Bout damn time! I was getting bored with Preseason ball. If I was wide awake, I'd put on some Preseason ball and went:sleep:
DW, what is with this 3rd person posting you've adopted? LMAO

I just saw that new Oreos DSRL commercial with Peyton, Eli, and the Williams sisters. Freakin' hilarious!
Good start for the Giants...Burris in Eli look like they're playing catch.

If he didn't have that huge safety net named Burress, he'd be in trouble.

I agree. He dodged about 3 Pick 6s because of drops by the Redskins D

Hmm, this is what your graduate degree gets us?
Well I was really impressed on the 1st half but that was a lousy 2nd half....
I just hope Mathias K is ok cause that is the last thing we need is to lose another key player..

The game as a whole was nasty, but it was the first game of the year, the skins were roughing it and even the refs were F'ing up.
We suck for letting them hang around, that will not get it done.
Still the most important thing is Kiwi, then the W.

Was a good play, but wasn't he angled sideways coming off a block? Wasn't like they were going at each other, Clinton just took extreme advantage of the situation.

The Portis hit was nowhere near the Richter scaled hit that Jacob's put on Landry....
Hell Landry is still trying to count to 5 after that hit...
I forgot to mention a **** YOU to Chris Samuels for his dirty tackling of Kiwi on a meaningless play. (I heard Kiwi is fine, I hope I heard right!)

Damn NFL Network must've had that play ready on TiVo:lol:
haha, I'd expect you two Giants fans not to give that any respect. The bottom line is a little running back put Kiwanuka on his *** and it was a pretty straight up hit. Jacobs running over Landry was good too but that could happen anytime when a safety is standing still and the running back is running right toward him.

He stepped up to make that tackle son. He got mowed down for not getting low. As the ESPN guys say: LaRon Landry got "JACKED UP". I love the CP hit too. Flat out laid him out but it wasn't better than what Jacobs did....

Show me video.
I said it was a good play and I gave my take on it. I only saw it the once last night so show me it again. I'll give game if it was as good as you guys say.
I didn't show you respect trips, not the play. Get it right. Portis is a beast, he always gets respect. He got his even when the rest of the offense was lacking.
Edit - I can't find any videos of it. I DVR'd the game, so I will check it out tonight to confirm my take on it.
Yeah, I couldn't find a video on it neither. Let me know what you think.

I already told you. I saw it. I know he layed him out, I remember Portis standing over him like a monster. I also remember Kiwi coming off an engaged block. That is how I remember it, as I said, good, not great... didn't even matter to the play. Respect questioned...
I'm real. I don't live a 24/7 BS **** talking lifestyle. :)
I'll be back after watching it again.

I never said it wasn't impressive....it was. I just find it more impressive for a 220lb RB to drop a big DE/OLB than a large RB running over a small defensive back. That's all I'm saying.

He should win one this year, he should have won one the last 2 years. Dallas is to the Giants what Oakland is to Denver, so of course we will kick them while they are down until they win.

Kiwanuka Accuses Samuels With That "Dirty" Play
Associated Press
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Giants (http://www.nfl.com/teams/newyorkgiants/profile?team=NYG) defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka (http://www.nfl.com/players/mathiaskiwanuka/profile?id=KIW059326) alleged on Friday that Washington Redskins (http://www.nfl.com/teams/washingtonredskins/profile?team=WAS) tackle Chris Samuels made a dirty play when he fell on the back of his ankle after being beaten on a pass rush on the final play of the NFL season opener.
http://www.nfl.com/static/content/public/image/getty/headshot/K/I/W/KIW059326.jpg Mathias Kiwanuka (http://www.nfl.com/players/mathiaskiwanuka/profile?id=KIW059326), DE
New York Giants (http://www.nfl.com/teams/profile?team=NYG)
Height: 6-5 Weight: 265
Age: 25
College: Boston College
Experience: 3
Kiwanuka hurt his left ankle on the play. X-rays were negative, but the ankle was still sore on Friday, and so was Kiwanuka.
Replays showed that Kiwanuka beat Samuel to the outside on a pass rush and started moving toward Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell (http://www.nfl.com/players/jasoncampbell/profile?id=CAM375235) in the waning seconds of the Giants' 16-7 victory.
Samuels quickly turned and made a low lunging tackle, wrapping his arms around Kiwanuka's legs. His upper torso pinned Kiwanuka's left ankle.
"Honestly, I thought it was a dirty play," Kiwanuka said. "There's no question about it. He was definitely beat and instead of recovering or giving up, I don't know how many options you had, but I just don't think there is any place for that in the NFL."
Samuels said he wasn't trying to hurt anyone.
"On that particular play I was just trying to protect my quarterback," Samuels said through a Redskins spokesman. "It was never my intention to go out there and injure another player."
Replays also showed Samuels wave his arms in a move that suggested that he was upset after the play. He stood over Kiwanuka as Giants trainers came on the field.
"Samuels, I spoke to him right after and he said it wasn't intentional and I will just leave that at that," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said Friday.
Kiwanuka was upset, especially after missing the final six games of last season with a broken lower leg that also caused ligament damage to his ankle.
"I don't think there is any place for that in professional football," he said.
Kiwanuka also wasn't buying the idea that Samuels was trying to protect his quarterback.

New York Giants think Redskins OT Samuels' play was dirty
by Mike Garafolo (mgarafolo@starledger.com)/The Star-Ledger Friday September 05, 2008, 3:06 PM
http://blog.nj.com/giants_impact/2008/09/medium_kiwanuka-hurt.jpgAndrew Mills (amills@starledger.com)/ The Star-LedgerMatthias Kiwanuka after the last play of the game Thursday.
The play on which Redskins LT Chris Samuels dragged down DE Mathias Kiwanuka and made the Giants see their season flashing before their eyes was dirty, according to several Giants players who saw it on film Friday. Namely, Kiwanuka.
"Honestly, I thought it was a dirty play," Kiwanuka said. "There's no question about it, he was definitely beat. Instead of recovering or giving up or whatever options you have ... I don't think there's any place for that in the NFL."
Kiwanuka said he didn't do any tests after the X-rays Thursday night and that he'll be 100 percent for the Rams in nine days.
"It shouldn't have happened, but it happened," LB Antonio Pierce said of the play. "Our guy is okay, he's healthy. That's all that matters right now. ... It's smart on (Samuels') behalf. No doubt. If David Diehl or Kareem (McKenzie) was in that position, I'd expect them to do the same thing. They could go about it a different way, maybe. I wouldn't want them to try to almost injure a guy and have him out for a couple of weeks. From that standpoint, that's disappointing, but I would expect our guys to protect Eli."
Added coach Tom Coughlin, "I spoke to (Samuels) after and he said, 'That wasn't intentional.'"
One note: K Lawrence Tynes kicked Friday and said he's feeling better. Perhaps he'll be ready to go for St. Louis.
This sort of got lost during opening gameday, but this was big news for my boys... 8)

Giants signed WR Plaxico Burress to a five-year, $35 million contract. He'll make $11 million in 2008.
Burress' old deal, which was good through 2010, was torn up. Plax is 31 and may not make it to the end of this new contract, but he's come into his own in the past three seasons with 29 TDs and 3,227 yards (15.4 YPC) over that span. Burress isn't force fed targets in the Giants' attack, but should remain a high-scoring, high-yardage wideout for at least 2-3 more seasons. Sep. 4 - 4:29 pm et

The Giants played well and Burress one of the best recievers out there but, lets be serious the redskins suck lol, when you face a contender, the Giants will truly be tested.

I appreciate you insightful input, but...
The Giants didn't really play that well overall. They could have easily lost that game had the Skins had any late game offense. There was a lot of good with a lot of bad. They simply won a game they should have won.

sorry Blu Ray... but your track record in this thread requires me to ingore any and all advice you offer...
Nah. They are deciding to run the ball more this year, but that only opens up the passing game with Kitna and Johnson in my eyes. That's their stategy.
By the way, did anyone here what Tatum Bell did this week? The Lions cut him because they has just signed Rudi Johnson (which I like by the way). Rudi was talking to either Millen or Marinelli in an office. When Rudi went to get him bags, they were gone. They are went to check the security cameras, and guess who it was! None other than Tatum Bell! He stole Rudi Johnson's bag with underwear, credit cards, money, shirts, and other stuff, drove over to his girlfreind's house and gave it to her. She then said that she hadn't seen him in over a month!
Tatum Bell. You PHAIL.
Edit: Daywalker, then I guess I don't have any reason to talk to you then. :/
Daywalker, what's this jibberish you were saying about Scheffler. I picked him in another league and now find out he's not even the starting TE? WTF?
I have a question - how do you all think Jonathon Steward from the Carolina Panthers will do this year? I am thinking about picking him up.

I didn't say all that NY. We will have a big year, we will be in the playoffs.
I agree with Lethal except for the trend part. What happened last year was once in a lifetime. The best teams all year are the ones battling for the Lombardi trophy.

relax-
Denver has 3 TEs on their roster.
Graham is a superb blocker is good hands.
Schffeler has great hands, but is not the best blocker...
forgot the other guy... Nate something... is a hybrid of Schffler and Graham... and will likely only be used in short yardage/goaline situations.
Look for Scheffler to lineup in the slot a lot this season...
So what are you guys picks for tomorrow? Here's mines:
Detroit @ Atlanta - DET
Seattle @ Buffalo - SEA
New York (J) @ Miami - NY
Kansas City @ New England -
Tampa Bay @ New Orleans - TB, I just have this feeling...
St.Louis @ Philly - PHI
Houston @ Pittsburgh - PIT
Jacksonville @ Tennesse - JAC
Cinn @ Baltimore - BAL
Carolina @ San Diego - SD
Arizona @ San Fransisco - ARI
Dallas @ Cleveland - CLE (seriously)
Chicago @ Indianapolis - IND
Minnesota @ Green Bay - MINN
Denver @ Oakland - DEN

Detroit @ Atlanta - DET Should be boring. Kevin Smith 90+ yards
Seattle @ Buffalo - Buffalo Don't sleep. Great Defense and O-Line
New York (J) @ Miami - NY #4 makes a statement in this game
Kansas City @ New England - NE and if not, no playoffs for NE:snicker
Tampa Bay @ New Orleans - NO. Should be close though
St.Louis @ Philly - PHI I smell a rout
Houston @ Pittsburgh - PIT Should be close. Houston's getting better
Jacksonville @ Tennesse - JAX Jaguars are more complete all around
Cinn @ Baltimore - BAL Cinci got too many questions on Defense
Carolina @ San Diego - SD LT might struggle. Might not
Arizona @ San Fransisco - ARI Close game last year, same this year
Dallas @ Cleveland - Dal Beleive me, I want Cle to win but nah
Chicago @ Indianapolis - IND. Devin Hester still breaks 1 though
Minnesota @ Green Bay - GB Game of the week to me.

 This one isn't based on bias though. Look at how far Minnesota has come after the Love Boat scandal. They have 3 Pro Bowl D-Linemen and a 2 Headed monster at running back. Green Bay has some of the most talented young players. They are a solid team all around even with A-Rod @ QB. He has been discredited and I know he will have something to prove. All of that = quality football. And it's monday night.
Btw Miami: WTF's up with that sig?? It scares me........

You don't want to get a win because of an injury, that how it shouldn't happen. You don't want to win because the other team lost it's best players to injury in real or fantasy football.
Is Croyle out for the year with a shoulder separation? Didn't think so.

It is unfortunate that someone the caliber of Brady could be out for the season. All I am saying is that it is a part of the game and significant injuries happen to football players all the time. He can come back from a knee injury unlike the guys that break their necks playing this game.
edit: And I could only hope that Croyle is out for the year.
I don't know if I'm off topic but I just wanted to say that, I'm with the Buffalo Bills because I used to study at UB and it happened to be at the time that they ruled (at least at the AFC) when they were 4 times champions. When we had Jim Kelly as a quarterback and our hated rival was the Dolphins with Dan Marino.
Anyways that was what I wanted to say. (Oh and I'm glad that they won today)
Should be an interesting year to say the least.

Agreed. I watched that Dallas game. Romo had and I quote "The most time in the pocket he's gonna have all season". You don't get that much time against a Jim Johnson Defense. Besides that, Cleveland hasn't been a defensive team in years. Plus they traded their best CB. Doesn't take much to know that won't make you any better of a defensive team.

LOL @ This entire post. The Cleveland Browns run a base 3-4 defense. They don't even play 2 defensive tackles. Thus the notion you have of them rebuilding the line with two "stout" defensive tackles is laughable at best.
Second of all, the defensive tackle they did bring in (Shaun Rogers) is infamous for playing half-assed the majority of the time.
Also -- Who is the second stout defensive tackle? I hope you're not talking about Robaire Smith. The guy can't even stay on one team, let alone have consistently average seasons. He's mediocre at best.
The Rams defensive line is exponentially better than the Browns and the Eagles man-handled them all game. The Rams defense is head and shoulders better than the Browns. To even argue otherwise is going to make you look beyond ignorant to the sport of football in all honesty.
The fact the Cowboys could only score 28 points is disappointing on its own. Especially considering the fact they field what, 7-8 pro bowlers (most undeserving) on the offensive side of the ball?

How many more excuses are you going to come up with? It seems every time Manning plays like a bum, you're here making excuses for the entire organization, including last year when they lost in the playoffs. Just man up and admit Manning got shut down by the Bears defense.
Although the Patriots may have lost Brady, which obviously was the key leader of the team, I think it will help them out how everyone is just dismissing them now. I am not saying Cassel or even Simms (if he gets signed) is going to be the next Brady but I have to look at it from a positive angle and think that the rest of the team is there and they still have a ton of talent.

The Rams were almost in the top 20 defenses last year (21st). That makes their defense significantly better than the Browns (30th). The Eagles put up 38 WITHOUT their TWO starting WRs. 414 yards passing with Wide Receivers playing 3, 4, 5, 6 spots on the Depth Chart, lol. 3 of them reaching 100+ yards.
That's manhandling.

CHAD BROWN ON GETTING CUT (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/09/08/chad-brown-on-getting-cut/)
Posted by Mike Florio on September 8, 2008, 11:11 a.m. EDT
[Editor’s note: NFL (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/09/08/chad-brown-on-getting-cut/#) veteran Chad Brown, a three-time Pro Bowler who played 15 seasons for the Steelers, Seahawks, and Patriors, offers up his own experiences on what it’s like to be released by an NFL team.]
At the Patriots team facility there is one entrance for players. Just inside, there’s a small group of chairs and side tables. Almost every day during training camp, a scouting assistant sits in one of those chairs.
That scouting assistant’s job is to wait there and grab whatever player V.P. of player personnel Scott Pioli or coach Bill Belichick wants to talk to.
Most of the time the meeting that takes place is about that player’s release. Almost every team in the league has a similar setup. For 13 years, I walked past that guy almost without a second thought. Sometimes, I wondered who was getting the bad news that day. But, most of the time, I just headed into the locker room and started to get ready for my day.
As I went forward in football (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/09/08/chad-brown-on-getting-cut/#) from Pop Warner to high school to college then into the NFL, I sometimes thought about the guys who didn’t make the next step in football with me. Football is so different than other sports in the respect that, your last play is really your last play. The last time you strap on the pads is the last time you strap on those pads for the rest of your life.
Any ex-high school basketball player can hit the local YMCA and, even at 50 years old, he can get a game. I play in a rec softball league, and most teams have one or two ex-minor league or college players who love to hear the crack of the bat (or run over Bette Midler (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/09/08/chad-brown-on-getting-cut/#) at home plate). Football is different because there aren’t rec leagues or pick up games at the park. Once you’re done, you are done. FOREVER! I often wondered about my high school friends who loved the game just as I did. Did they know after that last game that that was it for them? Did they have any idea that they would never play again? If they had realized it, would they have done something different? Played harder? Lifted more weights? Taken in a little more of the sights, the lights, the smells, the glory and privilege of playing this game?
One day, as I walked in the door that day, I could see the scout looking at me. Then I see him getting up out of his chair to talk to me! Oh sh*t! I’m still trying to process my thoughts when he says, “Chad, Scott and Bill need to see you”.
“Huh?” I say.
“Scott and Bill need to see you upstairs in Scott’s office.”
Wow, I thought, he was waiting for me. For 13 years I walked past this guy, and now its my turn.
“Uh, OK,” I mumble and head upstairs. (Well, actually, I took the elevator. At the Patriots facility, only Mr. Kraft uses the elevator. I thought, if I’m getting cut, damnit, I’m not taking the stairs. That’s right, Mr. Kraft, I took your elevator!)
“Sit down, Chad”, Scott says. I’m still thinking this can’t be real, can it? From All Pro teams and Pro Bowls and team MVPs to this?
“We need to release you”, Bill said in a very calm voice. I really don’t remember much of what was said after that. You sit and listen, then you walk out and wonder what just happened, and what do I do next? I’ve seen guys after being released head down to clean out their lockers and walk out with all their stuff in, get this, a garbage bag. I never understood how that felt before. Well, now I know. You feel like the stuff in that green bag. Very unwanted. Very disposable.
As a top-level player for most of my career, I never understood how the “other side” lived. After being cut, I felt their pain. You wonder if you will get the chance to play again. Was that preseason game my last one? Was that missed tackle my last play? Will I strap the pads on again? Before the “cut” my love of the game was selfish. It was based on how well I played, not on how well my team played; I’ve walked out of the locker room after a 35-7 win pissed because I didn’t get a sack or I didn’t have 10 tackles.
“Getting cut” will snap you out of that real quick. After being cut you’re just happy to have a job.
“Getting cut” also reminds you of just how special the game is. What an awesome privilege it is to play the great game of football. To have the chance to make 65,000 fans jump out of their seats, to hear the roar of the crowd after a big play, or to see fans wearing your jersey. Somehow getting cut makes all that even more special. It’s too bad that you can’t have the perspective when you are a young player, so you could really savor each moment of the great game of football.
I think only after “getting cut” and having your football life flash in front of your eyes do you really understand how lucky you were to play this great game of football, the amazing American pastime, at its highest level.
It's disturbing that anyone would cheer an injury to a player. Sure they get paid enormous amounts of money but they risk their bodies each week for our entertainment. Sure it's nice to have millions of dollars but is it worth having knee replacements at 45? Hip replacements? Being unable to play around with your grandkids?

Also, most players aren't crippled at 45 or later, but RB's do give up their knees for the game. So do catchers in baseball when it comes down to it.

I would say that most NFL players have chronic joint problems by the age of 45. At least those that played 5 or more years. They have the equivalent of arthritis on steroids. I didn't say they were crippled but their joints are shot, they live with pain. Think about these guys carrying around 300+ pounds. I don't care who you are, you're going to have joint problems prematurely carrying that much weight around. Let alone the rigors of being a professional athlete and training constantly.

Manning under and over threw a ton of receivers last night, including the 4th down to end the game. He played poorly in comparison to Manning standards. Also, if you think someone of Manning's caliber can't go without practicing during the pre-season and still maintain his talent level, you're mistaken.
Guys like Manning are born gifted with a natural ability to be great in their respective sports. To them, it's like riding a bike.
Manning played poorly and was thrown off guard by a Chicago defense that stepped their game up immensely in comparison to what people expected. The Colts were -500 favorites to win the game on the money line, so obviously not even Vegas felt it would be close.

It's ridiculous to think that him not playing in pre-season or practice didn't have any effect on last nights game.
It was obviously a combination of Peyton being rusty and Chicago playing a great defensive game.
It was a close game. It was anyone's up until the end. Some time in the pre-season getting back into it could have been the difference. If you disagree with that possibility, you're wrong.

While Manning was hurt, Chicago was building their defense up both with physical and mental reps. You can't miss time in the game, strap up the pads, and play at pro bowl level at the QB position. It also doesn't help when you're missing a TE who can stretch the field. All in all, they still lost. It's week 1. You won't be undefeated but that doesn't mean you won't make playoffs
It's a sad day for Patriots fans, but what hurts us will united us. Adversity will not stop us from obtaining what we want, and what we want is respect for the team and the Lombardi trophy.
I know I am going to be laughed at for saying that but I am going to stick to my team and still believe that they can do it.

The only thing funny about that is the belief that the Patriots don't have respect. Are you kidding me? They are amongst the greatest teams of all time with their recent run. If anyone says they don't respect the Pats they're either ******ed or lying. Spygate was just something all of us could use to try and knock the Pats down a few notches. So this weeks news: Merriman takes season ending surgery like he should've done weeks ago.
To me bigger news:
49ers place Smith on injured reserve with broken bone in shoulder
Associated Press
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The San Francisco 49ers (http://www.nfl.com/teams/sanfrancisco49ers/profile?team=SF) put quarterback Alex Smith on injured reserve on Wednesday with a broken bone in his right shoulder, probably ending the former No. 1 draft pick's disappointing four-year career with the club.
Smith, the top pick in the 2005 NFL Draft (http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/fulldraft?season=2005&round=round1), had surgery on his shoulder in December to repair three torn ligaments, the product of a separated shoulder from a game in late September 2007. He appeared to be at full strength in training camp, but experienced severe pain in his shoulder last Friday while making a long throw during practice.
Dr. James Andrews, who performed Smith's last surgery, confirmed the team's diagnosis of a broken bone in Smith's shoulder, though the quarterback and the team still don't know how it happened. Smith already was struggling with new offensive coordinator Mike Martz's system, losing his starting job to journeyman J.T. O'Sullivan (http://www.nfl.com/players/j.t.o%27sullivan/profile?id=OSU394627) during the preseason.
Smith likely will require more surgery, coach Mike Nolan said. The 49ers signed quarterback Jamie Martin, a veteran of Martz's system, to back up O'Sullivan and Shaun Hill (http://www.nfl.com/players/shaunhill/profile?id=HIL586565).
The 49ers almost certainly will release Smith before next season, because general manager Scot McCloughan said last week the club can't risk paying $9 million in base salary to a backup quarterback in 2009.
Smith passed for 4,679 yards with 31 interceptions and 19 touchdowns in his first three seasons with the 49ers, who selected the former Utah star with the first draft pick of Nolan's regime. Smith has never found a consistent NFL groove while playing for four offensive coordinators in four seasons and throwing to one of the league's worst collections of receivers.
San Francisco's offense finished last in the NFL in 2005 and 2007. Smith received a share of the blame even though he played only part of his rookie season and missed most of 10 games last year. In 2006, his only full season as a starter, Smith posted respectable numbers for offensive coordinator Norv Turner while the 49ers went 7-9.
Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press
Big news because he's been extremely unsuccessful. Most of it being because of the lack of talent around him (besides Vernon Davis) and the fact that he had 4 different Offensive Coordinators in his 4 years there. Indeed he hasn't done his part but what do you expect when you put a young QB in a predictament like this? He most likely won't be a starter next year so expect him to be released or traded early on.

QBs Young & Leinart: From can't miss to can't figure

• E-mail
Thirty-two months ago, they were on top of the football world. It's hard to say who has fallen farther, Matt Leinart or Vince Young.
They were the quarterbacks in the spotlight of the greatest BCS championship game ever played. USC's Leinart was outstanding. Texas' Young was even better.
I couldn't imagine how either one could miss as an NFL quarterback.
Leinart seemed to have a great arm and an uncanny ability to make plays at the biggest moments. It was speculated that he would have been the No. 1 pick in the 2005 draft had he not chosen to stay for his senior year.
There were always concerns about Young's throwing motion, and the offense he ran at Texas was anything but pro style. But his ability to lead was undeniable.
I figured – and so did many scouts – that he had to come into the NFL with at least as much skill as Randall Cunningham had coming out of Nevada-Las Vegas. And Cunningham managed a pretty decent 16-year career that included being named All-Pro four times.
And yet here we are a week into their third NFL season. Leinart can't get on the field in Arizona. And Titans fans want Young off the field in Tennessee.
Young's career is one of the most difficult to analyze of any player I have seen. If it's all about winning at the quarterback position, then Young is fine. In fact, he's better than fine. He's outstanding.
Young's first start for Tennessee came when the team was 0-3 in 2006. He led them to an 8-8 record to earn Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. He led them to the playoffs in 2007.
In Sunday's opener, in spite of two interceptions and a late knee injury, Young led the Titans to victory once again.
But the numbers just keep getting worse. And if quarterbacking in the NFL is all about passer rating, then Young just can't play.
His numbers since coming into the league are worse than that of San Francisco's Alex Smith, whose career with the 49ers appears to be over. They are worse than "Train" Rex Grossman's in Chicago. They are worse than Joey Harrington's, and he can't find work in a league that employs 96 quarterbacks.
So how do you weigh the tangibles against the intangibles in Young's case? And what would his numbers look like if he were a Cowboy, throwing the ball to Terrell Owens and Jason Witten and handing off to Marion Barber instead of throwing the ball to Bo Scaife and Justin Gage and handing it off to LenDale White?
I'm not suggesting his numbers would match Tony Romo's. But every quarterback, to some extent, succeeds or fails because of his supporting cast, and Tennessee has not bothered to surround Young with top-level talent.
I still think the Titans need to find a way to get behind him and return him to the lineup whenever his injury heals. In Young's case, with so much unrefined skill, the jury is still out.
The same is true with Leinart. How do you make a judgment on a player with 15 NFL starts in two seasons? It takes a much larger body of work than that to be declared a bust.
Most people expected Leinart to emerge from the preseason as the Cardinals' starting quarterback. A three-interception game, in just 12 attempts, against Oakland pretty much handed the job back to veteran Kurt Warner.
Warner's injury history suggests Leinart's time will come during the 2008 season. But how long will the opportunity last?
Arizona has done a better job than Tennessee of supplying Leinart with talent. The Cardinals just won't let him use it.
One of the problems is that Leinart was drafted by coaches no longer in Arizona. Maybe he's just not Ken Whisenhunt's guy.
But with the financial investment that both teams have made in their quarterbacks, the Cardinals and the Titans have to want these two to succeed.
For them to be failing this deep into their pro careers is a stunning development. And it may have as much to do with organizations failing them as the other way around.
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/columnists/tcowlishaw/stories/091108dnspocowlishaw.18ab64e.html
Both players were expected to be further along at this point in there career. Matt still can't grasp the NFL style offense and Vince being booed by angry fans for poor play.

I know he was in the draft the year before that but you can classify him as a young QB. Doesn't have more starts than any of them. I do believe in Cutler. Very good young guy w/ a cannon arm. Keep him on his feet and expect good numbers. Rodgers has enough young talent on offense. Expect him to grow into that position much easier.

Owens says he got 'too big' for McNabb
Associated Press
IRVING, Texas -- Terrell Owens (http://www.nfl.com/players/terrellowens/profile?id=OWE755129) vividly recalls the fans chanting his name and the cheers he used to hear in Philadelphia -- the ones he feels drove a wedge between himself and Donovan McNabb (http://www.nfl.com/players/donovanmcnabb/profile?id=MCN017517).
Owens once thought he was going to have the kind of relationship with McNabb in Philadelphia that he has since developed with Tony Romo (http://www.nfl.com/players/tonyromo/profile?id=ROM787981) in Dallas. The pair are good friends and the NFL's top-scoring quarterback-receiver tandem with 26 touchdowns since 2006.
Carucci's rankings
The Cowboys looked the part of a Super Bowl contender in Week 1. While Dallas is rewarded with the No. 1 spot in this week's rankings, the Patriots aren't so fortunate. More ... (http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d80aabf38&template=without-video&confirm=true)
"The fans and just the excitement of me coming there and being there, it became too overwhelming for Donovan," Owens said Thursday. "I think at one point in time, I will say that we had a good relationship. I think I got too big for Philly, too big for him. I just feel like in a sense that he felt like I was just probably getting too much attention."
The Eagles kicked Owens off their team during the 2005 season -- a year after they went to the Super Bowl -- after a series of infractions, including repeated criticism of McNabb and the organization.
"I feel strong about my position and what happened in Philly, and I really don't feel like it was my fault," Owens said.
Dallas' home opener against Philadelphia on Monday night will be the fifth time Owens faces the Eagles.
Each time the NFC East rivals are getting ready to play, it seems to revive the history between T.O. and McNabb, at least from the receiver's perspective.
On a conference call with Cowboys media Thursday, McNabb did his best to avoid the subject of their relationship.
"We had great times here. ... It's unfortunate the way things ended up," McNabb said. "But he's happy where he's at and I'm happy where I'm at."
Asked if Owens was a changed man, McNabb said he didn't know. "I'm just a guy on the outside looking in," he said.
Owens has had contact recently with former Eagles teammates Lito Sheppard (http://www.nfl.com/players/litosheppard/profile?id=SHE556636), who "called and asked me for a few more tickets," and receiver Greg Lewis. But not McNabb.
"No, I haven't talked to Donovan," T.O. said. "It's been a while."
But at one point in Philadelphia, the relationship between T.O. and McNabb was so good that they used to get together at Owens' house to watch all the Monday Night Football games.
"He was the bartender or I was the bartender. We gave ourselves some alias names and we had a lot of fun," Owens said. "We had a lot of teammates come over and enjoy that. It was a situation where things didn't work out in Philly and now I'm here."
This time, they will be on opposite sides of a drama for everybody else to watch.
Eagles coach Andy Reid told Cowboys reporters Thursday that he was happy that things worked out for Owens, and wishes the receiver well even though they were in the same division.
"He still wishes I was there. Don't let him sell you those lines," Owens said, adding that he had a good relationship with the coach. "By far, Andy is one of the better coaches I have had. Only thing I didn't like was he didn't let me wear my tights. Other than that, we were good."
McNabb's best statistical season (3,875 passing yards and 31 touchdowns) came in 2004, when he was throwing passes to Owens and the Eagles made it to the Super Bowl, which Owens played in after coming back from a broken bone in his leg.
But Owens publicly demanded a new contract just one year into a seven-year, $48.97 million deal and feuded with McNabb.
Money hasn't been an issue for Owens in Dallas, where he initially got a $25 million, three-year deal. This would have been his final season under that original deal, but this summer the 34-year-old receiver got a three-year extension worth about $27 million through the 2011 season.
"I've always just wanted my market value," Owens said. "I think I've always kind of been underpaid -- up until now.
"Hey, I'm happy," Owens said before turning and giving an extended and exaggerated posed smile.
With the money and his quarterback in Dallas.

So how about Brodie Croyle talk?
Oh wait, don't know much about him:-( sorry
How about that Greg Jennings?
We should actually be able to beat the Raiders since Croyle is hurt.

I can guarantee you he will be a Dolphin by half way through the season. The Dolphins have been constantly thinking of deals that would be great to aquire Boldin. Not one of those offers have been offered to the Cardinals yet. With what Miami has to offer, the Cards will indeed trade him to Miami.

Yes, we can afford him easily. And stop running you're mouth with negative things about Miami.

Therapists are sworn to secrecy. If he/she really told, they should be fired. Either way I can't help but feel concerned for him. This is like the 2nd time i've heard a report like this and you gotta think he really is emotionally unstable. He hasn't panned out as a QB yet and it's been what? 3-4 years? Maybe he should step away from the game if he's this close to killing himself. In other news:
I'm thinking of posting the weekly schedule for predictions on both NFL games and Fantasy games. Good idea or no?

Female Fans Out For Season With Tom Brady's Knee Injury
FOXBOROUGH, MA—More than 90 percent of female football fans were lost for the season on Sunday when New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady suffered a left knee injury that will require extensive treatment. The Patriots announced Monday that Brady, the 2007 NFL Most Valuable Player and arguably the NFL's most handsome man, will be placed on injured reserve, where despite being no less attractive than before his injury, he will only be partially visible for the rest of the 2008-2009 season.
Enlarge Image http://www.theonion.com/content/files/images/TS-Brady-R.article.jpg (http://javascript%3Cb%3E%3C/b%3E:void%280%29;)
Bill Belichick held a press conference Tuesday confirming that Brady will have surgery, ending his 128-game combined starting-and-high-visibility streak, the third longest for a quarterback and the longest ever for a quarterback heartthrob.
Brady left Sunday's game against Kansas City after suffering an ugly anterior cruciate ligament tear in his incredibly handsome left knee after being hit by merely average-looking Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard.
"We feel badly for the nation's women about the injury," Belichick said. "And for Tom, of course. You hate to see anyone with that kind of masculine yet boyish appeal go down. No one has worked harder or done more for this team's female fan base than Tom has, and we expect him to set his rugged, chiseled jaw, keep his twinkling blue eyes on the prize, and be ready to get back on the field and in front of the cameras by next year."
Matt Cassel, who analysts say looked "consistent and confident" while guiding New England to its 20th straight regular-season win after Brady was hurt and "okay but not remarkable" in jeans and a polo shirt after the game, will start Sunday at the New York Jets, although there are doubts Cassel can win as many games and women as Brady.
"Well, as far as my role on this team goes, I'm not trying to be Tom Brady. I'm just trying to be Matt," Cassel said when subbing for Brady on his regular weekly radio show. "I mean, I have to just be myself, or else the ladies will sense I'm faking it, and in the end, that'll make it worse. I just hope there's one special fan group out there for me."
Cassel has been a second fiddle his entire football career, even in college at Southern California, where he was backup and wingman to lovable tousle-headed manchild Matt Leinart.
But football and demographics analysts agree that Brady's injury surely changes the rugged, weatherbeaten complexion of the entire NFL, where the Patriots, winners of three Super Bowls since 2001 with Brady as their quarterback and spokesmodel, were the strong female-fan favorite. However, Belichick denied the team reached out to any other more experienced or handsome quarterbacks.
Although losing Brady's strong arm and sculpted face will not be easy for the Patriots, the impact of his loss is expected to be felt around the NFL, where Brady has been the leading performer both on and off the field for the last several seasons. League commissioner Roger Goodell called an emergency owner's meeting Monday in which attendees discussed measures designed to compensate for Brady's loss, such as giving poise and diction lessons to Peyton or Eli Manning, getting Brett Favre a new wardrobe and a decent haircut, or teaching Ben Affleck how to play football.
Unfortunately for the NFL, Brady's loss seems to have affected more than just the Patriots and women. Many Boston-area fans of both genders, claiming that the team isn't worth watching without Brady, have concentrated their attention on the waning and somewhat disheveled Red Sox season or the attractive upcoming Celtics' NBA title defense. The sports media has likewise gone into shock, with columnist Bill Simmons saying he will no longer watch football this season, Sports Illustrated canceling large Brady-themed sections of this years' upcoming swimsuit issue, and NBC Football Night In America analyst Cris Collinsworth bursting into tears and collapsing into Peter King's arms upon receiving the news.
"No one else in football has Brady's unique talents—the physical gifts of build, height, arms, cheekbones, piercingly sultry field vision, the combination of arm strength and accuracy with a sense of tenderness, the combination of smirk and pout—along with the intangibles and the ability to look good in everything," said Tom Chiarella, who scouted and evaluated Brady for the September issue of Esquire. "It's impossible to estimate the impact of his loss, but it will almost certainly mean the loss of most female fans, many Boston-area fans, fair-weather fans, and the majority of mainstream media fans. The NFL is really looking at a worst-case scenario here, one that it never wanted to happen: A football season that's only watched by actual football fans."

To be honest, it's a really close call. The only reason I ended up picking SD is because of LT. I wouldn't be shocked though if the Broncos won. This will probably be the game of the week.

Haha, I bet you're opinion changed now. They impressed me. I watched the whole game, and for them to come back after Peyton getting sacked numerous times, plus throwing 2 INT's had me in shock. Congrats Colts.

They still worry me. Never should have been down 0-15 in the first place. But Peyton unsheathed his GIGANTIC Ownage sword in the 2nd half and started slicin the Vikes up. The fella is an artist. Every other team should be red in the face with envy that #18 doesn't play for them.
Winning games like this is like free drugs.
