Hey! Enough with teasing the Broncos! Tease both the Browns and the Benglas for putting up such a horrid game!

What an embarassment by the Broncos. I'm sorry, but losing - sorry, getting killed by the 3-0 Chiefs is pretty bad. We'll see how the next few weeks turn into with the Broncos.
Hey, pctrips, congrats for the upset! Now you know how us Dolphin fans felt last week when we destroyed and upset the Patriots!
Or tease the Bills for letting St. Louis get more touchdowns than the Broncos!

pctrips- your rookie Dbs didn't do anything... so let's not get overly excited.
4 TOs and we were one muffed onside kick away from winning the game...
that said... we all knew there would be a day when the offense sputtered and the Broncos would lose... it came.
Now- I have one final proposal:
Make fun of me until the Cowboys lose- then lets all get of Sith.
I know we all hate the cowboys much mroe than you hate the Broncos...

You better believe that I'm going to run my mouth BIG time if the Cowboys lose. I hate the Cowboys as much as I hate the Jets, and that's pretty bad considering I'm a Dolphins fan.
I respect the Broncos alot, and always have. I would love to see them in the SuperBowl.
He's so emotional he posted twice!
NFC East = Best division in Football. All 4 teams could make the playoffs (Though only 3 will).
It's much more embarrassing to see the Broncos lose to the Chiefs (hilarious).

Brandon Carr had a pick and a fumble recovery. Flowers scooped up the other ball you guys put on the turf too. I'd say that was pretty solid. They more than held their own against Cutler, Marshall, and Royal. The vaunted 38 points per game and we held them to half that. They did all this without benefit of a pass rush either. Give my scrubs some credit here.

Yeah, I said the 'skins always play the Cowboys tough....always. I never thought the Chiefs would win, but regardless of what Daywalker says the Chiefs beat the Donkeys. The Donkeys didn't beat themselves. We forced the turnovers with good defense and kept them out of the end zone and settling for field goals most of the time. I mean 195yds and 2td's by LJ was strong...but of course the Chiefs shouldn't get credit for that either.

When you are picked to be SB champs, staying close to an eleven point under dog is nothing to be proud of.
Why are you happy for scoring late against a prevent defense?

I expect a great game from the Raven's. I have them winning the game. I want to see how Flacco does under the spotlight on MNF, plus against a great defense like PIT's.
I do know that the Steeler's need their O-Line to step up tomorrow. It was embarassing on their part last week when the Eagles sacked Big Ben a numerous amount of times.

I know the defense will be great. They always are. I think our Pass D is kind of weak, despite the big names that we have. It's done a great job so far this season though. And nobody runs on the Ravens, ever. I just hope we can contain Roethlisberger passing wise. This will be a low scoring game, but it's gonna be a good one.
Pap3rThin
09-29-2008, 03:08
Honestly, if the O-Line of the Steeler's play like they did last weekend, expect the Raven's to blitz alot and put alot of pressure on Big Ben. I say the final score will be 17-7, Raven's win.

Big Ben ain't 100% and that O-Line is nowhere near stable right now from a pass blocking perspective. The Ravens are spectacular this year defensively though they only played 2 games. If Pittsburgh's blocking plays like last week, Ben may need to get pulled early.

Wow, I can't believe the things that TO says. He really needs to shut up and realize this is a team game, not a one person game.
Last year when they lost in the playoff's, he said they lost as a team and cried over the comments on Tony Romo, now when they lose at home when they were favored, he says they lost because he didn't get the ball enough, yet the number's say something different.

Typical TO but I'll say this: If the ball is thrown to you or the play is designed to get the ball in your hands, STFU and make plays! Don't complain about not getting the ball ESPECIALLY if you already have 7 catches. You don't make the offense. You're only a part so play your part

It's absolutely unforgivable when you refuse to run a QB Sneak inside the one like that on a 4th down. Especially when we don't have Westbrook in the backfield to jump up and over. Ridiculous.

They got no penetration through the D-Line. No reason to assume that would have worked.
McNabb is a big boy, why not roll out to the right with a pass/run option.

I hope you're kidding me. The entire portion in front of the center was clear on that 4th down stand pre-snap. All McNabb would have had to do was fall forward. They crashed down and in, not straight down.
Did you not just see on the replay how wide open the middle was for McNabb to sneak in?
It would have been 6.

Net yards... yards don't win or lose games, lol. They gave up 3 passing td's to Kyle Orton (career day), do not care if it was off turnovers or 80 yard drives. Chicago got key first downs when they needed them, hence the win. It was a cheese write-up off the top of my head in the key ways that I remembered the game. The point was/is, they lost.

No, your point was that the defense gave up a lot, when they didn't. Having 4 turnovers and holding the opponent to 250 yards is a solid defensive performance no matter how you split it. The defense did their job.

Don't ever quit your day job and try to become a football analyst. The Eagles went into an away game in one of the hardest cities to play in without their #1 playmaker on offense, their #1 statistical WR from last year, without their #1 offensive linemen in Shawn Andrews and played almost an entire quarter with their 3rd String RB who shouldn't even be on a football team.
The football season is 16 games long, nooblet, not four. If every loss was a "choke job" then Eli Manning would have around what? 40 choke jobs since he became the starter? Losses happen, this isn't college football.
Not everyone is lucky enough to play the Redskins, Rams, and Bengals during the first four weeks of the season.

All that said Dave you can't undermine the Redskins and the Bengals. Rams maybe. Carson Palmer came alive in that game bloody nose and all. The Bengals played great ball in that game. Eli rose to the occasion and did what an NFL QB gets paid to do: win games.
The Redskins are a solid team. Jason Campbell didn't play well because he was under duress the whole game. Philly game is over now and it doesn't matter who the hell choked. They now have a loss and that's all that can be said. Nobody choked. Despite the scoring, it was a defensive game

The Redskins are a solid team now, when they opened the season they were a complete mess. When you play a team along the schedule makes a huge difference. Patriots started 0-2 during their first Super Bowl run, those first two teams caught the Patriots at a fortunate time during their schedule where the team wasn't in sync. Same thing happened for the Giants in regards to the Redskins.
As for the Bengals. I am going to undermine them. Over the span of three games they have given a below average performance combined and have shown no signs of changing that around. Chad Johnson has poisoned that locker room throughout the offense and it is showing during this season. I'm not sure if you were watching the same game as I was, but Eli Manning gave a very "average" performance in this game, he wasn't anything special.
The Rams speak for themselves.

And I understand that but you called the Redskins sloppy in the 1st week am I right? So was Cinci. Cinci was terrible which is true but if you look at them this week, they started an unproven QB in Ryan Fitzpatrick who's wet behind the ears in this offense. This coming after the Bengals offense started coming together even if they allowed like 5 sacks.
Chad Johnson did nothing to poison anyone in that locker room. He faced more scrutiny than any other player there so he decided to shut up an let the Media do the talking. Much like TO, you can't take away the fact he's a solid player and it isn't his fault the ball isn't getting thrown his way. He isn't *****ing so why should he still get blamed for 100% of the Bengals' problems?
And btw throw the stats out the window. It doesn't amount to **** if you play good for 3 & 1/2 quarters and die down at the end. Eli played average? Yes. Did he come through in the clutch? Yes he did. Like I said he won the game. You'd feel the same way if McNabb QB sneaked it for the GW TD. McNabb did what he had to do to put his team in position to win. He threw a pick. Does that make he performance average?

Cincinnati was sloppy in week 2 as well. It's not like they just started bad. They've played poorly all year. If you don't think Chad Johnson's constant *****ing and off-the-field antics during this off-season didn't add tension to the locker room for this season, you're being a little naive.
McNabb threw the ball, but had Jackson ran his route as planned without being bumped due to his small stature, the pick wouldn't have happened. Even the announcers felt the interception was due to Jackson and not McNabb's throw.
And yes, McNabb put out an AVERAGE performance tonight whether he sneaks that ball in or not. He threw mid-50%'s and went 1-1. That's nothing to get hyped up about. In fact, it was arguably his worst performance of the season to an extent.

My Kansas City Chumps won their game today.
w00t w00t.

Does anyone know the state of Willie Parker's injury? Is he going to be back for week 5?
You are pathetic. Quit *****ing and whining because you are all defensive after a loss.
Yea, your right, they didn't choke the end of the game, they didn't in Dallas either.

Sorry to interrupt your conversation here, but:
Ravens v. Steelers tomorrow!
Let's go Ravens. It's gonna be a huge test for Flacco, but I expect the defense to show up and be dominant as always.
I predict Flacco will have a max of 5 pass attempts in the first half and that's only if they can't get any first downs running lol.
Oh and this is what happens when you don't have to cater to some prima donna receiver:

You must expect the man to put up ridiculous numbers every game. This is the NFL and those were the Chicago Bears. It doesn't matter if he would've thrown 3 TDs or completed 100% of his passes. he still lossed. I'm sure McNabb doesn't care either. Of course playing well is good but if you don't bring your team to a position to win, who cares what your stats are? He did just that and they faltered at the end.
McNabb did what he had to. Yea the INT happened. Tough ****. It happens. Chad Johnson was a disturbance before this season. Why the hell should it be a problem now? Chad had 0 support in that locker room in that situation. He's moved on. You don't get paid to listen to one guy whine and complain. They're professionals. It's their job to play.
We look at the game a different way. You're too concerned with percentages and all that other BS. You're talking disturbances? The biggest story this offseason was Brett Favre wanting to play for Green Bay. Aaron Rodgers ignored any of that crap and told them the truth. He can only handle his situation. He came out and played great. Last game he played was bad statistically but it wasn't in his power to come back.
That's all you got? You might wanna gloat a little more...you won't get to do it very often this year lol.

Rashard Mendenhall will start both games (vs. BAL, @ JAX) with Mewelde Moore playing on third downs. FB Carey Davis may be in the mix for goal-line carries, although if Mendenhall plays well it seems unlikely that he'd sub out in scoring position. FWP figures to return after Pittsburgh's Week 6 bye.

Breaking News!
Linehan out as head coach of Rams after 0-4 start
Associated Press
ST. LOUIS -- The winless St. Louis Rams (http://www.nfl.com/teams/st.louisrams/profile?team=STL) fired coach Scott Linehan on Monday, the morning after a fourth straight lopsided loss to start the season.
Defensive coordinator Jim Haslett, once the coach of the New Orleans Saints (http://www.nfl.com/teams/neworleanssaints/profile?team=NO), will replace Linehan on an interim basis. The Rams made the decision in the middle of the night and made it public several hours later.
"I have enormous respect for Scott Linehan as a person and believe under the right circumstances he will be regarded one day as a fine head coach," owner Chip Rosenbloom said in a release. "Unfortunately, the situation with the Rams as they exist today is no longer acceptable and we have to make a change."
Linehan had an overall 11-25 record in his first head coaching job. The Rams have been outscored 147-43 this season, and have allowed at least 30 points in seven straight games dating back to last year.
The move was made heading into the Rams' bye week and several hours after the Buffalo Bills (http://www.nfl.com/teams/buffalobills/profile?team=BUF) outscored them 25-0 in the second half of a 31-14 victory Sunday.
St. Louis has lost 17 of its last 20 games overall.
"This is not really the way you want to become a head coach, at somebody else's expense," Haslett said at a news conference to announce the move. "I feel for him and his family.
"We're going to do to the best we can to try to get this thing turned around."
The 0-4 start is the second straight for the Rams, who lost their first eight games last year en route to a 3-13 finish that landed them with the second pick in the draft.
A sign at Sunday's home game read: "Congress. Now bail out the Rams."
Linehan briefly addressed players Monday morning and then left Rams Park with his wife, Kristin, driving away in an SUV without speaking to reporters or even making eye contact.
"He just told us that we're winners," said rookie defensive end Chris Long (http://www.nfl.com/players/chrislong/profile?id=LON213256), Linehan's last first-round pick. "We're not winning right now, but there's winners in the room.
"He's going to do well, he's going to find a place where it's going right."
Haslett was fired as coach of the New Orleans after the 2005 season, and joined the Rams on Linehan's first staff in 2006. Rick Venturi, assistant head coach and linebackers coach, was elevated to defensive coordinator.
The Linehan era was mostly a dreary time for the franchise, especially on the heels of the wild highs and lows of predecessor Mike Martz, who helped the Rams win their lone Super Bowl after the 1999 season and led them to a second Super Bowl as coach in the 2001 season.
The Rams were 8-8 in 2006, Linehan's first season. The team rallied to win four of its last six games after Linehan turned over play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Greg Olson.
Numerous offensive line injuries, beginning with seven-time Pro Bowl tackle Orlando Pace (http://www.nfl.com/players/orlandopace/profile?id=PAC151180)'s season-ending shoulder injury in the opener, paved the way for last year's poor season. Linehan reclaimed play-calling duties that year after three games.
Linehan, 45, again relinquished the play-calling this season after replacing Olson with Al Saunders, among several moves in a staff overhaul. Other changes were made, with training camp moved to a remote location in Mequon, Wis., and Linehan attempting to inject more energy into a his low-key personality.
On Sunday, he benched quarterback Marc Bulger (http://www.nfl.com/players/marcbulger/profile?id=BUL162264), the highest-paid player in franchise history, and went with 38-year-old backup Trent Green (http://www.nfl.com/players/trentgreen/profile?id=GRE367521). That was one of six lineup changes for the Bills game.
None of it worked.
The Bulger benching also widened cracks in team unity. Running back Steven Jackson criticized Linehan on his weekly radio show, saying that was the wrong move, and there were reports Bulger no longer wanted to play for the coach.
Bulger left the Edward Jones Dome via the visitor's locker room after Sunday's game, a hat pulled down over his head, and hasn't spoken to reporters since he was benched last Tuesday.
Linehan knew his job was in jeopardy Sunday, having been put on notice by Rosenbloom. He emptied the playbook, going for first downs twice on fourth down and using a handful of trick plays with a juggled lineup led by Green.
The firing was the second in-season coaching change by the Rams this decade. Martz was replaced after five games in 2005 by interim coach Joe Vitt due to medical reasons. Martz was let go the day after that 5-11 season.
The last Rams coach removed during the season for non-medical reasons was Bob Waterfield, replaced by Harland Svare after eight games in 1962 when the Rams were in Los Angeles.

nothing conclusive there.
but yeah... perhaps it should have been reviewed...

It's OVER the goal line at a maybe 3 degree tilted angle. The ball ONLY has to touch the white line to be a TD. Even if you move it up those 3 degrees, that ball is still laying right on the goal line which means a TD.
Nice picture. Looks like he was over. Philly should have challenged it.
Note- It was not inside 2 minutes, so no booth reviews and Philly had 2 time outs left, so they could have challenged.

the next question is... what's going on with his knees...
followed by was his forward progression stopped prior to the picture...
and finally- why not challenge the call???
please show me where you get 3 degrees?
the camera could be a foot off center and that could be all the difference.
doesn't matter anyways- if it was that close there really should have been a challenge...

His knees didn't drop until he fell backwards after the initial lunge forward (which is when the photo was taken, during the initial lunge).
Reid has turned into a ***** when it comes to challenging calls and I don't know why. He hasn't challenged a call and won in forever, so I think it's starting to mess with his head.
The goalline is a foot wide, so even a foot off-center, with the ball across the line in the image, it would still be breaking the start of the white plain aka TD.
There should have been a challenge undoubtedly. I'm still pissed at Reid for the fact he didn't A) Challenge the call at such a crucial point and B) Didn't run a QB sneak at all.

The skycam is right over the goal line. I'm 95% sure, it's directly over it. They have 4 downs to center it perfectly and that's one of the moments where they would center it perfectly.

do you know how the sky cam system works? do they have electronic feedbak as to where on the field the camera is... or like us... are they going soley off the image on the camera???
i have no idea- but I suspect that they are simply looking for the best shot, based on the image they see from the camera... a spatial awareness system on the sjy cam is probably not there...

Even if they go by the camera shot, they can still put the goal line halfway up the screen in order for it to be common sense directly over the goal line.

Only problem is, my tv cut out at the end of the 4th quarter and I have no idea who bloody won!!!!

The Pittsburgh Steelers lost starting right guard Kendall Simmons and first-round draft pick Rashard Mendenhall to season-ending injuries during their 23-20 overtime victory over Baltimore on Monday night.

Ed Hochuli's premature whistle last Sunday probably cost the Chargers a win over the Broncos, but it wasn't the worst call ever. Onion Sports runs...
Horrible story that never got enough attention (because he was a lineman).

More news in my case:
Packers DE Jenkins likely out for season
Associated Press
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Green Bay Packers (http://www.nfl.com/teams/greenbaypackers/profile?team=GB) defensive end Cullen Jenkins (http://www.nfl.com/players/cullenjenkins/profile?id=JEN173573) is expected to be out for the rest of the season because of an injury suffered in Sunday's loss at Tampa Bay.
His agent Brian Levy told multiple news agencies Tuesday that Jenkins' torn pectoral muscle will require surgery, making coming back this season impossible.
Jenkins was injured as he grabbed Buccaneers quarterback Brian Griese (http://www.nfl.com/players/briangriese/profile?id=GRI028314) during a sack attempt early in the fourth quarter. Griese escaped to compete a 17-yard pass.
In the locker room Monday, Jenkins said he was unable to lift his right arm above shoulder level.
"He's going to need surgery, so he's going to have to go on injured reserve," Levy told the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "The timing couldn't be worse. ... It's a big blow, but he'll come back from this stronger."
The Packers made no formal announcement Tuesday about Jenkins' status. General manager Ted Thompson was traveling on a scouting trip and unavailable.
Levy did not immediately return a call from The Associated Press Tuesday night seeking further comment.
Jenkins had started the season as a leader of Green Bay's defensive line. In four games, he had 2½ sacks, 10 quarterback pressures, a forced fumble and 18 tackles.
The Packer defense earlier lost veteran cornerback Al Harris to a lacerated spleen suffered in the loss to Dallas Sept. 21. Harris is expected to miss at least three more games.
Linebacker A.J. Hawk (http://www.nfl.com/players/a.j.hawk/profile?id=HAW076822) suffered a groin injury Sunday and could miss next Sunday's game against Atlanta.
Safeties Nick Collins (http://www.nfl.com/players/nickcollins/profile?id=COL653692) (back), Atari Bigby (http://www.nfl.com/players/ataribigby/profile?id=BIG264860) (hamstring) and Aaron Rouse (http://www.nfl.com/players/aaronrouse/profile?id=ROU320232) (knee) are all battling injuries, and cornerback Charles Woodson (http://www.nfl.com/players/charleswoodson/profile?id=WOO661523) is playing with a broken toe on his right foot that has prevented him from practicing each of the past three weeks.
On offense, starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers (http://www.nfl.com/players/aaronrodgers/profile?id=ROD339293) has a sprained right shoulder, left tackle Chad Clifton (http://www.nfl.com/players/chadclifton/profile?id=CLI075046) has a hamstring injury and running back Ryan Grant (http://www.nfl.com/players/ryangrant/profile?id=GRA497823) has been nursing a training-camp hamstring injury for the first four weeks of the season.

CHAD THINKS ARRESTS MIGHT LEAD TO WINS (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/10/01/chad-thinks-arrests-might-lead-to-wins/)
Posted by Mike Florio on October 1, 2008, 4:19 p.m. EDT
Bengals receiver Chad Johnson (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/10/01/chad-thinks-arrests-might-lead-to-wins/#)/Ochocino/Ocho Cinco is having a quiet year, both on the field and off it. So, in an apparent effort to kick-start his performance between the lines, Johnson/Ochocinco/Ocho Cinco is contemplating the consumption of some alcohol, perhaps followed by driving a car and/or beating someone up.
“You remember our ‘05 season right? Our ‘05 season we were unbelievable,” Johnson/Ochocino/Ocho Cinco said Wednesday, via our friends at The Sporting Blog. “Our ‘05 season is the year everybody went to jail and got arrested. That year everybody got in trouble. So maybe the bad was a good thing. I t sounds dumb to say, but look at it. We have cleaned house and nobody is getting in trouble anymore, no DUIs, no arrests, now we’re getting our *** whopped. Maybe I don’t know, maybe I should go out have a drink (http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/the_sporting_blog/entry/view/13105/ocho_cinco_to_have_cinco_tequilas,_por_favor), get in trouble. Our ‘05 was one of the best years here in history. It was one of those years where there was a lot of distractions.”
In addition to sounding like a complete idiot, Johnson’s facts are flat-out wrong. The crime spree didn’t begin until December 15, 2005, when receiver Chris Henry (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/10/01/chad-thinks-arrests-might-lead-to-wins/#) was arrested for possession of marijuana. The bulk of the arrests came in 2006.
But, Chad, if you still want to get in trouble, feel free. Just try not to hurt anyone other than, you know, yourself.

Lol that man is officially stumped . I like this Chad Johnson. The other one had nothing interesting to say and maybe that was something they need. The Bengals have nothing to smile about. They're 0-4.
They need someone to step up and brings some enthusiasm to that team. That may have been an extremely idiotic thing to say, but it was humorous nonetheless.
Oh Chad. Maybe if you had any heart, and you would STFU and play the game your team could get a couple wins.
Might as well make news during the week cause you ain't doing **** on the weekends.
CHAD RENEWS HIS PITCH TO PLAY IN DALLAS (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/10/01/chad-renews-his-pitch-to-play-in-dallas/)
Posted by Mike Florio on October 1, 2008, 6:37 p.m. EDT
Early in the 2008 offseason, Bengals receiver Chad Johnson embarked on an attempt to be traded to any other NFL team (and also the Raiders). He made it clear that he wants out of Cincinnati, and then he later made it clear that he never wanted to leave.
With the Bengals mired in an 0-4 funk and facing one of the best teams in the league at Dallas on Sunday, Johnson seems to be renewing his effort to leave Ohio.
“I tried (http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2008/10/just-imagine-if-ocho-cinco-joined-the-va.html),” Johnson said during a Wednesday conference call with reporters. “I talked to 81 almost every day, man. I love 81. We talk all the time. That would’ve been a circus.
“Let me tell you, I don’t mean to be funny . . . . I’m not tried to be rude or piss anybody off, but if I was in Dallas, they would have to change all of our damn games to pay-per-view because you need to pay to see that [bleep]. I’m serious. I’m so serious. They would have to put all the games on pay-per-view. Because you can’t just watch a show like that for free; 81 and 85? Come on, now. Please.”
And Johnson then made it pretty clear that he’s still interested in making it happen.
“Tell Jerry Jones I said hello, and give me a call some time,” Johnson said at the end of the conference call.
The Bengals reportedly told Johnson once he re-embraced the team that, if he behaves for all of the 2008 season, they might look into giving him a new deal next year. It’s pretty safe to say that his new deal is now in jeopardy.

Just to tie Collier getting shot in with the season ending injury to the Packer. The Packers signed the guy that was sitting in the car with Collier when he was shot 14 times. How did that guy not get hit with any bullets?

Brian Westbrook (ankle) took part in the Eagles' Wednesday walkthrough and some drills on a "limited" basis in the afternoon session.
He had "limited" participation, but this is more than he did all last week. Westbrook remains likely to be a game-time decision in Week 5 against the Redskins, but he has a much better chance to play this week than last. Oct. 1 - 12:28 pm et
With or without Westbrook, the winner will be the one that shows up to fight.

Chad said"kissing the star at midfield is out of respect recognizing the cowboys as the worlds greatest franchise".
Davis said other teams didn't want Moss before the Patriots obtained him.
"You know how many teams turned him down?" Davis said. "That guy in Green Bay thought he couldn't run any more. Even Denver, where they'll take anybody, turned him down."

Vince Young is back at practice, according to numerous reports. And he might even be promoted to the number 2 QB. But, Titans, hear my plea, don’t do it. Keep Kerry Collins as QB.
I understand the temptation. VY is your big money guy, your franchise player. But, let’s face it. Collins is playing better right now. He has an 81.3 passer rating, and only one pick. He’s managing the game, taking no unnecessary risks. Just like a good QB does.
VY has more talent. That’s a given. But Collins is the best guy for the job right now. Even Ravens coach John Harbaugh said, “He plays around his talent really well. He makes all the throws he needs to make, he’s big, he’s poised in the pocket. Just really playing well.” Don’t do it Titans.
Coach Fisher, you’ve heard my advice. And Tennessee, I think it’s time for some Keep Kerry buttons. You’ll thank me later.

Jerry Jones: Cowboys Are About 'Glitz and Glitter' (Insert Punchline Here)

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/nfl.fanhouse.com/media/2008/10/rowdy-cheerleader.jpgIn a LA Times article discussing his new mega stadium, Jerry Jones manages to offend both Cowboy (http://www.latimes.com/sports/printedition/la-sp-cowboys1-2008oct01,0,1156838.story?page=1) and Texan fans in three sentences:
"The Cowboys have never been about checkered tablecloths and boots and hats. They've been about glitz and glitter. Leave the other stuff to the Houston Texans."Jerrah. Let me splain something to you. I'm guessing that most Cowboy fans don't want to have their franchise described as "glitz and glitter." Perhaps it's less of a pejorative than "cocaine, mugshots and *****s" so I suppose Dallas fans have that going for them.
Even so, you might as well have added "unicorns, rainbows and fairy dust" in your description. Even a fellow from Arkansas should figure out that most football-watching menfolk don't want their team described as glittery.
And well, it isn't terribly accurate. Check out the picture of Cowboy mascot Rowdy and his cheerleader friend. Looks like boots and hat to me. They'd probably also have a checkered tablecloth too if they were dining alfresco.
Texans owner Bob McNair refused to take the bait (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/6035206.html) and laughed about it:
"I'm not offended by what Jerry said. I'm glad he knows we're the Texans. I'm proud to be a Texan and a Houstonian....I don't think it's always about glitz and glitter. Houston's a hardworking city, and the Texans are a hardworking team. I don't see anything wrong with checkered tablecloths, hats and boots."Most people in Texans don't wander about daily in western hats and boots, but some of them do. And when the rest of us have the occasion put on our western finery, we have no shame in representing that we are Texans, and that hats and boots are a part of our heritage. I believe that is true for most folks living in Texas, whether you are a Cowboy fan, a Texan fan, or a fan of both franchises.Best comments..

The culmination of every derogatory statement that I have ever made in a lifetime of hating the cowgays could never amount to the damage done by Jerrah using "glitz and glitter" to describe a football team in Texas. That's actually a good point, we all saw what happened to Denver last week (major lulz). Oh well I'm too lazy to go back and change my pick anyway.

I revised on of my picks. I now feel TB will beat Denver. I sat down and thought about that game. While Jay Cutler is probably throwing the best ball in the NFL, TB plays some solid defense. That Tampa 2 Defense doesn't allow for the big play that much and if they can generate TOs, they may be able to regulate the clock with that running game.
Not to mention that Denver has an undersized defense that is struggling to generate pressure. It'll be a close game, but I think Tampa will take this game late.

Yeah I definitely thought the same thing, but then my thinking was that Tampa will come out a little slow because it's in Denver, high altitude, and a little cooler... so Denver has a good chance to jump out early. And it seems Gruden and Griese are already a little too pass happy (who knows why with that solid run game they have) and this will just confound it and lead to more turnovers.
But if Denver doesn't get out early then I definitely see it going like you said.
Lethalmind
10-03-2008, 06:54
Yea which is why I had Denver in my original pick: because they have home-field advantage in this game. What turned me away is the fact that they do have great corners, but they have a very undersized defense that doesn't generate alot of pressure. That isn't the way to get it done in this league anymore.
Elvis Dumervil is their best pass rusher and he is very small (Like 5'11 and not very heavy). One stat that I heard that amazed me, is that in 97 pass attempts, Griese did not get sacked. I don't throw stats around but that's eye-opening. The OL is giving outstanding pass protection. Any defense can get picked apart if you don't force the QB to make mistakes which is why people have made a mockery of the Denver defense this season.
So, a Giants, Redskins & Cowboys fan...
...were out for a ride when one noticed a foot sticking out of the bushes by the side of the road. They stopped and discovered a nude female, dead drunk.
Out of respect and propriety, the Redskins fan took off his cap and placed it over her right ***.
The Giants fan took off his cap and placed it over her left ***.
Following their lead, but with some grumbling, the Dallas Cowboy fan took off his cap and placed it over her girly part.
The police were called and when the officer arrived, he conducted his inspection. First, he lifted up the Redskins cap, replaced it, and wrote down some notes.
Next, he lifted the Giants cap, replaced it, and wrote down some more notes.
The officer then lifted the Cowboys cap, replaced it, then lifted it again, replaced it, lifted it a third time, and replaced it one last time.
The Cowboys fan was becoming annoyed and finally asked, 'What are you, a pervert or something? Why do you keep lifting and looking, lifting and looking?
'Well,' said the officer, 'I am simply surprised. Normally when I look under a Dallas Cowboys hat, I find an *** hole.

I think it will be a fun game, but I do not think it will be easy. Tampa has been playing good ball lately.
Hard to ever pick a team that has been giving up 30 points a game, even if that offense is spectacular. All it takes is a couple hick-ups like last week.
This is also the best D they have faced so far even though Tampa does give up the pass.
I still think you are at least a year away.

Stats can kiss my *** as far as I'm concerned. Only reason I brought up that Griese stat is because the OL is doing a fantastic job of keeping him upright. Denver losing to KC means absolutely nothing to me. Just because stats show that they could've lost means nothing to me and it is a sorry excuse to use. If you're a good team, you beat bad teams. They didn't beat a bad team. Herm Edwards is a great coach to me but he doesn't have the weaponry needed to push this team to the playoffs this year.
Yes they're great offensively but last time I check, defense wins championships. Where the hell is the Defense of the Denver Broncos? TB has a solid running game and it just so happens that the broncos have a terrible run defense and that Tampa offensive line isn't small. if they don't stop that run, Champ Bailey and Dre Bly or not, they'll give up the pass. We've seen that the last 4 weeks already........

That makes me think...When was the last time you could say that it was mainly the offense that carried a team through the playoffs and to win the superbowl? The last really impressive offense performance I could think of was Steve Young with the 49'ers in the mid 90's. Their defense wasn't a slacker either but I just remember the offense putting up big #'s.

And I agree with that logic. Pretty truthful. My opinion is don't count out those Bucs. They run the ball well. They're 3-1 as well. I highly doubt a thumping is happening anywhere in this game. Should be an interesting game anyway you look at it

Yes it is and that was a very good example. I don't think that defense was much of a pushover though as I don't have the numbers and recollection of the Defense of that 49ers team.
It really is something that is rare so it can't be accounted to happen every year.

No, that logic is tarted to use in this discussion. It works both ways in an toss up game, so why even apply it.

LAWRENCE PHILLIPS GETS 10 YEARS IN PRISON (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/10/03/lawrence-phillips-gets-10-years-in-prison/)
Posted by Michael David Smith on October 3, 2008, 5:59 p.m. EDT
Lawrence Phillips, the 1996 first-round draft choice of the St. Louis Rams, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jJVwBG5_tu8eGDPGWtLRK4NB6fdAD93J8MBO4) for assault with a deadly weapon.
The sentencing is a result of an incident that took place in August of 2005, when he drove onto a field and struck three people with his car because he was angry about losing a pickup football game. He was convicted in 2006, but sentencing was delayed because of legal wrangling over a guilty plea in a previous domestic abuse case that Phillips wanted to withdraw.
Phillips reportedly cried at the sentencing and told one of the victims, “I’m sorry that your leg is messed up. I’m sorry you have to come in here like this.”
Legal trouble has followed Phillips everywhere he’s been, from his college career at Nebraska to all of his pro stops, which have included playing for the Rams, Dolphins and 49ers, as well as NFL Europe, Arena Football and the Canadian Football League. In his NFL career he played 35 games and ran 424 times for 1,453 yards.
