View Full Version : Over $20 million of PlayStation 3 hardware pre-ordered:With photos from the Sydney
Despite us reporting yesterday that more than "10,000 people have pre-ordered the PlayStation 3", Sony has officially confirmed via a press release that more than $20,000,000 worth of PS3 hardware has been pre-ordered in Australia, and a quick calculation appears to indicate that equates to around 20,000 consoles.
Last night, over 500 retailers opened their doors at midnight to celebrate the launch of the console. One of the first purchasers of the PAL PlayStation 3 was Danny Darka, who was first in line at Myer Sydney. Sony's local managing director, Michael Ephraim, and Myer CEO Bernie Brookes personally handed the console to the new PlayStation 3 owner.
We've also included a few other photos of the midnight launch, which appears to have gone off without stolen consoles and injured parties. Sony should release sales figures for the console next week, so we'll report back once they let us know how well the console has gone in Australia.

Totally, if it's true it means first week sales should be around 20k. Xbox360 only did about 35k. Cop that MS!! :suspect:

Wow cant believe we're gonna get sales figures from all over the world from now on! woot. I'm pretty confident the ps3 will sell 1mil units withing 2 weeks max :).
I remember the x360 only sold 1.5mil units worldwide by the end of march lol. Many ppl put the ps3 down but all they're trying to do is hide that sony is doing a lot better than MS did at this point last year.

Yeah the PalGN guys they like to get about 4 or 5 good shots so they are willing to set it up.
And how did the other guy get a controller? Well when the guy playing is the head of SCEA sixaxis's fall from the sky and he can just give them to people.

notice the PS3 box on the bottom floor opened? he took the controller out of the box and try to joke with the guy beside him. i guess to confuse him and stuff lol.

ahhh the frantic look of Aussie parents shelling out $1000 for their son's birthday present, which btw isn't until next year- priceless.
