View Full Version : How to shoot a UMD disc from your PSP
Can we say oops? Not a big issue, but Sony engineers have to be kicking themselves over this.

Ha. That is a bit of a design flaw, but nothing too serious. You have to twist it in a certain way in order to get the disc to fly out so I don't think this will effect many people. Most people won't wan't to risk damaging their PSP to test this out, so hopefully this won't be a big issue for the PSP.

This was the initial batch of PSP. If I recall correctly I've also heard of a lot of people with dead pixals on the DS. I know someone that got one. I bet they will fix the problem before the US release.
Thats a good point. I'm sure Sony will probably fix this issue before the U.S release, if they deem it serious enough to be worthy of a re-design.

Youd think such problems would be resolved before its release, other than rush to get it out and leave problems unrecognised. Obviously your always going to get some that arent 100%.

Japan always gets things first, and because of that, they get all the bugs and defects that come with a first launch. BUT most of the time, they are fixed for the North American release =)

That's hilarious. You could tell that the person was getting excited and then it just pops out.
But I wouldn't want that to happen once it comes to U.S. That's alot of sales gone.

I dont think it's a very common flaw. Yes sony should make it more durable and sturdy seeing how it is a handheld but i've seen other videos of this and it really requires quite a bit of twisting to make this happen.
I do not believe that this will affect sales in any way. People just won't care, or won't see it.
Japan doesn't get everything first anymore.
The Xbox did not come to Japan first
The Nintendo DS did not go to Japan first.
There is a trend starting. Japan has dropped from the 2nd largest gaming market to the 3rd. Even Japanese game makers are starting to focus more on the US and Euro markets.

as they should. but as said before this was the first batch and will most likely be fixed for us arrival and the amount of torque that the PSP underwent to eject the UMD was beyond that of normal circumstances.

I didn't mean just concerning video games alone. I was referring to all technology in general. I see the trend as well too ;) For example, the MGS series...

It would be very nice though if the tables did turn and quickly so that japan was now the ones waiting for everything and we had it first

for something as mere as having to twist the PSP hard to make a UMD shoot out id gladly have it first and make the japanese wait 4 months. plus if it really was a siginificant glitch i bet the company /distributer would return it.
LMAO thats sum good midnight entertainment, see, sonys not only a electrionics maker, but there comedians too lol. Hopefully all defects will be fixed before may 2005

umm the date we all have heard so far is march 25.
I think that that shooting thing is only in the inital batch...and the second batch wouldn't have it...but who would be dumb enough to try it for themselves?

i dont know but i for one am not really worried.I'm sure that they have it fixed by now for japan and that they for sure will have it fixed in time for us.And if it isn't a total fix it will be an improvment so that if you did eject it you would have to put a massive amount of torque on it.(and the amount needed in the video's seemed quite a bit to beggin with.)
I saw something on shooting the umd disc on G4Tech tv. I fergot what show but it was pretty cool.

that video same very weak to me. I mean it didn't look like it want that far. also it very sad to hear Japan drop from 2nd to 3nd. I guess we are number one and europe is 2nd right. 8)
That is some funny crap. In a way im glad that JP gets stuff first they make good beta testers. The only thing that sucks is the wait. Im amazed that EA is droping Madden of their license. wonder what happend.

Yes it is true. My UMD of GTA: LCS ejected into the air and landed in my coffee! Out of all the places it could land it had to land in my drink!
It has only done it once, i can't get it to do it again.

Did you get GTA fixed or was it broken too badly?
I don't think that the game would have been damaged. If he took it out and place it under running water for awhile and dried it afterward with a hair dryer, it should have been OK.
Except if the coffee was really hot?

Hmmm, like if you are dipping a biscuit in your tea or coffee and half of it falls in, lol, did ya take the UMD out with a spoon?
EDIT: that wasn't meant to be funny, just saying the similarities between UMDs and biscuits :)

Yeah the coffee was not all that hot. I just washed it out with water, and stuck it in the grill of the Air-con to dry out. Worked fine ever since. :D

The company behind Play magazine in the UK, Imagine Publishing, has announced the first and currently only dedicated PlayStation 3 magazine in the UK. Titled Next3, the magazine will hit stands this August 10th at £4.
“The same makers of the PlayStation-dedicated UK magazine Play now presents you with a magazine that covers anything and everything about Sony's next-generation console. Next3, UK's first and only PS3-only mag, will offer in-depth news, previews and reviews of upcoming games plus a section that will highlight PS3’s multimedia and networking capabilities (i.e., Blu-ray movie reviews, online gaming and cutting edge technology)”, the announcement read.
There will be 13 issues of Next3 per year and the cover for the maiden issue has already been released- the issue will contain a 24-page feature titled “The future has arrived”. A September issue with a bonus DVD is already planned.
Competitors of Next3 will include the recently renamed PSM3 magazine which will feature the PlayStation brand and focus predominantly on the PlayStation 3.

The weird thing is it won't be the first PS3 magazine.
Have a read of this:

And PSM3 was announced quite a few weeks ago and being the first PS3 magazine to go on sale.

Nope:
PSM3 is the UK's first dedicated Playstation 3 magazine
We've had PSM2 here for quite a while.
You could just say another PS3 magazine is being released.

Well, I looked up PSM3 and it's going to be a PS magazine: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=18467
"Focusing predominantly on the forthcoming PlayStation 3, PSM3 also continues to review and feature the very best new PSP and PS2 releases."
So Next3 will be the only dedicated one. I added a para about PSM3 though.
