hey everyone - i was just wondering how stable ur PS3's are. my ps2 was really stable and barely ever crashed.
but my ps3 has crashed a few times, usually when im on a game or demo and when i go to quit the game it says please wait and sticks. its really embarrassing because it usually happens when my mates are there lol. and then they make a deal out of it like its a serious problem.
just wondering, how often does ur ps3 crash and what ur doing when it does.

Haven't crashed on me yet. I'm really impressed how rock solid it is:)
I can F@H for a couple of days, then I'll game for 10 hours straight on Motorstorm without any trouble.
I was playing a PS2 game and it crashed but that was the only time my PS3 crashed.
Never crashed and my controllers have never disconnected
i never had a crash with mine and also my controllers never disconnect
The PS3 generally are very stable, you do get threads about certain issues, like those that turn on and off by their own will, Blu-ray player does not give audio or it jumps, the sixaxis issues with syncing which results in needing to use the USB cable, etc...
These are individual cases though and in general the PS3 is the most sturdy/reliable new gen console there is, but nothing is perfect.

Never had a crash here.. Very stable
Mine has crash two time, both of those time I had a party and the room was full of people, I mean 20+ people. it has never crash before or after that so it was because it was too hot in the room, I have play for entire days and it haven't crash again... I'm very happy with it.
no crashes just occasional disconnection of controllers, no biggie though

I had a car crash... which in turn caused the PS3 that was in the car to crash... but I sent it back to Sony and I get a brand new one in two days. Before that though I had no problems at all with anything. HDMI worked flawlessly, controllers never disconnected, and the thing even did my taxes... maybe not, but I don't doubt that it could with the right software installed.

Mine only crashed three or four times but it was from neglegence. Now I make sure that I keep it ventilated and clean it every week especially since it's a dust magnet.

well if people don't talk about anything other than the ps3, that shouldn't be a problem.
As for me, no, never a single problem.

For me, it has frozen about 5-7 times to date from launch. But it only seems to occur when I'm jumping from the XMB to games and vise versa.
It has frozen during FFXII 2 times in one day, but never again. I think it wasn't well ventilated during that time.
And the controller phantom problem, which seems to occur in one controller more then the other.
Other then the one time I tried to play a blu-ray movie, it hasn't frozen in the past couple of weeks and I've been running folding@home near none stop. It isn't to the point where I'm going to replace it because it happens way to often , but if it persist throughout the summer, I'll probably replace it.

It only froze once when i tried loading NBA 07' so I just took the game back and got NBA 2K7 all is good now. I try takin care of mine lol.
I've only had mine freeze one time and it was after quiting a game, The Godfather: Don's Edition. Other than that one freeze up I have not had any other problems.

Mine has never crashed. Sometimes it takes longer than I'd like to get back to the XMB, but I have never had it crash and needed to reboot (knock wood).

I've had my PS3 since launch, and the only time its ever crashed was when I left Oblivion running on pause for three days, saved the game, then it crashed. I work for a game developer here in the D.C. metro area, and one of the things they have testers do is leave consoles on over night to soak the hardware, often times it is the software that causes the crashes and not hardware.
There are several things you can do to prevent your PS3 from crashing.
1. Make sure it is placed in a well ventilated area 2. Make sure when turning off the PS3 to fully exit games to the XMB. Turning the system off while in game can cause hard drive errors. 3. Repeat step 1

I played God of War 2 from 1:30 PM on a Saturday to 1:30 AM the next morning (non-stop) on my PS3. Not one problem whatsoever. I finally finished my first folding session on Thursday by leaving the PS3 running for 8 hours straight. Again, no problems.
My PS3 has crashed a few times only while playing R:FoM Multiplayer it doesn't do it when i am playing actual game but it jus freezez and you cant do anything but just hold your finger on the touch on/off button till it turns off..this doesn't seem to match any of what you guys have said but maybe its not a bad thing and will stop

Overall the PS3 has been reported as a rock solid console that is very reliable. IMO people way too often associate hardware freezes and crashes as a hardware issue and not software issues. Several known issues have been quickly resolved in firmware updates and game application patches. I have yet to hear of widespread issues that would indicate otherwise.

Mine has crashed about 5 times, and my controllers seriously disconnect like every 15 minutes. It wasn't that bad when I first got the system but it's seems to be getting worse. Might have to call up Sony because I think the bluetooth is going bad.
Mine crashed ones when i was playing motorstorm online.

In the 7 years of having my PS2, it froze once, on Dynasty Warriors 5...other then that, it was all I could've asked for in a game console.
So far in the 4 months of having my PS3, it has froze once, exactly like you said, I was quiting out of Resistance and it froze.
But for now, the PS3 seems to be really reliable and stable. A lot more stable then the Xbox 360 seems to be.
My Ps3 has never crashed at all which I am really pleased with. I have also never had the controller disconnect, which I think appears to be a problem with the first batch of PS3's sold in US.
The stability of the PS3 was one of the major issues I had before I bought one due to the level of processing that is being carried out.
Sony have really outdone themselves in terms of making the PS3 as reliable as possible.

Froze 2 times while playing Resistance. But that was in the beginning b4 all the firmware updates. Havent had ne problems with freezing or bluetooth controller disconnectivity in a LONG time...
:P
my ps3 is very stable, it has never crashed
Mine has never crashed, however I do find that splinter cell double agent is very laggy with momentary freezes on the loading screens but this seems to be a game issue rather than an intrinsic hardware fault

it seems that alot of peole have the same problem - when quitting a game it sometimes freezes. but this rarely happens so i can live with that lol. it has never crashed when on XMB or in game, just when quitting a game, atleast it crashes after uve finished playing the game lol, so uve saved etc. maybe its just a glitch they may improve on with firmware (hoefull wishes lol).
As for the disconnection of controllers i have never had this problem, works fine and love the battery life, lasts like a week.
Only had the random freeze now and then, and those are normally when I try exiting a game while it loads. Never had it freeze in-game.
All in all, it's worked like a charm for me.

My brother's PS2 freezes alot, but only when playing madden. I have never had the problem he does, he also has the slim and i have the bigger box. It freezes when you go into the newspaper at the beginning of the season. Other than that I can't remember ever having rampant problems with the PS2, mine at least. My PS3 froze only once, I was playing NBA Homecourt and I was running at the top of the key and all of a sudden it froze. Both of these games are EA, so that would support the software theory in my opinion. On that note, I love EA, even if they don't make major changes every year...I can deal with a freeze every once in a while, just turn autosave on!
First day i had it (23rd march) i just set up PSN and went on Resistance online. Got halfway through second round of the deathmatch and it just crashed.
Then yesterday when i was playing Ride Racer demo it crashed halfway through that. But thats the only two times it has crashe din the however long i have had it :P
Mine has crashed a few times. Once was while trying to load the demo fo F1 for the first time, it just locked up on the black screen before the game loaded. Same thing once with F@H - it just locked up while loading the application. And then one time while playing Pblivion, it just locked up and I had to restart with the button on the back of the box.
Generally, its been when I have been trying to load a game, or demo that has been downloaded. Only had the one problem in Oblivion that one time, not on any other BR games though. In every case, a quick reset brought the game os back up and it didnt happen again right away. Keep in mind, this has all happened over the last few months, not all in a short time period.

mine has never crashed once. not even in PS2 games. and i am folding whenever i dont use it. it has never been turned off.
: note : For those people who crash their PS3's and moan about the dings and scratches, please remember that there are cases available to protect your PS3..:p
my ps3 has frozen once, 2 nights ago while playing college hoops, but besides for that it has run flawlessly playing games, blu-ray movies, and F@H.

Mine froze once
It was when I first got it I was going through the setup proccess and it froze
I had just taken it out of the box and was setting up my psn account and it froze
This made me very scared I thought OH NO it is brand new and locked up already
I had to turn it off and start over agian
But as soon as I got it registered the day I bought it there was a firmware update ready for it that was in DEC. I installed that firmware and it has never locked up froze crashed or any such thing agian
I have left it on for 4 or 5 days folding then went strait into oblivion for 15 hours and it worked fine
I have however had the controller take over and controll my character several times
But I found if that happens you can just push the start button and pause the game then unpause and it is ok.
That has only happened like 4 or 5 times though
My ps3 is pretty stable havn't crashed since the firmware upgrade, before it once froze when I tried to quit a demo, another time it froze on the XMB when I deleted like 3 demos at once. so I guess Sony fixed what ever was wrong. My ps2 freezes when I play Midnight Club DUB for a couple of hours and when I press pause it would freeze.

No problems here. Fantastic machine.
Frozen twice in two weeks and a half, both during Motorstorm online... perhaps the network code isn't so stable, I dunno. But nothing serious, works fine after a hard reboot. Fantastic device indeed imo.

No problems whatsoever with my PS3 either. It's definately more reliable than most 360s out there.

browser used to crash when i surf on 1.5 firmware and below but not any more. Just like Ubersnuber, I can fold@home for days then play games without crashing.
Crash????is that even associated with the PS3 here i thought this epidemic was contained in the 360 camp. On a serious note my baby is rock solid it even seems it needs to be mistreated before i experience crashes or anything else.

Funny side note (Im not bashing the 360, I just found this humorous). I was at Target the other day and I went to see what demos were on the 360 kiosk, and on the screen it said something to effect of "This disc can only be played on an Xbox 360 video game system. Please insert this disc into an Xbox 360." My friend and I laughed for a good long time when I said "Only Microsoft could create a machine that can have an identity crisis"...
My PS3 is really stable.. it never crashed... its a great console....
