Is Sony going to pick the first 15,000 people that sign-up? Is it going to be based on how much time your have spent on your ps3 or how many games you have played? Does anyone know how there going to do it? Or is it still unkown? =]

I dont care how they pick the people as long as im one of the ones picked. Seriously, I think you have to go on the home website (I forgot the link) and you sign up when beta testing is avaliable.

I'm sure there will be alot of different things when decideing who gets in. Like Internet(speed, wireless, wired) being a main one. In beta's you as the player are trying to find glitches, bugs, exploits whatever and report them so they can be fixed. So they will want a wide variety of different players.

I hope I get in =]

I would think most devs already have had a look at HOME and are working on things as we speak to put into it (trophies).

Depending on how the sign-up form is. If they ask you to fill out a survey, they would probably want people with X amount of hours online, type of connection, type of TV, types of games you play etc..

If I were conducting a limited beta test, I would want want the following:

1) High number of hours online: 8 - 10 hours per week.
2) A variety of gamers: From shooters to RPGs. The more diverse, the better the feedback will be.
3) High Speed internet - DSL or Cable from a number of locations around the world.
4) HDTV and Standard Definition TV users.

A successful beta (end product) relies heavily on the participants chosen. I hope they choose good ones.

First come first serve seems the fairest way to do it to me. I would guess probably aroud 5000 from the 3 main regions. (Asia, UN, NA)

i hope its not first come first served i think it should be a random pick the computer chooses 5000 pn accounts from each main area EU,NA,ASIA

True, I try to do that at times. Fortunately, there are also honest people in the world. Also, your location plays a part.

Not to mention a dash of luck! :D

http://www.homebetatrial.com/privacyPolicy.html

The privacy policy states that people 13 and younger should obtain parental permission before submitting personal info. It is under the "Home Beta Trial Agreement", so... take what you want from that.

You guys theres no way its going to be first come first serve or random. You will have to fill out a application and then they will decide who they want in.

home is going to be amazing i read you can surf down stairs on a sofa and you can go to a cinema where people can upload their videos or movies so people in that screen can watch them and also when you play music it gets louder and quieter when you move closer or further from the source of the music

they'll be looking for specific specs about everyone. they'll choose some people with everything top quality and some with lower quality, just to make sure it looks and works perfectly on anything. they would never just choose people with 50" hdtv's cuz they couldn't get all the information they need from the beta. chances are it'll be complete luck if you get in, and i can tell that it wont be first come first serve or people with specific requirements, they'll want a little bit of everything.

They'll probably pick sumone who waited in line for it. An X amount from each country. Euro, UK, Canada, Us, Japan, Australia and such. Depending of course.

Well this is certainly a mystery isn't it! Well we know they announced that the Beta would open sometime in late April and that they have an official website just sitting there for that day to come. Most likely this will be a first come first serve situation because they can't really pick who had the ps3 longer because very few people had the chance of getting it on launch day so that would make it an unfair advantage. They probably won't judge it by who plays the most, because a lot of people play their ps3's nonstop, and I don't know about the rest of you......but I happen to have a life lol. The problem with first come first serve however is that once they have registering available, people will be flooding onto that website. Most likely the server will crash and then our chances ill be even more limited. My message to everyone is: In the likelihood that this is first come first serve, please do everyone a favor and don't blab it on other forums (including this one) when it is available. You will just be making it harder for everyone else to register by alerting people and having them flood the already packed servers. My advice is to bookmark the site and keep checking back every now and then.

i highly doubt it's "first come, first serve" if the beta trial is a stress test of the server stability(which is pretty likely)

I'm sure there will be alot of different things when decideing who gets in. Like Internet(speed, wireless, wired) being a main one. In beta's you as the player are trying to find glitches, bugs, exploits whatever and report them so they can be fixed. So they will want a wide variety of different players.
as RiDDeLiNKiD mentioned... it's more likely that they'll take the connection, where you live and other stuff into consideration before they choose who's going to be accepted

They may even select a lot of there GAP members with PS3s. These are the people that do a lot of beta testing anyway.

Beemer
04-14-2007, 04:00
If you look at the site it says "Register an interest". This leads me to believe they'll choose the people with the best "interests". How they will choose the people in a short amount of time is beyond me. I would think it would take at least a month to sort through over 1,000,000 (a guess of how many will sign up) profiles.

pimpinyourmom69
04-14-2007, 04:36
Yea, i really think they have to take many stuff into consideration. Like area the ps3 is in, connectivity, if you are using your ps3 frequently , or maybe if you will take the beta seriously or not. There is just to many stuff that can make them choose who will and who wont be in the trials

SplitFish-RW
04-14-2007, 04:41
Now that I think about it I completely forgot what they will most likely look for.......past beta testing experiences. A lot of online games that go into beta testing choose the testers by their beta testing experiences and whether or not they have a vast knowledge of video games and how to look for glitches etc. It would ensure that people will actually be looking for glitches and testing out the experience instead of messing around and contributing nothing to the cause. A fast internet speed is a must. Sony will probably not pick dial-up/modem users....most likely high speed internet users......a.k.a Comcast crowd =)

i just checked my magic crystal ball, but it didn't know how Sony will accept Home Beta testers.

feel free to post more threads asking about it, though. maybe someone else's magic crystal ball will have the answer.....

I'm hoping that prior exp. beta testing helps, maybe the last 2 years of beta testing I've done will help me get in. Just be honest about your app. they want a wide range of people to help with this. The reason for beta testing isn't to see how the best speced comp/console runs on there system, its more about where are the bugs? Can we make this better and easier to use. Also spelling errors, exploits, places where your char can get stuck. (was stuck in one MMO for 3 days inside a wall lol). It's also about stress testing there servers and finding ways to make it work for lower end users (slower net users) to be able to run it. Beta testing is fun but its also kinda like a job. They want people to help them make it run better.

i think its mainly in Europe

only releaseing it in one territory would be suicide do to the fact that the us and china have a much larger installed base and lets face it a GROUP of people who would be ****ed to not get the chance to at least be in the contending for home

Well bolded on the site it says:

Keep checking back on this site to register an interest in taking part in an exclusive closed Beta Trial of Home™.

Because of the underlined part I believe that what will be done is you will sign up on that site and then they will sort through the people they want to test HOME and those they don't. The way they word that is basically like saying "Come sign up and show us that you would want to be apart of the beta" and not "Sign up so you can download and test HOME".

That's just my opinion though.

i don't think it will be first come, first serve as its just unfair. an application form is likely and only the public will on this BETA, devs will have had one already. games will already make use of home before its released, trophies, like LAIR, which will be the first i believe
