I played through twice. First on hardcore, later on insane. I can’t remember ever playing trough the same game twice, but I might play through gear a third time simply because its so good. I like gears single player more than crackdown and LP, even though they are very good as well.
About 6 to 10 hours.
A good single player game get Oblivion.

Bad boring, dull, uninspiring, short, no character development...but it's easier to swallow with a friend.

You will not regret it!! Best game so far on the 360, After you finish it once you want to finish it over and over and over and....... Hey man! It is addictive!!

It's probably 7-10 hours. There are three levels of difficulty so you should get at least 25-30 hours if you only play single player. There are enough differences (enemy behavior) between difficulty levels that it kept me interested as I went through them. You can also do co-op campaign which can be a blast.
Personally, I found GoW to be a lot more fun than Lost Planet.

Uhhh Oblivion takes that cake, GRAW 2 might even be better than Gears. Once you get over the wow factor of Gears' visuals you'll notice the experience underneath is rather shallow compared to other games out there. To me people who played and beat Resistance have less respect for Gears because the game has so little real substance.
P.S Mentioned Resistance because I know Cool Guy has a PS3.

It's alright enough to play through each difficulty once. But there's no fun boss battles at all and it gets repetitive after a while.

The only decent boss was the last one at the end of the game. General Raam.

i think gears of war is rather dissapointing, way overhyped just because of the graphics. i wouldn't get the x360 to play gears.
If you're getting no online, I'd seriously just rent it. Keep it for a month and play through it 4 times for each weekend.
It's an awesome experience, but it does get old. But I'm the kind of guy who doesn't want to play the same game over just because it's a bit harder. I need new experiences. I'd never play Resistance twice either. Online give it more life.

There's a bunch of good games for the 360 besides Gears.
For example,
Oblivion
GRAW 2
F.E.A.R. (which I think is a little under-estimated.. fun story, even better multiplayer)
Guitar Hero 2
Call of Duty 2 or 3 (3 has good multiplayer but single player is pretty bad)
Rainbow Six: Vegas
Gears has a sweet but short single player, but it's even better if you do co-op with one of your friends. The online is pretty good, though there are a lot of 'WTF' moments.
Crackdown is really really fun but gets boring FAST, make it a rent. I haven't played Lost Planet yet, so I have no comment on that.

Hells yeah! I couldn't get into the game for a long time but recently I've been addicted to it. F.E.A.R = awesome

all the shooter single player games are pretty short....no matter you take GRAW 1/2 or COD 2/3 or Gears of War.....but Gears of War is game that every gamer should play...thats what i feel....and ig you wanna invest lot of time in the game you buy and if you are interested in RPG...there is no better game than Oblivion...the best game on any console if you wanna make your $60 worth it for your game.....but if you consider shooters...i would definitely pick GRAW 2 or Gears Of War...you have to play em'

Its excellent provided you play with a friend, alone the yeam AI is laughable, but still a fun game :D Certinly not Game of the year material though ;)
The only ones that complain about gears single player either played it in easy, or care to much about story over gameplay.
The Game Play of gears is ****ing amazing. I have played through the single player about 6 times, and have beat insane.
If you play this game on ***** mode you will get a short and not challenging experience, if you play it in medium or hard then you will get an awesome and 14 hour game.
Its a positive and a negative...
Positive:
Beautiful and diverse scenery
Interesting enemies
Stunning gore (I never cared for gore in game, but in this it truly is extraordinary)
Very varied difficulty
Negatives:
You have to play it through once to get to Insane
Character development is non-existant
Characters are on the whole annoying
Its very short content wise... 5 hours on easy, 7-8 on insane (Probably a bit more for a single player)
The problem with this game is that, if you ONLY had it for single player.... you'd probably get bored.
Playing it co-op is fantastic, on your own? Not so good. The multiplayer is a blast too.

The Game itself did annihilate anything else at the developers awards, and I mean it won about half of the awards and game of the year.

The game is short but I played all the difficulties. When you beat the game on insane you get the gamer pic thats in my sig. The multiplayer is pretty fun and quite addiciting like all multiplayer games COD2/COD3, R:FOM, Lost Planet...ect.

Doesn't mean it was the best game like I beat that game alone on Insane and it didn't make it anymore exciting it just pointed out the flaws even more. If it took you 14 hours to beat gears quit the shooter genre.
The single player is sooooooooooooo good. Especially with a buddy, split screen or over live. I'm playing it through for the 5th time right now...
If it is so hard to choose what game you really want to buy , then just rent the games and then make a decision. Gears imo is a great game i can play the game on single as many times as i want , it never gets old for me.

I'm aware Galls, yet in my opinion it didn't derserve any awards except best graphics...
Oblivion,Twighlight Princess and Okami deserved game of the year, not Gears!

Oblivion got game of the years at most award shows maybe like 90% anyway.
It's only "short" if you play through on Casual or co-op. It took me about 12 hours on Hardcore by myself... par for the course for a shooter.

Took me 5 on hardcore and about 8 on Insane.
thanks guys..... i guess i will waite for a price drop for the console
and game lol

5 hours on your first try? Did you never die?
It's great while it lasts. Me and AJJets finished insane in about 8-9 hours.
5 hours on your first try? Did you never die?
5 hours is a long time if you time it out.
I think it took me and a friend about that long on hardcore.

Yeh on co-op I can see it happening, but by yourself? I call bull****. DOM dieing because he keeps running into dark areas for the Kryll to swoop at him will add time on along with all of the other stupid **** he's programmed to do.
To answer the question, I loved the SP portion of this game. MP sucks ass though. Its not tactical at all (as it should be), its just a run and gun shotgun fest. IMO, its worth it.

To be brief it is short but extremely fun.
To be a little more long winded it was a really fun story, and had a lot of potential, but in the end it was too short, and had too little "background story" to really please a true gamer. It certainly makes you want to buy the second one cause you know the story will get more in-depth.
Just because the game is short doesn't mean is not worth it. In fact the game that is probably the best ps2 game ever is only about 10 hours long. In the end is about enjoying the game wich i can guarantee that you will enjoy the game.

DUDE the game was so easy, let Dom bleed you don't have to rush out and save him.
The single player is one of the greatest storylines I have ever played. It kept me begging for me. (I beat it in a day and a half if that tells you anything) I played it through all three difficulties. The game averages 10-12 hours depending on difficulty setting.

actually you're completely wrong there - the game is anything but shallow. you go on the internet without completing the single player game on at least hardcore and youll get owned. why? because the control system is actually deeper than most. it takes along time to master - at least relative to a 'shallow' fps' like resistance (and i like fps' - but relatively their control schemes are shallow). you won't fully appreciate gears until you've got close to completing it on hardcore - only then will you realise how to play the game properly.
the game has far more substance than you realise because you haven't given it the time it deserves. granted its not as good as people make out, but then again neither's resistance.

Beat the game on co-op in both Casual and Hardcore then started Insane then I finally got bored. tried online, don't even know where to begin. So I won't.
going back to Halo 2 online this weekend, a proper 9.6.
If you want a great multiplayer game and a great community, get R6:Vegas.

Kept you busy from the 4th to the 10th April though (according to your gametag achievements). I personally don't think that's too bad a return for a FPS. Especially given you decided to play through the campaign twice.

OK the storyline is boring but the game is very fun and diverse. Definitely worth about 8 hours of your life. Though I think I spent twice as much finishing the game.
If its too easy for you there is always harder dificulty, right?
Not worth the buy for singleplayer only.Finished all of the difficulties in 6-7 hours alone.Rent it, get a friend and co-op - best part of the game. The bersekers are the funnest part.

I agree. I played through it on hardcore first, liked it so much I played it on insane after I unlocked it. Then a few months later I went through it a third time in the co-op mode. I have NEVER played a game that many times through before. While it is short it's still a fun expierence.

The game is great fun but it all ends just when you really get involved with it. I expected a much longer game to be honest.
bah forget about the Single player is average at best is all about MP and CO-OP.

The singleplayer is crap imo, after you've played the first level you've pretty much played them all, and it's way too short. The AI stinks, the enemies ducks then shoot, and that's all they can do, and your friends, they die with the same, especially when you're against General Raam. The story also sucks, actually it's close to being non-existant, and the short part that is there is not interesting.

I had fun with it. Little short, wish it had more of a story. But all in all good game good buy.

First of all no it doesn't, second off why are you comparing a TPS control to an FPS control? What the hell are you talking about I haven't played Gears enough ASK KNUCKS and HALF the other members I've played with I've played the game a helluva lot to know its worth. Resistance on the other hand is much better than it is said to be it's simply a more complete game.

you said the game was shallow - its not relative to others - it takes along time to master - especially incomparison to the game YOU made reference to: resistance.
you compared gears to resistance (tps to fps) first, so don't give me that ****.
and anyone with any experience of GRAW would know that your comparison to that game devalues the entirety of your post. I bet you think the original GRAW is better don't you?

Pretty stale singer player ... and multiplayer too. But its what it is. Nothing new or different just real good looking with a pretty good soundtrack. Horrible storyline, bland enemies, almost no bosses to speak of, very scripted and predictable. But its GoTY material somehow.

Short but sweet. I must of played through it about 6 times by now. There's a fair few moments during the game too that give you the option of picking 1 of 2 possible ways to go, which does help in terms replayability.
I dont think I've ever played a game 6 times through btw. Not sure if that tells me that it is too short, or it's just brilliant. I think it's a bit of both really. But still, it's worth the buy.

COMPARED QUALITY NOT CONTROL SCHEME Don't be a TARD! The game is shallow not my fault your "I love cliffy" goggles cloud your vision. It doesn't take ANY TIME to master A does EVERYTHING REMEMBER?! All you do is run around playing Russian Roulette with the shotgun so please argue it and make my damn day.
I'd say it takes eight to ten hours to complete. The campaign is thrilling and there are few (if at all) dull spots or any parts that feel like "filler". This game has intense, and epic battles with some chilling and creepy elements sprinkled on top too. Its great alone and even more of a blast with a friend in Co-op over Xbox Live.
