View Full Version : When Spiderman 3 and Pirates hit Blu-Ray
Will Spiderman 3 and Pirates when released at Blu-Ray make a great gap sales between HD-DVd and Blu-Ray ???
yes, of course, since these movies won't be released on HDDVD.

No - just them 2 films will not make much difference. The gap may increase slightly, but not a major one.
In my opinion, I would not waste my money on Spidey 3, went to the cinema to see it and was greatly disappointed.
There are a few movies that I would be prepared to get on blu-ray because of price. Animation movies and action movies like Spidey and Pirates. I'm especially looking forward to getting Spidey 3 as I saw it at the cinema in "4k" and it was unbelieveable.
Other than 1080p and the uncompressed audio, BD doesn't offer any exclusives over the DVD versions. Since I don't have a 1080p TV and Sony has yet to resolve the downscale problem of the PS3's BD movie player, I don't think there's any incentive for me to get the BD versions of those movies. Actually, I won't be buying them on DVD either since I'm just going to see it in theaters. Already saw Spidey 3, loved it, but at the same time I was slightly disappointed. I also have my expectations set really high for Pirates 3.

These franchises will. Not just a specific movie out of them but all 6 will.

That's what I was thinking. Just the two movies probably wouldn't have too big of an impact. But looking at spidy 1,2,3 and plus the two pirates movies soon to come out, I would think that it has the possibility of making a decent impact on the market.

SO other than a HUGELY improved picture and sound, it doesn't have any advantages over the DVD version. I don't have a 1080p screen either, but I can watch my blu ray films in 1080i... I don't undertand why this is a problem for people - they still look fantastic!
The point of the original post is that these films are going to generate a big gap in the BD v HDDVD market, and they will be huge sellers, regardless of anyones personal opinion of them. Whether you are excited about Pirates 3 or not, will not have an impact on the huge anticipation for this franchise, nor it's sell through potential on whatever format it comes out on (BD and DVD). The fact they are not available on HDDVD is a HUGE blow to the format. Pirates is pretty much the best selling DVD franchise ever made, and I know... why would people want to buy the BD version if they have the DVD? Same reason people will rebuy Star Wars, The Matrix, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.
Put it this way - given the choice, would you buy Spiderman 3 on DVD or BD?
Oh wait - why am I asking? If you say DVD you're lying or an idiot.
In a way i kind of think that Spider Man 3 would be a "hit" on blue-ray after all SONY is behind it, so i wouldt be surprise if u see a Bundle : Spider-Man in every PS3, but then im not sure, and as for Pirates, idk it might sell good, but probably not, but Dont forget GET YOUR PIRATES 1 & 2 In Blue-Ray In next week or so.
Sony should have included Spiderman 1 and 2 Blu-rays for the PS3 launch. Would have shown off a lot more than T.N.s. That way, they would have 2 of the movies and would want to buy the third on Blu-ray as well.

Are you kidding??? What was the fastest selling DVD last year??? I'm sure this will happen.
once spiderman boxset and pirates and shrek box set comes out its game over. people will be like. " hd-dvd???"
I think that if any one or two movies could have an impact its these two, which were both huge sellers on DVD. This, coupled with the fact that I read that Universal is coming over to BD, means that HDDVDs days might be numbered.

It's funny... Toshiba and Microsoft have everything resting on Matrix, movies that are being planned for Bluray as well... Sony and Disney have everything resting on their own movies which will never be on HD-DVD... I wonder which one will win? Timed-exclusive (Matrix) or exclusive (Spidey and Pirates)
Hmm...
