FW 2.0 release notes fake? Sony denies FW update for PS3?

Strange. We're not really sure how to take this bit of info, but it seems as if yesterday's "Sneak Peek" (http://www.qj.net/RUMOR-or-potential-SNEAK-PEEK-Firmware-2-0-now-with-in-game-XMB-/pg/49/aid/92344) of the PS3's (http://ps3.qj.net/FW-2-0-release-notes-fake-Sony-denies-FW-update-for-PS3-/pg/49/aid/92442#) FW 2.0 changelog was nothing but a rumor after all. Or is it? The news comes from EuroGamer, who says that Sony (http://ps3.qj.net/tags/sony/880)'s been all hush-hush about the leaked notes that've been doing rounds over online forums and sites.

According to EuroGamer, Sony's (http://ps3.qj.net/FW-2-0-release-notes-fake-Sony-denies-FW-update-for-PS3-/pg/49/aid/92442#) only statement regarding this issue is that they're dismissing the leakage as "speculation." Details of this dismissal from Sony are sketchy, and it seems that only EuroGamer has reported on it. To what extent is the mysterious "FW2.0 changelog" (http://ps3.qj.net/-UPDATED-PlayStation-3-firmware-1-70-available-now-/pg/49/aid/89830) debunked by Sony? If the release notes are just "speculation," then that means what exactly (http://ps3.qj.net/PlayStation-3-users-petitioning-for-in-game-XMB-access/pg/49/aid/88871)?

If there's anything good to come out of this (and if we take EuroGamer for their word on it), then there's but one thing positive about Sony's statement. They denied the changelog as speculation... But they didn't deny the fact that they're coming out with a firmware update (http://ps3.qj.net/category/Firmware/cid/2999). There's a bit of difference there. And as far as we're concerned, we're still going to have to play the Rumor card again.

hmm interesting... I have a good feeling that Sony really is putting out the update at some point, but they're still making adjustments to what all will be added..

well, that update did seem a little too good to be true =/ ... hopefully the part about getting an in-game xmb wasnt a rumor!

I think it's all rumor. Firmware 2.0 will be released with Home I think.

Even if it was partially true I bet it was tid-bits of info on stuff they are working on to be released by 2.0 maybe. I think that would explain today how everyone is kinda being funny about it. I really doubt that they would go from 1.7-2.0 since they are yet to even skip a .10.. Hopefully we will see some of the good stuff will be implemented by 2.0, but even if it is 2.0 surely won't relese this month maybe 1.8

Its of common knowledge FW 2.0 IS coming out, eventually. What Sony 'denied', IMO, is that it will contain all that things...at least that they will all be included in taht single FW upgrade.

But I think the things on the update were pretty much on the spot and may be very well possible. Only time will tell I guess ;)
