Yah Have fun.
Did you remember to get a HDMI cord?
Enjoy. I have both and I love 'em. Either way would have been a good choice.
Just get the system with the games you want, and if you are looking for a BD player then I guess you choice is all the more easier.

I really think you'll be pleased with your PS3 purchase. At first it may seem to be a close contest, but after you realize how much the PS3 offers, I think you'll come to the realization that it was the best choice overall. Welcome to the family ;)

I would say Great move man I have both an I love my PS3 a lot more mainly cause I have had a lot of problems with my x360 an I still like it a lot but keeping this one (3rd one) in the box till Halo 3 comes out.
I am glade I got my ps3 mainly cause I love games an I am a Movie nut an LOVE the blu-ray player being built in an with all these firmware updates coming out soon I won't even need my PC. I will be able to do , watch , play , hear just about anything on it the web on the PS3 is ok but I have a feeling it will get fixed / changed for the better in future updates. ;)
Welcome to the family dude, and i can't wait till this happens with me man:(

Good choice. I think the ps3 is the best choice in the long run. Atm it maybe look close, but all the stuff coming later this year will kick the 360 to the past.

I would have swore at the gamestop R-tards. I get annoyed when i know the best game for a certain genre, and when i ask for assistance the shop asistant either choses the most expensive game or sell you something from another console other then SONY.
I think a lot of thoes employees are shocked when they find out people actually own a PS3! wow.

When I was hunting for a PS3, the EB store I went to wanted me to get a 360 and told me why I had to get one. I was beyond pissed off at this! I mean, I have $850 to spend for a PS3 and rest of what I needed at the time (I already had component and HDMI cables) and those idiots wanted to force feed me a 360 so it could turn into a brick within a year.
They were out of stock at EB and even if they had any in stock, I would have walked out. I got my system from Target instead.

I must admit that I have been having similar feedback from EB games and Gamestop that is pro 360. I do not have my PS3 yet, but I like to check into the stores to see what is new and things along those lines. Now, I will knock on wood before I say this. They complain about exclusives. Sony still has Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Lair, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Gran Tarismo 5. If you notice, each Sony console has been powered by different exclusives. The first one had Metal Gear Solid's start to stardom and it also had Final Fantasy 7. Tomb Raider was a huge exclusive and even Spyro the dragon did well in my opinion. For the Playstation 2. We heard this same talk about how Sony's system is too expensive(It shattered records) and how they wouldn't have exclusives. Metal Gear continued. Devil May Cry debuted. God of War debuted. Sony has already done a good job of thinking towards the future. In my opinion, it may be because 360 sales are low and they are trying to get in as many as possible before the PS3 takes off. The 360 has been out eight months more, they should have more games out. Outside of Gears of War, Dead Rising(doesn't look the best but much fun) and Lost Planet(I hear that it is great) the 360 does not have that many solid exclusives either.

Hello all. I am kinda PS3-handicapped ATM so bear with me, as I have a few questions. I would have made a new thread, but it wouldn't let me.
Just within the last few weeks, I have gone all out and spent over $2,000 for home entertainment purposes. I got myself a Samsung 32" LNT-3253H LCD...and when I got this I just couldn't use it without some sweet HD going through it! So I bought a 60GB PS3, with R:FOM. and The Fifth Element on Blu_Ray.
I am using HDMI for video, and optical for audio. All combined with a audiophile speaker system(that I already had).
So far I absolutely love the PS3! R:FOM just looks absolutely breathtaking in 720P, and the Blu-ray movie I got almost made me faint due to how awesome it all looks on my new TV. I have never seem such brilliance and vibrant colors.
Anyway, I am not all technologically handicapped. I have plenty of fun electronic gadgetry that I just love to tweak with and get the most out of them as I can. I have PSP as well, that I managed to hack the crap out of before I got bored of it.
Anyway, down to the point. As I have been browsing through this forum for about a week now, reading through all the thousands of posts of awesome information. I have come to realize...that it would take me months to figure out all the in's and outs of the PS3 and all the fun software that works with it to give as many options as possible for the best PS3 experience.
So I come here to hopefully, get a basic rundown of some programs I can use with the PS3, either internally, or externally though my computer. I know there is way too much to explain in one post. But a good general overview of things I can download and use would be really useful.
Also, I've been reading about the 1.8 FW(which I will download tonight.) And it all sounds pretty awesome! Cause I tried playing GTA: San Andres and it looked absolutely horrid! It was worse than if I was to play it via my PS2 and normal yellow video cable. So I am hoping the upscaling on FW 1.8 will fix this issue, because I was very disappointed, and couldn't even play the game due to how bad it looked.
Anyway, sorry for the long post, but I feel I must introduce myself, since I wish to be back here and learning as much as I can about all the great features of the PS3.

first off there is no lack of 3rd party support.just about everygame the 360 has from 3rd party is coming to the ps3 sooner ot later. second all of sonys first party titles look way better than anything except mayb gears on the 360.im so sick and tired of evryone talking about lack of games.i can remember when evryone on the web and gamestop were laughing cause the number one title on the 360 for a long time was geometry wars.new consoles take time to get there games out.its been no different since i have been gaming. i know whats out there now but more importantly i know whats COMING!!!!!!

There is also no point in spending your money on the 360 if you don't even know if you can use it in the future.
1. First the many problems with the system itself, Red Eye, scratching of the disk, overhearting. That's what many that I know with a 360 had to go through. It was like an outbreak. Have we seen such an outbreak with the PS3? No.
2. 1080p Emulator, HD-DVD add-on, The Elite, 50 dollars per year(which can effect you if you ever have emergencies with your checking account) for games that aren't very impressive for next gen either. I don't even know if my original 360 would be up to speed in a few months with all of the add-ons that Microsoft is putting out. Do I have this problem with the PS3. No. Built in Blu Ray, HDMI output, Free online.
3. Once Halo 3 comes through, and to be honest, it does not look very impressive, what will the 360 bring to me as far as exclusives? Can I get exclusive sports games? No. Can I get an exclusive racing game that can match Gran Tarismo? No. All I may be able to get is Gears of War 2.
4. Lack of games huh? Virtua Fighter 5 may be going multi, but it has not been release for the 360 just yet. Resistance Fall of Man. MLB 07 The Show. Ninja Gaiden Sigma right around the corner. I am sure that others can name one or two more. In comparison to Lost planet, Dead Rising, and Gears of war. The amount of games look closer to me. Everything else is multi. Why do I want to buy a system with nearly the same amount of Quality exclusives as a system released eight months later?
Would you be willling to throw away $400?

That seems rather short sighted.. Some people dont have thousands to blow on gaming and will choose a system they feel will meet their needs for years to come. I won't drive to a car lot and buy a convertible just because its summertime..

That's why I stopped working at GS long time ago. I couldn't handle the BS. You made a good choice. Even after this recent firmware update my money just felt that much more well spent, even though i bought mine on launch. It runs flawlessly even after being on for a few days, and I can't stop playing Warhawk when I'm around the damn thing. I know not everybody can play it yet, but I'm just letting you know that its SO DAMN ADDICTING! Also being able to stream videos and songs from my computer is a major plus. For one of the finest most clear pictures a BD has to offer, check out Planet Earth. I know its just a documentary, but the picture is just so damn clear that it's actually interesting. Haha, actually, I find it interesting anyways, but the picture does make it like 100x better. Hope you enjoy your PS3 even half as much as I do, because you'd still be a satisfied customer.

You have a warranty when purchasing electronics. Whats a 1080p emulator? There are plenty of games ahead for both systems.
If both system have nearly the same number of exclusives, why would you pay so much more?

If you searched around this forum more you'd see PS3 has nearly twice as many exclusives coming out. You'd also know that a lot of the people that were bad mouthing the PS3 that get paid to do it have changed their mind and said things like they've seen games on the PS3 that won't be able to run on the 360.

I'm a new gamer to the PS family, not sure what's a edge card. my last console was a nintendo in the 80s. started playing pc games since voodoo card, then lost interests about gefore 6xxx time. PS3 is really my 2nd console. 1.8 firmware really made me put the money down. I use a spare computer to watch downloaded contents on tv, with PS3, streaming is really a killer feature for me. I thought about xbox 360 too but I chose PS3 because it's a more complete package for the long run. I don't care I have to spend a few hundreds in the beginning. I don't have to pay online sub, wifi adapter, and other add-ons right now and in coming future to upgrade xbox on par to PS3.

I thought about xbox 360 too but I chose PS3 because it's a more complete package for the long run. I don't care I have to spend a few hundreds in the beginning. I don't have to pay online sub, wifi adapter, and other add-ons right now and in coming future to upgrade xbox on par to PS3.
the edge card is like a credit card that gamestop puts all your credit on untill you wanna spend it.you see most of what i spent was on the card so that was the only way i was goint to be able to get a ps3.i wouldnt have been able to use ebay.
a. Noone can make the claim the same number of exclusives are coming to both systems because that would be a lie. <br />

gratz on the new PS3 Curtis hope you enjoy, feel free to add me to your friends list if ya want
sure will in the am im off to bed...dreams of ninja gaiden and heavenly sword and ....well you get the picture.....
Im not sure what is BS here. If you were completely unbiased, looking at the two consoles and their support, you'd come to the same conclusion.
This one?
Well the the number of games currently out for the 360 doesn't reflect it's support
As most are western based games
The Playstation 3 still has more japanese support then 360, but that obvious because of the lack of success in japan
but if you look at the monthly world-wide sales both console have you'll know that PS3 actually out sells the 360, so when will support increase to PS2 standards?
at the moment it wont effect games support on either format because the 360 has the "default" lead
but the Playstation 3 doesn't need to out sell the 360's total userbase
if the Playstation 3 has a larger userbase in Japan & europe, developers will start supporting the Playstation 3 even more
I see this happening in 08
I almost made it through the alphabet for reasons why the PS3 is a worthwhile purchase. The fact of the matter is, yes you do pay more. You also get a whole lot more.

you work for MS don't you or maybe you own stock in the company. Either way why do you care what someone buys. This is a thread about someone buying a PS3 and being happy about it. Its not, "why you should have bought an 360" so stop derailing this thread and get lost.

So they want to spend money on an addon HD DVD player to make it cost more than a PS3? Or pay for online and have it cost more than a PS3? They don't want HD gameplay with HDMI? I don't see the quality of PS3's online questionable. Everybody that has it is enjoying their online experience, and a lot of them even browse these forums with their PS3. You're digging yourself into a hole that you'll never be able to get out of. I'd suggest to stop posting already.

Uh-huh. So, the fact that the machine has a better output spec than some peoples HDTVs is somehow a negative? It only proves the system is exactly the beast it was promised to be. And so what if people do or do not want a BD player? The games are putting it to use, so how does it hurt?
Look, we've already seen the playbook.. You can diminish the PS3 all you want and that is perfectly fine. What I did was answer the question though. Why pay more? I say, why pay as much? There are so many people out there who have rushed out to buy HD-DVD addons, Live fees, and had to replace their 360s even more than once that for some people the question itself is an absurdity.
I could have left it at the letter A and be done with it. But that's not what the PS3 is all about. We have a whole generation to decide who cares about what. Feature for feature and pound for pound, the PS3 is a wise choice though for someone who isn't crapping money and wants to get it right the first time around. People could buy cheap knockoff MP3 players but they choose iPOD. People could easily drive Ford with their liberal financing and cheaper prices, but Toyota is crushing the competition. Let's not be hasty and talk about advantages being negatives until the dust clears. We don't sit here and try to figure out why Unified Shaders may be a disadvantage or question why a triple core processor may not appeal to consumers. That's pretty much tantamount to tapping your heels together and saying there's no place like home. You can't just wish technology away or speak for everyone, especially if said system is getting annihilated by the Wii as well. The average person is singing a different tune right now and the pro-XBox fanbase doesn't necessarily have their finger on the pulse as much as they'd love to dictate otherwise. Again, we have a whole generation to see whats ahead.

Dont insult, its against forum rules. This is the trouble with having a conversation on these forums, you're labeled everything under the sun for daring to question anything. Go back and read my initial post, I never questioned his purchase, I questioned his bagging of the employees for what they said. If you cant handle this in a mature manner, please dont reply.

You took my points the wrong way, if they dont have an HDTV, they dont want BD or HD-DVD, its that simple. Your statement that games are using BD is half and half, they are using it, but is it giving is anything?

Well, in a few years time that wont be the case due to federal guidelines and increasing proliferation. Last holiday season, HDTVs outsold CRTVs for the first time ever. It's not a matter of if the average joe is going to have HDTV and want content, but more a matter of when.
And hey, hats off to the 360 for getting in on the action earlier than Sony. We'll see how the strategy pays off. It is what it is.

Never knew it was an insult to work for MS or have stock in the company but ok lol you have been here on these forums for 2 days so don't talk about how hard you have it, having a conversation on these forums. And yes you pretty much said he should have listen to the EB staff and bought a 360 even tho he didn't want it.

I didnt 'pretty much say' anything. I either said it, or I didnt. It doesnt bother me one iota that he bought a PS3, its his money.

This is true, however they only have five years to do it, to make any difference in our scenario. Being that its taken decades to get this far, it'll be a struggle.

With only 36 posts you haven't had much conversations on these forums anyways. Unless you remade your name because you were known as a FUD poster. Lefein did the honor of posting as to why pay so much, and you still continue about why not.
I used to work as Gamestop employee, and basically, we're told what to push and what not to push. Doesn't mean they are right. It also doesn't mean that most Gamestop employees are complete fanboys themselves, I worked alongside one of the biggest xbots I've ever met, and he couldn't take into consideration the facts that I would give him about the other console(s). Does having such employees benefit real gamers that come into that store to purchase a game, when they would question them about their purchase and try to persuade them to a different purchase?
People may not want a BD player, but with the probability of it becoming the next format why wouldn't they just take the bonus of having it? You cannot deny the fact that people are buying the HD-DVD add on and still say that the 360 is cheaper. And if you weren't questioning the PS3's reliability in online play, then why use that as an example of why people wouldn't want it and would rather pay?
No, you told me to get lost.

then wdf are you posting about, yes get lost if all your doing is trolling and looking for a fight. If you really don't care then just stop posting and derailing a thread that has nothing to do with you or your views on the ps3. So I stand by my statement of get lost if you have nothing REAL to add to this thread

You dont need much time on here to see how things roll.
What you described sounds like an extreme compared to what the original poster described. They employees he spoke of only stated that there was more support for the X360 at this time, which is hard to refute.
BD probably will be the standard, but I wouldnt call it a bonus when you're paying for it. The HD-DVD add on is cheaper compared to stand alone players, but not the PS3 with its BD player. its probably wise to keep the formats separate.
Lefein said paying more for the PS3 made sense due to its reliability, I then replied that people pay for Live to its quality.

We're slowly coming to the same page here. I understand what the OP described isn't as extreme as what I said, but I'm just stating as a former employee of what happens. Also, I'll give credit that the 360 has more support right now, it would be sad if it didn't with its years head start.
The add-on isn't exactly cheaper when you paid $400 for the 360 plus $200 for the player.
The last part was a misunderstanding on my part of why you made that point.

Well i just returned from gamestop with my new sexy beast!....had one problem though,i walked in said i want a ps3 and there were 3 employees and they all froze and said sorry with the lack of games and 3rd party support we can not reccomend you the ps3.get the 360 they said....
what you should have done is ask to see if the manager was working and have them bring him/her out. Then tell the manager that you were about to give their store around 600 dollars but because of those 3 sales associates you will not. If you had the money in cash you could wave the bills at em to really rub salt in the wound. More than likely, you wouldnt see those 3 employees the next time you went back (if you ever did)

If only that could actually happen. One of the 3 employees that referred to buying a 360 instead probably was a manager. If not and the manager was in the back, they probably would have came out and said yes I agree you should buy a 360 instead. It's just how that company works.
Welcome aboard to the real 'elite'. :D
Amen, the 360 is just a spray painted premium slapped on with a 120gb and HDMI. Other than that no improvement in reliability, and by the end of the year it should have a better library of games over the 360 so those guys at gamestop don't know what they are talking about.

I don't get this "lack of games" thing; does quantity over quality really mean that much to people?
I mean, Oblivion alone will take me 'till (next) Christmas to get through, by which time there will be more good games around.
Just how many games is enough?? In the meantime, what's wrong with the PS2 library?
If I want a break, I watch movies, not play games.
