Chris Paul reminded everyone who is the PG of now and future tonight. So much for that big Dallas trade. Sorry Mavs fans, nothing personal but your owner is a total whiny snob of a dickhead. His attitude kills that whole team. They need to trade him for a few ball boys.

I thought that trade helped a lot more the Nets than did the Mavericks, I don't understand why get Kidd?
If Dallas Mavericks have been playing the same style of game for years and Kidd isn't going to change anything, IMO they just got older.
The Lakers just beat The Suns.

The Laker suns games was one of the best games of the season. I have been waiting for a good game. All the games lately have been blowouts. Good job suns....atleast you were a challenge.
BTW did you guys see Shaq elbow Raja Bell. He has like golf ball size bruise on his head now.
Yeh, that Lakers game was a blast to watch. My Miami team beat Duke tonight too WOOHOO

Yeah..it's not like this was his first game with a brand new team after only 1 practice with them or anything...

Missed 98% of the game because I was not home. There was a very nice Lakers crowd. Wait till Bynum comes back.
Kobe doesn't need 10 fingers. 9 will do him just fine! Give him the **** MVP!!! And for the first time I actually agree with Tim Legler on the Lakers.
Oh and Phil Jackson should have taken a time out and pointed 3 fingers at D'Antoni, and said...."what now *********"....Rivalry is ON!!
Yeah..it's not like this was his first game with a brand new team after only 1 practice with them or anything...So very true. Let him get acquainted with the players, and they "SHOULD" improve. But like someone mentioned...getting rid of Diop was a huge mistake.

That reminds me of what he did to the lakers earlier this season when Kobe got hurt. :(

pfft, look at Gasol, he came in and produced great numbers on his first game...and has not stopped since. i believe he only had one practice with the team as well.
How many times have the Lakers played San Antonio this season and what was the outcome? I don't remember them playing at all to be honest. I wanna see how well they match up against the Spurs. But my gut tells me that they'll be in the Western Conference Finals at the least.

They have played.......I think 2 times and the series is even. SA got Kurt Thomas to increase their front court, so when Parker comes back healthy, and the Lakers get Bynum back, now that will be interesting/real test.
NBA News:
Houston/New Orleans
The Rockets on Wednesday agreed to send guards Bonzi Wells and Mike James to the Hornets for guard Bobby Jackson.
The deal is still pending league approval and it sounds like the Rockets will also get Adam Haluska from the Hornets and a conditional second-round pick, while the Memphis Grizzlies will receive the rights to Marcus Vinicius to make the deal work financially. The big news here is that Bonzi appears to be an obvious choice to replace struggling shooting guard Morris Peterson in New Orleans. It's not guaranteed to happen, but we're recommending that Wells be scooped up in most instances. Jackson is slated to back up starting point guard Rafer Alston in Houston.
Why would you do this if your the Rockets? Makes no sense to me. Also, the trade is waiting league approval.
Dallas:
Josh Howard returned from a sore back on Wednesday, but was clearly still bothered by the injury as he hit just 2-of-11 shots for eight points in 36 minutes.
He's going to continue to receive treatment on his back and try to play through it, but he didn't look like he was moving at full speed tonight. At least he's playing through the injury after missing his last two games.
This is true. Gasol to the Lakers is undoubtedly bigger than Shaq to the Suns, but don't forget Shaq basically hasn't played in a month.
They were talking about Jason Kidd. J-Kidd has to get used to the offense. Remember Scape, Kidd is now the "Floor General" (as they like to say). He has to know where his team mates will be and what they can do. So he needs a couple of games to get used to it. Now if he continues to have trouble, then Dallas is in real trouble. Even though I don't see Big D' a threat to the Lakers, especially with a depleted front court.
As for Gasol, everyone has said that the triangle offense is made for big men. Besides, all Gasol needed to do was become a low post player and not take on so much responsibility since he is now a second/third option on the Lakers.

Ok Ok, my fault. I assumed we were talking about Lakers/Suns still. Boy am I redfaced
Uhh.... pretend it never happened.
^^ Its cool. I thougt Barbosa got hit in the head and not Bell. I was wrong after checking the replay.
Wonder if UndecideD has seen what Houston is about to do? I can't figure out why you would trade a player like Bonzi Wells for a back up PG? How does it make you better? And to think I was going to say Houston was a threat, now I really don't see that.
As a Lakers fan (if any of you didn't know :) ) I only see the Spurs, Jazz, and now Hornets as the real threat. And Fedos could be right. Spurs vs. Lakers in West Finals.
The Best part of all these trades. LAKERS are the only team that not only got stronger for this season, but for years to come. If Bynum can come back healthy and fit right in with Gasol, the Lakers could have one of the greatest Dynasty in history. [Chils goes down my spine].
Sorry for the Lakers talk...back to the Rockets. WTF is wrong with you!!! Big Man needed...not back up PG!
Oh please no Spurs in the West finals. They are so boring to watch and I'm just so tired of hearing about how "Pops" raised Tim Duncan from when he came out his mother's womb and oh Manu is the greatest player ever and OH LOOK there's the chick from desperate housewives ZZZZZZZZ..... Lakers - Suns greatest West finals ever.
Huge news for the Cavs:
Ben Wallace is watching Thursday's practice and we're hearing rumors that the Bulls are trying to work a trade with the Cavaliers before this afternoon's trade deadline. According to ESPN.com, the Bulls would received Larry Hughes and Drew Gooden in exchange for Wallace, Chris Duhon and Joe Smith.
The Cavaliers were also reportedly talking to the Heat about Shawn Marion, but both of these speculated deals are unlikely to come to fruition. Anything that is happening will come to light in the next few hours, so check back soon.
It is not official yet, but Ric Bucher of ESPN is reporting that this deal involving Ben Wallace will go through.
More Info: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=stein_marc&page=TradeTalk-080221
Edit: Deal is Official
The Cleveland Cavaliers (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=cle) appear to have beaten the NBA's annual trade buzzer to get LeBron James (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3704) some of the fresh help he's been openly craving.
In a three-way trade with Chicago and Seattle that has been submitted for league approval, NBA front-office sources say that Cleveland will come away with four new teammates for James, headlined by Ben Wallace (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3149) from the Bulls and sharpshooter Wally Szczerbiak (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3329) from the Sonics.
The league office was notified of the deal before Thursday's 3 p.m. ET trading deadline, sources said, and is currently reviewing the trade details as required for formal approval.
After Cleveland watched two longstanding trade targets land elsewhere -- Mike Bibby (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3245) in Atlanta and Jason Kidd (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=2625) in Dallas -- sources say that the deal calls for the Cavaliers to receive Wallace, Szczerbiak, Seattle point guard Delonte West (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3841), Chicago's Joe Smith (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3003) and a future second-round pick from the Bulls.
The Bulls, apparently abandoning their gamble on Wallace less than two seasons into the lucrative four-year deal they used to sign him away from Detroit, would get Cavaliers forward Drew Gooden (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3602) and swingman Larry Hughes (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3251) along with Cavs reserves Cedric Simmons (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=4143) and Shannon Brown (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=4153).
The Sonics, shedding Szczerbiak in the name of additional payroll flexibility, come away with the expiring contracts of Cleveland's Ira Newble (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3466) and Chicago's Adrian Griffin (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3394) as well as Cavs veteran Donyell Marshall (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=2627).

you're a funny guy :D
Also I don't really like the Rockets trade, Bonzi can be great at times(but also makes the worst turnovers). I really want to see how it turns out (how Jackson plays).
After I think about it a back up pg was needed because I don't think Brooks is ready to take that(steve francis is out) and Luther head is not really a pg, other than that has anyone heard of the other people that the rockets got?
Hopefully it works out alright.
Can't wait for tonights game.

-Wasn't that Mike James role?
-and nope, never heard of the other guy.
As for the Cavs trade: Pretty good deal. They got rid of Hughes for Wally, Gooden for Ben, and got West as a PG. Now they can really compete in the East. If Wallace can now get motived (ala Shaq), the Cavs become a huge threat, and could have one of the best front court line ups.

when he was brought in, yes. Every time he got some playing time he would ruin it though, with horrible shooting and decision making, which is why he hasn't even been in the rotation for a while.
In terms of what Cleveland did, Chauncey could never play well against Larry Hughes so that aspect of the Cavalier trade is great from a Piston fan perspective. Ben Wallace might be invigorated playing with Lebron James. Should be interesting to see if the Cavs can solidify themselves past Orlando for number 3 in the East with this deal, they were pretty close to them last I checked.
This is the most wheeling and dealing I have ever seen, when it comes to big names. Man, I am just excited with all this happening. The NBA just got more interesting, and fun to watch again. This will be the best playoff year, and I can't wait!
guess what the magic did......NOTHING AT ALL
We did not get our truly needed PF. Otis says he likes the team as it is but we'll see how we do in the playoffs.....
I mean the main threats are Boston and Pistons, The cavs even with this trade did not get that much better. They helped themselves get some cap room mainly. Big Ben lately has been playing DECENT, but he gives you shot blocking thats about it, no offense whatsoever.
Wally can shoot but hes really overrated. Joe smith is just another big body that is pretty much a worse Drew Gooden.
Wow. Thats all I can say after the Lakers Suns game. Truly incredible, and easily one of the best games in the regular season for quite a while. Well, let me address a few things in this post.
1) Deadline Trades
None of these really made any sense. Cleveland doesn't get a whole lot better from these trades. Yeah, getting rid of always injured Larry Hughes helps, but Ben Wallace and Joe Smith aren't outstanding upgrades. I did like the Hornets trade, because it gives them a better shooter and more depth, but honestly, the only true winner in these trades is the Sonics. They will have SOO much free agent money, its unreal. They'll have like 3 first round picks this year, next year, and at least 2 in 2010. Great job done by the GM in Seattle.
2) The Lakers
Okay, I've always known this, but I'll make it official, especially coming from a Suns fan. The Lakers are really **** tough. They have a great lineup, and Kobe is officially the best player on the planet. They looked really good, but I do see a few flaws. Ronny Turiaf is young, but I am not really impressed. Pau Gasol (some might disagree, but it happened a LOT) was bullied like a 2' tall kid at the playground. He was owned by Stoudemire and O'Neal. But of course, having Kobe and Odom at the 3 is always good.
3) The Suns
Okay, I was highly disappointed by the Suns loss, but I saw plenty of great signs. Shaq looked outstanding in his first game as a Suns member. In roughly 28 minutes played, he had 15 points and 9 boards. Not stellar, but for a first game against a team full of giants, it was impressive. Plus, I couldn't stop laughing when he dove for the ball. He must have been 16 the last time he did that. Another part that was impressive was how Shaq made Stoudemire better. With roughly 6:24 in the SECOND QUARTER, Stoudemire already had a DOUBLE-DOUBLE. Lakers fans don't want to hear this, but the analysts and fans (Lakers) were admitting that Stoudemire and O'Neal can bully Gasol. The Lakers have few flaws, but now the Suns can find out where to attack. Lastly, the Suns have a good prospect in D.J Strawberry. He didn't play much, but man, his defense against Kobe looked superb. Kobe practically mauled him in the 4th quarter, but Strawberry was impressive. It looks like he'll be a big piece in the future.
But, in that same aspect, the Suns need to play better against teams in playoff contention. If you want to pull ahead with the 1 or 2 seed, you need to do better than 5-12 ( or around there) against playoff teams. And the next 5 games aren't a walk in the park either. The Suns seriously need to make an 8-13 game win streak to get going, or else we will be looking at a **** tough matchup.

Well the thing is that Pau Gasol is not a true center. He is too soft to be a center in this league especially against centers like shaq who muscle their way into rebounds. The Suns wont have the advantage they had on the boards last night because when Bynum comes back the advantage is gone.
3) The Suns
Okay, I was highly disappointed by the Suns loss, but I saw plenty of great signs. Shaq looked outstanding in his first game as a Suns member. Negatives
Well Shaq did seem to get better in the second half but that guy is a liability on defense. Lakers ran high pick and rolls all night long and Shaq could not do a thing. This helped the lakers score a high percentage. Shaq just have made the suns defense weaker.
Shaq is also shoooting horribly from the freethrow line so he is a liability in the final minutes. He is just as foul prone. He had 5 in 29 minutes.
Positive
The area that Shaq does help them is rebounding. He was able to muscle his way into rebounds and him boxing out gave Stoudemire grab 15 rebounds. That is a deadly rebounding combination right there.
The rockets got Gerald Green

The guy is athletic as hell but is dumb as a lightbulb. This is why he was not getting any playing time.
SE just to the reply out of my fingers (HA!).
I'll be impressed with Amare when he can do that with both Bynum and Gasol in there. I already know Amare can't do anything with Bynum there, but we'll see in the playoffs, if they meet up.
Shaq did play well, but like SE said, he is still a liability. But I'll let him keep his words for now and give him those 5-6 days.
Oh, and I keep forgetting to mention: Even though I can't stand the guy, I agree 100% with Bill Walton on Shaq. Bill was never talking about Shaq's injury...Bill questioned Shaq's "Motivation". Where was that in Miami? I guarantee he would not have came back that quick for the Heat. He promised the Suns he would come early to work out...again, where was that for the Heat?

NBA News:
New Orleans:
The decision on whether Bonzi Wells and Mike James will play for the Hornets tonight will be made later on Friday depending on whether they're cleared by the league.
"All parties involved in the trade have to complete all the physical and reporting requirements,'' Hornets GM Jeff Bower said. "There are some paper work certifications that has to be sent to the league. At that point, the league will send us an e-mail stating that all players are cleared for participation.'' This is true for all of the players traded on Thursday, so consider most of them 50-50 for tonight.
Cleveland:
The Cavaliers signed F Kaniel Dickens and G Billy Thomas from the D-League on Friday.
After Thursday's blockbuster, the team was only going to have six players in uniform tonight. Now they'll have eight, although Daniels and Thomas aren't likely to help too much. The Plain Dealer referred to the pair as "warm bodies," which is appropriate in our estimation.
They won't even play. Sit on the bench and watch LeBron.
Golden State:
There are no updates on the status of Stephen Jackson's availability for Friday's game against the Hawks.
It's surprising that the only thing coming out of Oakland over the last 48 hours is that Jackson is "day-to-day." It would be a shame if he sat out tonight's game with his ankle injury, as he is set to face one of his former teams. Jackson usually plays through injuries and has already missed one game with this one. Consider him a game-time decision, but we'll hopefully have an update before then.
Atlanta:
Mike Bibby (heel) and Acie Law (wrist) missed Thursday's practice in Oakland with their injuries.
Bibby hopes to play Friday, as his heel problem has been referred to as "minor," while it would be surprising to see Law tonight. Law avoided a disaster on Wednesday when it was determined his wrist was not broken, but he could miss a few games. And while Bibby hasn't missed a game with his heel injury, he's missing valuable practice time with his new team. Consider both players game-time decisions, although it sounds more likely that Bibby will play.
Miami:
Dwyane Wade took a shot to both his surgically repaired shoulder and knee from Shane Battier in Thursday's loss to the Rockets.
The knee is the biggest concern, although Wade was able to play 40 minutes. ''I'll see [Friday],'' Wade said. ``Hopefully it doesn't swell up and I don't get sore. He hit me right on a tender spot.'' Consider him probable for his next game, but Wade is far from a picture of health right now.
Indiana:
A video posted by the Indy Star of Jamaal Tinsley working at his coat drive for charity on Sunday, Feb. 10, catches the point guard saying that he'll be out for "three weeks, right now" with his knee injury.
This is very interesting because that would put tinsley back around Sunday, March 2. It would have been nice to know this information back on Feb. 10, but it sounds like the Pacers knew long ago that he would not be available this week. Consider him out indefinitely until the Pacers finally give us an update on his status. Larry Bird has a press conference scheduled for Friday, so maybe he'll spill the beans.
They won't even play. Sit on the bench and watch LeBron.
LOL, that's a dream job are you kidding? Can you imagine getting paid a mil to have courtside seats to every game that the best or 2nd best player in the NBA plays in?
Speaking of Wade, I think its time he just sit the season out now. This season has been torture for me so far and to see him in so much pain (I saw the Battier hit last night in the knee), it just scares me to think he could screw himself up even more for absolutely no point at all.

Why I would love to be in Keith Van Horn's shoes. $4 million for one season doing absolutely nothing. Surprised he took that long to accept. I would have been..."pen....contract...NOW!"
Agreed that Wade should just sit out, or decrease his minutes. I believe Next season they can do damage if they get a low post player. Also a chance at a high draft pick wouldn't hurt. They can trade down for players, or have a pick of their next franchise player (assuming the player turns out).

I know man, I'm loving it right now.
Their offense is clicking, their defense is the best they've played all year.
They running Ricks offense, and still keeping the defense that they had when Jeff Van Gundy was here.
Also T-mac says he is starting to practice more right before game time, and it showed today.

Wow, Pheonix is playing some amazing D against the Celtics. ESPN flashed some statistic about Boston scoring their lowest point total of 30 points (I'm guessing after two quarters). Detroit was number 2 at 33 points. Hopefully they can keep it up.

Even though I hate the Celtics, I have to pull for them. I have no doubt the Lakers will beat the Clippers on Sat, but I would like to see the Suns lose.
There is some tension in the Suns/Celtics game. Couple of techs, loving it!! This is what the NBA needs. Some FIRE!
Man, nobody besides me and Fedos showing the Suns some love. Shaq was a beast today, Stoudemire had another great game, and I'm not sure about the stats, but the Suns are tops in the division. Man, nobody besides me and Fedos showing the Suns some love. Shaq was a beast today, Stoudemire had another great game, and I'm not sure about the stats, but the Suns are tops in the division. You gotta love it, especially with the Suns playing the Pistons on Sunday night. Sorry Fedos, but you know I gotta stick with my team on this win. Hopefully, this starts a 9-12 game win streak that we need.
Wow I was like ashamed of the Celtics watching the game. Everyone knows Pick and rolls are Shaq's weakness. Why the hell weren't they doing that. Doc Rivers isn't the coach I thought he was.
The Celtics might just be coming back down to Earth with the rest of the NBA teams. The beginning of their schedule favored them, the end not so much.

It should be a good game. I think we've had the Suns number for at least the last two years, but with the addition of Shaq that should make for an interesting adjustment coming from us.

Haha for you guys ^^
We have to put up with double-digit losing streaks. :(
lol I know what you mean because all my friends are Heat fans(I do live in south florida). Most of them said they weren't going to watch the games anymore.
That elbow G. Wallace took was nasty, he suffered a concussion ouch!

Amare's severe owning of Garnett after they were going at it all night was nice. Garnett's a soft marshmallow who goes to the club talking all kinds of **** and before the end of the night gets his face caved in.

Did they become a fan in 2005? It's extremely painful for me but I still watch all the Heat games on TV when I get a chance which BTW, I'll be doing this coming Thursday night (YEP the worst team in the NBA has yet ANOTHER nationally televised game lol). Watching Wade and Marion play together though makes me feel a lot better about their future. Those two really seem to be coming together quite nicely. And Dorrell Wright has really been playing good lately.

naw they were fans before, I guess it's just way too frustrating to watch your team lose over and over...and over again..
You get used to it after the season the Dolphins had  I just remember that there will be better days again one day.
Latest Addition to the Tourney: Syugo
@ Suns: Got to give Nash a whole lot of credit. He wanted that game more than anyone on the Suns or Celtics. It is seriously funny watching Shaq on the Suns. The guy gets tired real quick and you can see it. And he does that stupid run when going the other way, after a timeout or out of bounds. He has however helped Amare more. Amare is just dominating, but lets see that when Bynum gets back BABY!
@ Heat: I guarantee Wade and Marion bring some real Heat next season. If, big if...they can pick up Elton Brand in the offseason, and draft a true PG...look out for them.
That elbow G. Wallace took was nasty, he suffered a concussion ouch!
I read that this was his 3rd or 4th concussion! Never heard that many for an NBA player.

a friend of a friend had box tickets.
It was crazy.
We play the Suns tomorrow. Like I said earlier, it should be a great game. But I just saw a stat on NBA TV where they said the Pistons are plus 218 when their starting five is on the floor:shock: Man our bench is getting a workout. The Suns with their starting lineup sans Shaq was plus 32.

Wow, Pheonix is playing some amazing D against the Celtics. ESPN flashed some statistic about Boston scoring their lowest point total of 30 points (I'm guessing after two quarters). Detroit was number 2 at 33 points. Hopefully they can keep it up.
Yeah... Phoenix played a great game against a great team... And Eventhough Amare led the scoring, Shaq nailed 14 (i think) rebound to help them overcome a dominating team...
3 game loosing streak for the Celtics... this aint good for them... :(

Be careful about getting too proud. The Heat dominated the 04-05 season. Then went on to sweep the 1st round, sweep the 2nd round, and then lose to Detroit in the conference finals. Major heartbreak that season...:(

Man, I forgot all about that. Now you mentioned it...hate Bell, after that choke hold, Bell was on ESPN, Radio shows...couldn't believe he got that much attention. Well Kobe made sure he was a non factor, just like the rest of the Suns on Defense by scoring 41 on them.

Agreed, not a good thing to say. Remember those 3 years we had. The Lakers SHOULD be blowing teams out, but they scare me when they play sorry teams. Remember the Atlanta loss. Lakers have a great chance to go on 11 game winning streak. Gasol gives me more confidence that they can beat these teams, as long as they don't play down to the level, and Gasol should be very familiar with that.

We've had the Suns number for a good two years running if my memory serves me right. I felt that we'd win, but I didn't think it'd be that big of a victory, particularly with Shaq added to the equation. I wouldn't read too much into the defeat just yet, until the Suns have had more games under their belt as a team. But I think we did show why we've been at the forefront of the Eastern Conference the last five years.

Kidd with 17 assists today. Last 2 games combined he's had 32 I think. I think he's fitting in just fine in Big D :)
Real test is coming. This Thursday against the Spurs, Sunday against the Lakers, and Monday against the Jazz.
These two games against weak teams has helped him plenty. He's getting to know the team better, and what each player is capable of.
Lakers/Spurs West Finals.
Boston/Detroit East Finals.
Lakers vs Boston Finals.
Boston will get to the Eastern Conference Finals, but if they have to play Cleveland in the second round (what I'm hoping) then they'll run into Lebron James, and he'll take them to seven games easily, softening them up for a matchup with the Pistons. Either one of the above four can make it to the Finals however I feel that this is our year to get back there. What has hurt us over the years is that Flip Saunders has rode the starters all season long and hasn't developed our bench. Now we have one that can give us thirty points a night, the best bench in the East actually, and when you combine that with the best starting five in basketball you'll be hard pressed to be beat in a seven game series. Boston also doesn't have any playoff experience as a team.
whoever said Detroit was gonna stomp on PHX was correct Lol, 30 pt loss
I think alot of people feel that it will be a Lakers/Celtics final. I would rather see a Lakers/Cleveland final now. To me, LeBron has the best shot at taking out the Celtics, and not the Pistons. Pistons do have some advantage over the Celtics, mainly the PG position. Billups should dominate Rondo.
NBA News:
Portland:
Brandon Roy will have an MRI after aggravating his right ankle injury on Sunday, and sounds like he could miss significant time with the injury.
"I don't think I'll have to shut it down the rest of the season, but maybe the next couple of games," Roy said. The fact that he even mentioned being out for the rest of the season makes us nervous, but we'll have to see what the prognosis is after the MRI. In any case, it sounds like he should be benched immediately. Martell Webster and Travis Outlaw will see a boost in minutes for the near future.
Houston:
Yao Ming returned from a strained hip and finished Sunday's game with 12 points and six rebounds in 36 minutes, as the Rockets won their 12th straight game.
Yao wasn't as aggressive as coach Rick Adelman would have liked, but the hip didn't give him any trouble and he looks like a safe start next week.
Dallas:
Mavericks swingman Josh Howard finished Sunday's win over the Timberwolves with 14 points on 5-of-18 shooting and seven rebounds in 38 minutes.
Howard is shooting a ridiculous 29% in the three games since returning from a sore back, so hopefully he'll pick it up once the Mavericks head back to Dallas. Lucky for the Mavs, Dirk Nowitzki hit 10-of-15 shots and finished with 29 points, off-setting Howard's latest dud.
Toronto:
Andrea Bargnani set a career-high with five three-pointers on Sunday, finishing with 25 points on 9-of-17 shooting, seven rebounds, five assists and two blocks.
This came out of nowhere, as Bargnani was 2-of-13 over his past two games. He was aggressive from the opening tip and will be terrific once he learns how to sustain this level of energy.
Cleveland:
Ben Wallace started his first game as a Cavalier, finishing with 12 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot in 33 minutes.
Big Ben held his own and didn't seem to disrupt Zydrunas Ilguaskas, who had 22 points and 13 rebounds in 30 minutes. Joe Smith came off the bench for 14 points and six rebounds in 25 minutes, and owners should expect this arrangement to persist for the rest of the season.
Why I think Cleveland has the best shot. If Ben can do that, they are a real threat now.
Jermaine O'Neal met with doctors in New York and got encouraging news about the ongoing recovery of his left knee. He has been doing on-court conditioning and said he might be ready to play in "three to four weeks or sooner depending on the progression."
If O'Neal returned in a month he'd be just in time for the fantasy hoops finale, but his conditioning would likely prohibit him from making a very big impact. If you're scrapping to make the playoffs, you might have no choice but to dump him
He disappeared off the map. Sad to see him with these injuries because he is a great player. Bird must be thinking..."I should have taken Bynum, and not asked for so much"...:(

I know I know but those three years got me spoiled. We had so many good games from Kobe. Kobe would literally help the lakers come back from a defecit by himself. I mean I remember this time last year Kobe had like 10 games or something with 50+ points. Those games were freaking sick.
I wanna see the "new cavs" face a formidable opponent, i mean they played memphis Lol, of course the new cavs looked good.

Dallas got it done against the Bulls. OMG I love Kidd on this team. Hell, he makes Damp look like a monster (which he can be when motivated enough) 16 rebs. and 7 blocked shots. Desanga-who?
Kidd is an animal.
I may sound more excited than I should be but Jason Kidd is a deep breath of fresh air for this franchise.
Know how you feel. Felt the same way when the Lakers got Gasol.
NBA Headlines:
Portland:
Brandon Roy's ankle injury is forcing the Blazers to change their starting lineup. Coach Nate McMillan expects to start Steve Blake at point guard, Martell Webster at shooting guard, Travis Outlaw at small forward, LaMarcus Aldridge at power forward and Joel Przybilla at center on Tuesday.
This will be Outlaw's first start of the season, and he should be active in all formats for the rest of the week. Steve Blake should see a boost in assists as the team's lone point guard, while Jarrett Jack gets (temporarily, at least) bumped to the bench in favor of Martell Webster.
Miami:
Heat coach Pat Riley said that forward Udonis Haslem ''probably'' will start Tuesday's game against the Kings.
Haslem will occupy his usual power-forward spot, moving Shawn Marion to small forward and Dorell Wright to the bench.
Clippers:
The Clippers are expected to buyout Sam Cassell's contract as early as Tuesday, clearing the way for him to play for another team.
The Celtics and Suns sound like frontrunners for his services and the buyout is said to be "imminent," according to the Boston Globe. It appears Cassell has played his last game for the Clippers, but will probably be nothing more than a backup for his new team.
Bad news for the Houston Rockets, Yao is out for the rest of the season(foot fracture). I feel bad for Tracy McGrady, just when they were looking so good and were winning so many games this happens. :(

NBA Headline:
Lakers:
Jordan Farmar tied a career high with 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting in Tuesday's win over the Blazers.
Kobe Bryant hit 11-of-25 shots and a three for 30 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and two steals in Tuesday's win over the Blazers.
Golden State:
Monta Ellis' incredible shooting continued on Tuesday when he hit 14-of-22 shots for 30 points, six rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block in a win over the Sonics.
Baron Davis hit just 8-of-24 shots on Tuesday, but had 20 points, 10 assists and seven steals in a win over the Sonics.
Houston:
Rookie Carl Landry came off the bench and had 12 points and eight rebounds while playing a lot of minutes at center as the Rockets beat the Wizards on Tuesday.
Washington:
DeShawn Stevenson backed up his 33-point game with five points on 2-of-12 shooting in a blowout loss to the Rockets on Tuesday.
Stevenson failed to hit a three and the Wizards scored a franchise-low 23 points in the first half. Nick Young led the team with 18 points, while Oleksiy Pecherov had 11 points and five boards, but there's not much we can learn from this game, given the fact the Wizards were never in it.
i kinda feel the same about Luke Walton. but at times i dont mind him. he seems to make smart plays most the time and doesnt realy make many mistakes, and i do think he hustles. but as far as scoring goes he does bother me, i dont realy like seeing him take shots, allthough at times he can make some good ones. a little to streaky for me on the scoring end. with his minutes, if he could keep playing sound basketball but put up around 10 points a game i would be happy.
Wade is not that good unless he's getting helped out by the zebras.
I remember the Finals he was literally unlookable, Lol. You could not look at the guy because it was a foul. There was a play in game 5 that I will never forget. It was a foul they didn't call on Shaq he claimed on the back of Dampier to get an ofensive rebound that was critical because since they didn't call it Dampier had to foul Shaq and it was at a moment when the Heat were coming back after been down by like 12 points in the 4th quarter. I thought then David Stern was the puppeteer. Lol, he has never like Mark Cuban and vice versa.

are you kidding me. I will chop of my arm if anyone beats the Celtics before they reach the Eastern finals vs the Pistons.
the Celts just played the Cavs today and pretty much could have blown them out. now granted Cleveland is still missing some players, but the Celts are way too strong and now with the addition of PJ Brown it gives them a lot of veteran and playoffs experience
I'd take that NBA Finals matchup as a Pistons fan. We beat New Orleans already once this season. As long as we don't have to play the Jazz. They've had our number for the last four seasons. Icem you need to up some of your series predictions to at least 4 games.

honestly, me being biased or not, when Bynum and Ariza get back, if those 2 play anywhere near how they played before going out, any team in the NBA is going to be hardpressed to beat the Lakers in a 7 game series. its going to be hard enough as it is even with those 2 out.
To me, if it's not the Lakers it will be the Spurs that come out of the West. Spurs have a great team, and a very good bench now. Ginobili playing past an All-Star level, you will have a healthy Parker, and don't forget Tim Duncan.
Utah and New Orleans have great squads but I don't see them heading to the finals this year.
NBA Headlines:
Chicago:
Kirk Hinrich was benched on Wednesday in favor of Larry Hughes, who scored 29 points in a win at Indiana.
Hinrich played just 16 minutes and spent the second half of the bench, along with Chris Duhon, who has completely fallen out of the rotation. ''I said there's competition out here,'' coach Jim Boylan said. ''Bring your 'A' game or come down here and sit next to me. That's the way that went tonight.'' Hopefully this motivates Hinrich to play better, but Hughes could end up stealing his job.
Well looks like the Bulls may have players on the trading block after the season.
Clippers:
Corey Maggette hit just 8-of-21 shots, but also hit 15-of-18 freebies on his way to 32 points, six rebounds, three assists and a steal in Wednesday's loss to the Blazers.
Maggette has been as hot as any player in the league since returning from the flu. He banged his knee or shin against another player's knee tonight, but stayed in the game. As long as he's healthy, he's going to be a beast.
Would love to see him on the Lakers. Hey Clips...trade you Hall of Famer Walton for Maggette?
Utah:
Mehmet Okur played his best game of the month on Wednesday, leading the Jazz back from a 15-point deficit for their sixth straight win over the Pistons
Okur scored 11 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter and finished with seven rebounds and four 3-pointers on 10-of-18 shooting. He's been inconsistent lately, but surprisingly has six double-doubles in February.
Fedos is right. Utah does have Detroits number.
New Orleans:
Chris Paul helped the Hornets break a three-game losing streak with 25 points, 15 assists, three steals and two 3-pointers on 9-of-21 shooting in a win over Steve Nash and the Suns on Wednesday.
MVP, well right after Kobe that is.
Washington:
The Wizards announced on Wednesday that injured forward Caron Butler has a small labral tear of his left hip joint.
Butler, who has missed 10 straight games, won't play on Friday or Sunday and will be re-evaluated next week. Since he's not on the trip with the team, details on his recovery procedure and a return date are as sketchy as ever.
Hope he comes back healthy because he is a great player.
Cleveland:
LeBron James played through a sprained ankle and scored 26 points in Wednesday's loss to the Celtics to become the youngest player in NBA history to reach the 10,000-point milestone.
He hit just 7-of-24 shots, but the good news is that he was able to play after X-rays were negative on his right ankle sprain. The bad news is that he's questionable for Friday. "I know my ankle, and I know tomorrow it is going to be a lot worse," said James. "So hopefully I will get some treatment tomorrow, and be ready for Friday." James reached the 10,000-point milestone at 23 years and 59 days. It took him 368 games to do it, good for the ninth-fastest in league history
Like I said before, he will break everything Kobe has done except for the 81 point mark. I also think he will pass Jason Kidd in Triple Doubles before hs career is over.

I'm glad you don't actually get paid to make predictions like this.
But obviously PHX would sweep...especially after they traded the only guy on their team who could do a decent job defensively on Dirk.
Srsly....rethink what you just said. Kidd would average 15+ assists. Shaq would get his ass ran into the ground and Dirk would tear everybody's ass apart who thought they would hold him on that team. Who would hold him? Hill? lol....Amare? lol....

Yeah, didn't want to say anything...so I'll still hold judgment on his picks, and when he has a new set up.

Just your first round. Hornets and Jazz will go deeper if they meet. And I doubt Toronto has any shot against Cleveland.
Other than that, I'll hold off on yours and anyone else's. I do like your Lakers finals prediction though. :)
Bruce Bowen hacked the **** out of Jason Terry on that last drive LOL!
It was the real test for Jason Kidd. To me they did a great job. Made some mistakes and should do really well when it comes to playoff time. They should have had J-Kidd in at the end. Don't understand why you would take out your "leader"...Barkley was absolutely right on this.
NBA Headlines:
Cleveland:
LeBron James (ankle) is expected to play on Friday despite being called a game-time decision by the team.
He played the second half against Boston on Wednesday after suffering the injury, and all indications are that he will be in the starting lineup tonight.
Wally Szczerbiak, who was recently acquired from the Sonics, will miss Friday's game against the Timberwolves to be with his wife, who is expected to give birth any day.
He's also said to be iffy for Sunday's game against the Bulls. Both games are in Cleveland, but we're guessing she's delivering the baby in Seattle, which would explain why he could miss two games.
Lakers:
A target date has not been set for Andrew Bynum's return from a knee injury.
He's working out in a therapeutic pool, but hasn't yet started jogging on a treadmill, meaning we're looking at a late-March, early-April return at this point. The regular season ends on April 15
Lakers guard Jordan Farmar scored a career-high 24 points on Thursday. He was 9-of-14 from the field with four 3-pointers, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Farmar has scored double-figures in five of the last six games, and has 20+ in two straight. It's unrealistic to think that he'll sustain this torrid shooting, and Vladimir Radmanovic's absence is partly responsible for Farmar's explosion.
I expect him to be back by Late March.
Sacramento:
Kevin Martin's numbers are down over the last month and he was benched for most of the second and fourth quarters of Wednesday's loss to the Hawks, playing a total of just 22 minutes.
Despite Martin's signing of a huge contract over the summer, Reggie Theus has decided to make Ron Artest the focal point of the offense, despite the constant trade rumors all season. "I'll just continue to work hard, do my same routine I've been doing the past three years and see what I can do," Martin said. He should bounce back from this slump, but his shaky relationship with Theus is concerning
Not a good sign to be arguing with your future star.
Miami:
Despite a long list of injuries he's still recovering from, Dwyane Wade is still planning on playing in the Olympics this summer.
''He wants to win a gold medal. I'm not going to fight with him over that,'' Pat Riley said. ``I just hope that he understands the risk that he takes by doing that.'' Interesting talk from Riley, as many of us are wondering why Wade is still putting his long-term health at risk by playing 40 minutes a night for the league's worst team.
Don't think the officials will give him all the calls like they did in the finals. Don't worry Wade, you'll get your gold thanks to Kobe.
Knicks:
Stephon Marbury has reportedly been instructed by Isiah Thomas not to attend New York Knicks home games while he rehabs after ankle surgery.
Despite having one year left on his contract, this news comes a day after Isiah Thomas spoke about New York's backcourt next season, not mentioning Marbury in the conversation. Marbury is said to be under a gag order by the Knicks, and has not commented since his Jan. 22 ankle surgery. Kiki Vandeweigh is rumored to be a candidate to replace Thomas as president, but there are also rumblings that Isiah could remain as coach.
Well they need someone else. Thomas can't do two things at once, or 1 thing at once.
Dallas:
Jason Kidd had seven points and 10 assists against the Spurs on Thursday, but sat out the final possession with the Mavericks trailing by just two points.
Avery Johnson is already being grilled in live blogs, so tomorrow's papers should be full of colorful analysis.
Yeah, he's not a threat from the outside, but he can make plays to get shots off by others.
New Jersey:
Devin Harris finished his Nets debut with 21 points, three three-pointers, five assists and one steal in just 20 minutes off the bench. He hit all six of his field goal attempts in the first half, but cooled off and finished 7-of-13 from the field.

Lakers had a great game yesterday. Kobe did some good dunks, Farmar had a career high and I LOVED this play. Showtime with the Lakers
http://www.youtube.com/v/38DOBtl2H74
lol Yeah, that play was amazing. Gotta hand it to the Lakers, they're playing some good ball. San Antonio isn't that far behind though.
Whats great is they are finally beating the teams that they should beat. Hate it when they play down to other teams levels, and end up losing. Loving every second of it. Can't believe Walton got blocked by the rim when he went in for the lay-up. Good thing he made it up with that play.
i dont even think the lakers played their best ball last night, but it still looked like an easy win. kobe had some killer dunks(also seems to be dunking more since pinky injury), but i also enjoyed Turiaf's monster dunk and his aggressive shot blocking. Famar and Sasha are lighting it up. they dont have to have an all around great game with so many scorers they can go to. they can have a different 1-2 players every night carry the load it seems. its scairy when they all start lighting it up.

Avery's ass in on the hotseat with that bs of him not playing Kidd at the end. Hell, that's what we brought him in for...to close games.
I didn't hear it, but Reggie Miller said that if you swap Kobe and Wade, the Heat make the Playoffs. The other two commentators didn't say a word on that after Reggie said that. Miller....YOU ARE 100% TRUE!!
San Antonio isn't that far behind though.
You are right. They are the only team that truly scare me. Utah and NO can be, but SA is the real threat.
Oh, interesting thing on Phil Jackson. Didn't know this, but the team's he's coached have made the Finals every leap year.
yep, Reggie said that. said Kobe would not allow his team to not make the playoffs, especially with Miami's coach and good supporting players.
Well, you guys have to also consider that Wade may not be one hundred percent yet. Pat Riley himself I believe said that he'd be much more healthier next season.

Does not matter. How many times has Kobe played through a season coming off injuries, or being injured. Considering its the EAST Kobe would no doubt lead the Heat to a playoff spot. To me he's just given up because he knows that the Heat has no shot at the playoffs. To me thats what separates Kobe from everyone else (LeBron, Wade, and so on).

Totally agree with you. Kobe has the heart of a champion. He was able to bring the Lakers to the playoffs 2 years in a row and thats when the Lakers were crap.
also, Kobe has been injured all season with random things, also played through the flu and everything else thrown at him...and oddly...thats when he seems to "turn it on" when he had the flu or virus whatever it was..bam! 40-50 point games. now he has a torn ligament in his shooting pinky and...bam!! now he is dunking more then before his pinky got injured this season.
he will not stop unless his body physically will not allow him to keep on going. and even then we would probably see him in a wheel chair on the court doing cross overs and fade aways.
Got plenty of Lakers fans on this board. Kobe does turn it on, just like Jordan did when he had the flu and such. Besides Kobe has said he doesn't want to get calls from Jordan or Harper telling him he's a weakling.
even then we would probably see him in a wheel chair
We've already seen Wade in a Wheel Chair. Surprised they didn't get him a stretcher after seeing that.

The Rockets won their 14th straight yesterday
Mutombo had 4 blocks and 14 boards(only 4 points though) yesterday, it's amazing how he can still get it done.
They are only 2 games back of 1st
1-7th spots in the west are only separated by 2 games 0_0
Kobe is no doubt the best player in the NBA right now but how quickly everyone has seem to forgotten how much he bitched and whined about wanted to be traded... Did everyone magically forget the famous radio interview he did? Give Wade a break, the guys has no knees and one arm missing practically. At least hes on the floor playing when he knows its meaningless. Personally, I wish Riley would just bench him and let him recover for next season. And what the hell is with the last two wins Miami? Don't you want that first pick anymore? Sheesh, stop winning games.

Wow, That play was awesome I was thinking Showtime is back, can't wait to see Bynum back though. I know he'll have a slow transition to get the "game shape" but if he could help with the paint D then the Lakers could go far in this playoffs. It surely sucks they lost to Portland last night though. I didn't watch the game but to me it seems that the Lakers are going to need to play better defense.

Nope still haven't forgot. If he wanted to leave let him go. I'm a Lakers fan and not a player fan. If your on the Lakers I'll represent that player. So if he wants to opt out next season, then F him. 1) he's stupid, 2) he won't get a max deal unless its from a sorry team, 3) if he want to win a ring, he will have to take a midlevel on a team like...say Boston, Cleveland.
Give Wade a break, the guys has no knees and one arm missing practically.
Sorry, but he's still a sissy. I was a huge Wade fan and thought he was better of the three (LBJ, Melo, Wade) in the draft. But after that finals series against Dallas he's nothing but a sissy to me because that series was given to the Heat when Dallas should have been champions.

I still think they'll make it passed the first round, it seems like they have so many weapons now(with and without Yao). Even without Yao this is a better team than it was last year and the years before that.

Okay, yeah, my bad on the 3 game playoff crap. I obviously was oblivious to the fact that the series standards had changed. So for the Phoenix Dallas stuff, thats 5 games, all the 3 game sweeps are 4. My bad. But at least I wasn't getting ripped for the Lakers Hornets stuff. :D
Another note. Whats up with Phoenix? I'm disappointed in how they're playing. They should've won last night. The offense is still in full effect, but this defense needs to pull it together.
Lakers won, what a great game!. :D. The last 2 freetrows were killing me man. Lol I was thinking why Odom didn't just pass the ball to Sasha.

Isn't that Shaq's role? Oh wait, the guy doesn't play defense. Duh! Phoenix gave away their best defensive player in Marion for a guy that fill the lane. No one is scared of Shaq anymore, and haven't for awhile.

They got lucky. I would be cursing mad right now if they lost. How stupid can you be at the end of the 4th to try to score? Sasha has the ball, all you need to do is stop and let them foul you. Then instead he passes the ball to Odom...WTF!!! Odom! Why, tell my why anyone would pass the ball to him at the end of a game? Then at the end of OT...Odom rebounds and then doesn't pass the F'n ball to Sasha. Odom got lucky and made one for the win.
It takes complete stupidity to look at a non shooter like Kidd, and double team him, than look at Dirk and not atleast stick close to him. Why a big reason when I hear..."Basketball I.Q". There is no such thing! Its common sense, and too me...not the coaches or the players have that. Your up 3, so you stick the 3 point shooter...namely Dirk, who you know will get the ball.

In the last play of the 4th quarter seems to me like Sasha just panicked and did Dallas the favor of passing the ball to Odom Lol, I don't even know why, because the guy shoots like 87% from the freethrow line. Then that play where Odom got the rebound in OT; I was jumping and screaming pass the f0cking ball to Sasha call time out or do something before they foul you, he didn't :-?. I thought then that he wanted to shoot the FTs but man they almost don't make it. They almost ruin Kobe's evening Lol. They need to improve a lot on defense and they need to use their brains a little bit better.
well they got lucky and squeeked away with that one. the past 2 games they have been in a slump deffensively and with their 3 point shooting, they are usually pretty good with those 2. was surprised Kobe started off 3/10 from the line.
NBA Headlines:
Toronto:
Chris Bosh (swollen right knee) will travel with the Raptors on their upcoming three-game road trip but is not expected to play in any of the games.
Sacramento:
Kings swingman Kevin Martin fueled a 21-point comeback win on Sunday, denying the Heat their second winning streak of the season. He hit 14-of-17 free throws on his way to 29 points.
Crisis avoided. There was news of a rift between Martin and coach Reggie Theus, but the Kings aren't going to suddenly limit the face of the franchise. He's played two terrific games in a row and should be fine going forward.
Houston:
Shane Battier had 20 points, five 3-pointers, five rebounds, three assists, one steal and two blocks in Sunday's win over the Nuggets, marking the Rockets' 15th consecutive victory.
The Rockets scored 103 points but it is their harassing defense (Denver shot 41% with 17 turnovers) that continues to win games. They are 3-0 since Yao Ming went down, a remarkable feat inspired by performances like Battier's on Sunday.
Wonder if these NBA "EXPERTS" want to take back their words? And how bad is Denver's defense? They are pathetic.
Seattle:
Chris Wilcox played 42 minutes in Sunday's win over the Timberwolves, finishing with 18 points, 15 rebounds, two assists, three blocks and zero turnovers.
Boston:
Paul Pierce scored 30 points in Sunday's win, going 10-of-19 from the field and 7-of-8 from the line with three 3-pointers, six rebounds and two blocked shots.
Pierce scored 17 of his points in the pivotal third quarter, including a personal run of 11 consecutive points for Boston. Ray Allen had 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting and has quietly made us forget about his ankle injury.
I don't know about anyone else, but why do I get the feeling that we may see a (2)Lakers vs. (7)Suns in the first round.
the press would gobble that one up. i can allready see it. Kobe vs Shaq all over again.
the press would gobble that one up. i can allready see it. Kobe vs Shaq all over again.
You can call it one of my conspiracy theories.8) I don't see Suns beating anyone in the first round...so why not have the NBA match up the Suns vs. the Lakers in the first round to get a huge ratings boost. If it does happen..you read it here FIRST.:p If it doesn't...well...I will admit I was wrong and my trust in the NBA will rise just alittle.:suspect:
well their last game against eachother was probably one of the best games in NBA this season so far. i still rather have Lakers at 1. almost doesnt matter who is where in the West as any of the teams have the potential to win.

Nope not going to get suspended. Now if that was Kobe, its another story. Kobe would be gone for a couple of games. When guys like Nash, LeBron, or Ginobili don't get suspended for the same thing Kobe did, then there is something wrong.
Dirk is a punk. He had a pretty hard foul in the Lakers game too, where he hit someone right in the head. Should have been a flagrant. Yet, Odom's guarding him and he flops like a little girl. He's just a 7 foot softie like Okur.

that was Fisher i believe. wonked him right in the face, almost knocked Fisher on his arse.
its just like that game a week or 2 ago, where Lamar tossed the ball against the backboard thingie in frustration..gets a T, then a few minutes later someone on the other team kicks the ball against it...and no T.

I seriously hate some of the calls that the refs do towards the Lakers. They get so many bad calls that it sometimes costs the Lakers games.
To me the whole game was refereed horribly. You had that flop by Dirk...then on the other end you had Kobe traveling. When refs. make bad calls on one end than you can expect a non foul being called on the other. I think Kobe shot more free throws than the entire Dallas team...not sure though.
But as for players not getting suspended:
Nash trips Felton on Purpose which leads to Felton being out for the season (I think):
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Scmx1z94WAI
Can't find a video of Ginobili throwing his arm (just like Kobe) and hitting another player, and not getting suspended. And can't find the vid with LeBron clotheslining another player.

I still remember a game with the Cavs and they were tied with couple seconds to go. LBJ drove in and lowered his shoulder which hit the defender in the chest that knocked him down. The refs had the nerve to call a blocking foul. -.-
Pistons got a win over Seattle. Tomorrow we play Boston. Hopefully we get the win, as then we'd be 2 games behind in the standings, and if Cleavland catches up to Orlando and gets the number 3 seed then Boston can still fall to number 2 and play the Cavs in the second round. The only team in the East I'm afraid of is Boston.

loved the MVP chants by Sacramento
man what a stressful game if your a Laker fan, every run they made was countered and it did not look good all game, and they played really bad defense for most all the game. Kobe took over the 4th quarter once again for the win. he was getting MVP chants in Sactown.... and they hate the lakers there lol
MVP chants in Sac. Town. Forget it...give him the MVP already. Loved Kobe pumping the Lakers jersey towards the crowd. Made me crack up.

Wow, I am amazed. Did not expect it.
Wow Mr. Clutch took over again.
Big difference compared to last year. Last season I was hoping Kobe would not shoot in the 4rth. He was not the same player. He would maybe win 1 game out of 5 in the 4rth. This season he has that desire, fire, and mentality to win and be MR. Clutch.
Anyone hear the Kobe song by Mario Ruiz?
If not go to www.myspace.com/marioruizmusic (http://ps3forums.com/www.myspace.com/marioruizmusic) and you should see the a song title with Kobe's name on it. Guy did a great job on it.

There are a couple of them here. Fedos and Blu-Ray are the other two. So represent the team. Even though I don't like the Pistons I hate the Celtics even more.
NBA Headlines:
Denver:
J.R. Smith hit 7-of-12 shots and six 3-pointers for 20 points in Wednesday's win over the Suns.
Smith's threes were crucial in the second half of this game, and he's inconsistent. But that said, he's hit double digits scoring in nine of his last 11 games, and has hit a whopping 46 threes over that stretch.
Houston:
Tracy McGrady had 23 of his 25 points in the first half as the Rockets beat the Pacers on Wednesday to set a franchise record with their 16th straight win.
Rafer Alston scored 21 and it's starting to look like the Rockets are going to put up a serious fight despite not having Yao Ming for the rest of the season. They've now won four straight without Yao and will face the Dirk-less Mavericks on Thursday night
This is a great chance for Houston to move up. Without Dirk I got the Rockets to make it 17 in a row.
Milwaukee:
Michael Redd scored 15 points before leaving Wednesday's game after being inadvertantly head-butted by Kevin Durant in the third quarter.
Redd took six stitches and did not return, but we're guessing he'll be ready for his next game.
Playoff Notes:
-Boston becomes first team to clinch playoff spot with win over Detroit.

I can see a rematch of the 04' Championship series........
I can see a rematch of the 04' Championship series........
Detroit vs. Spurs? Nah. How about a rematch of the 03' championship series. Lakers vs. Pistons.
However, Boston picking up more guys for their bench giving them more credibility and more resources to make a push for the Finals. It will be an interesting series if those two meet up in the EAST Finals.
Boston is the only team I worry about in the East as a Pistons fan, and if we were to make it to the Finals the only team I worry about in the West is the Lakers. If we played the Lakers in the Finals, Sheed would have to play his heart out against Gasol. From what I remember in the 03 series, we played some pretty good D on Kobe, we locked him down defensively, Shaq was getting his points though, so we'd have to worry about a young Bynum, depending on how he plays when he returns. The Lakers have a better bench than we do, though ours is of course much improved over last years, capable of giving us 30 points a night. I'd give the edge to our starting five just because we have been in battles in the playoffs over the years and this will be the first go around for the Lakers. Truthfully though, I'd rather play the Spurs.
Truthfully though, I'd rather play the Spurs.
Please no more of that. We've already seen it twice and it was boring. Need excitement...and thats where the Lakers come in. Lakers/Pistons round 2...Kobe's Vengeance.
We've only seen the Pistons/Spurs once, in 04/05.
We've only seen the Pistons/Spurs once, in 04/05.
Really? Why does it feel like they played twice? Oh maybe because I didn't pay attention to the horrid finals. Oh wait I forgot...Cleveland made the finals last year. Expected Detroit to win that. Still can believe the Cavs went.:suspect: Well, this year it won't happen.
As for the game today (Rockets vs. Dallas). If Pheonix wanted a defensive guy, they should have traded for Muuuuuutombo! Man, Skip to my Lou (sp?) with a shot.
As for Dallas. Should have gotten Andre Miller. He's a waaaaaay better shooter, got plenty of passing skills, and the defense is the same as Kidds. Probably would have given up less.
Anyways, its all about what you do in the playoffs.
Well, the only reason I say I would rather see the Spurs in the Finals is because as a Pistons fan I don't particularly like a potential Lakers matchup. We split the season series, yes, you guys beat us once without Chauncey and Rasheed I believe, and we beat you once without Bynum and Gasol, so that kinda evens it out, but I'd feel better playing a team like the Spurs.

Mavs look horrible and they do not need Andre Miller. Devin Harris IMO is going to turn out to be a better player. Personally I would have just kept harris and let him develop.

Only Chauncey Billups was missing that day. The Lakers could potentially beat any one but I feel they need of course to be healthy, to play better defense and to be mentally though, IMO the Lakers need it to get another perimeter defender too, a garbage man. Lol

Charles is such a hater, even when the rockets were winning at the half he was hating. He always seems to hate the rockets, Kenny smith doesn't as much..but Barkley is a different story. It's better though I prefer to have haters than people jumping on the Rockets bandwagon.
It was a good game, the Rockets played great. Also now some people got to see some of the rookies that not many had noticed before(such as Carl Landry).

Barkley is just mad that he didn't get a ring with the Rockets, and has his career end with them. With the current Rockets schedule they can possibly win 20 in a row or more. It gets tough once they start to face Hornets, and then after the Lakers...they have to win 50% of those games. Otherwise they could be out of the playoffs.
Yeah I have been a Rockets fan (not really hardcore, but my fav. team in the NBA) for the past 4-5 years or so. Before that, I didn't follow NBA much. I wish they were on TV more around me. It seems lately that they've been getting some more games, and rightfully so.
I like TMac alot, Yao is the man, and when they drafted Luther Head, I liked them even more. (Illini fan here, and was at U of I when they went to the championship game. **** Tarheels.)
geez, i went to the store at half time with Lakers up by only a few, come back and not even half way in the fourth and they are ahead by 40 points

Lakers shot 61% from 3 point land, 3% higher then their FG% lol. also had 7 players with double digits.
with bad news though, Ariza's foot is not healed as they thought it would and he will not be making it back before the end of the regular season. so far it is expected to be prolonged for 4 more weeks from what we previously thought.

Very nice, very nice indeed. To me the Rockets can beat anyone (except the Spurs and Lakers), especially the way Landry and Skola play. If they can stay in that seeding then T-Mac will finally pass the first round. I believe they play 3 under .500 teams before they meet up against the Lakers.
HUGE win for the Suns. They won't admit it but that was huge. Lucky no one was sitting in that seat that Shaq landed. He would have made a Human Pancake out of someone.

Celtics in 5. Celtics got more vets. (I like the PJ Brown pickup). PJ can still play and give you good minutes and still has a nice jumper. But when it comes down to starters, Billups is the only match-up the Pistons got an advantage over.
I have told friends that it will be Celtics/Lakers with Celtics winning it this year. Next year it could be the same match-up but the Lakers winning it, and the start of a new dynasty.:D
kings just dropped 71 on the Lakers in the first half. horrible defense.
ninja edit: ouch, lakers lose by 1. Gasol was fouled on the last shot he made with 15 seconds left, he should have gone to the line.
I wonder when they are going to learn to play some defense.

I like the Pistons in six as well, even though we beat Miami in seven on their home floor once. I think a lot of the media are wanting, hoping, and hyping up a Celtics/Lakers Finals, but remember, the media was also hyping up an undefeated Patriots team, and we all know how that turned out. The playoff series still need to be played, and I like our chances in a seven game series with anyone. Honestly though, I feel that the only teams that can win a championship this year are the Lakers, Spurs, Celtics, and Pistons. At this point I think the champion will be between those four teams.
i may be biased but i think lakers got hosed lol. Gasol should have had a 3 point play, and on the kings winning play Sasha gets knocked on his arse and then the guy with the ball drives right at Sasha while he is on the ground and creates contact sending him to the line for the winning free throws.
Lame.

Yeah, well it went either way. There were definitely some horrid calls on Artest. The guy goes into position but gets called for an offensive foul. He goes in for a dunk and doesn't get the call. Lakers did shoot more freethrows. Yeah Gasol got fouled but I've learned this season the officiating is ridiculously awful. What I truly hate is all the whining these players do. Can't stand all the crying anymore.
The main problem was defense. What I don't understand is why Phil Jackson doesn't start Turiof and Gasol against a punishing team like this? Phil's infatuation with Luke Walton is something. Lakers lose the lead when he enters the game...seems like it happens alot. Lakers still have Mbenga to come off the bench, and I like Mbenga's hustle. Yeah he'll get dunked on, but atleast he will challenge plenty of shots like Turiof does. If Phil wants to put his boyfriend Walton in the game, than do it when the Lakers are up by 20 or so.
As for the East Playoffs. If its Pistons vs. Celtics me and my brothers will make a bet. If the Celtics win in 4 or 5 games I get $500. If Celtics win in 6 or 7 than I owe him. If Pistons win, than no one wins. Thats how confident I am that the Celtics will easily handle the Pistons. Said earlier, Billups is the only advantage Pistons have.
Didn't realize this but it could be Boston vs. Cleveland in the second round, and Magics vs. Pistons. Very nice match-ups if it happens.
I think a lot of the media are wanting, hoping, and hyping up a Celtics/Lakers Finals
You know who wants this more? David Stern. He has been quoted on Dan Patrick show (when he was on ESPN) that Stern would like his dream Finals match-up to be......"Lakers vs. Lakers" HA!
The playoff series still need to be played,
Correct.

Agreed, but between those three.
yep, the Lakers defense has been lacking last few games. they almost won on sunday, but cant realy expect to win when you give up 71 points in the first half.
as for Walton, i dont think he is terrible but, i do kind of hold my breath when he is in there. i would rather just have Rad/Sasha and never see Walton unless they need a break. at least we know those 2 can light it up and score 20+. Walton feels like a "filler".
i realy miss Ariza lol

Oh and thats the other thing. Why didn't Sasha get the last shot. He was on fire yesterday and his jumpers brought us back. They should have ran the play for him, and used Kobe as a decoy. I was actually rooting for Sasha to get the ball for the last shot.
Whenever Walton has the ball I feel like he's going to lose it. The way he dribbles scares me. He's never a threat to shoot, so the defense doesn't have to worry about him. Most times when he's open and he receives a pass from Kobe or Lamar he rather pass it back to them instead of taking a shot. Still think he has no game whatsoever and should be one of the last few coming off the bench.

Any one of our five starters can give 20 plus points a night. That right there is an advantage in and of itself because the opposing team won't know where the offense is coming from. The Pistons are unique in construction. And if you're basing your conclusions off the regular season results you shouldn't. The last game we played with Boston we didn't make it into the city until 3 in the morning on the end of a back to back, while Boston had two days of rest, and we still almost pulled out a victory near the end of the game. We showed a lot of heart in that game. Like I said, I like our chances against any team in the league in a seven game series.

That I did not know. Now I will have to reconsider the bet. It happened to the Lakers this season against Atlanta, and then at home with rest the Lakers blew them out. That will truly affect a team.
Maybe I should take the other bet instead: If Lakers win (championship), I will get a Luke Walton Official Jersey and wear it with pride.
Also as for the tourny: Got some question for the participants. I have been thinking about the tie breaker (just in case) and so far I have:
1) Total points scored for the entire Finals series.
2) MVP
3) Total points in each Finals game. Person closest gets an additional point if there is a tie to break.
If you have any other ideas let me know. These are just ideas and have not been finalized. All participants will have a voice in it.
i get mad whenever Walton makes a turnover. when Sasha/Rad makes a turnover it dont bother me as much because i know they are at least making a contribution on the offensive side lol. Walton sometimes has some nice passes, last night he had a few bad ones.
and yea, maybe sasha should have got the last shot. but then again, 9/10 times, Kobe makes it. the deserved to lose last night though with that pathetic defense and the barrage of turnovers in the first half.
Anyone who says that the Detroit Pistons aren't a contender for the NBA championship really needs to consider their NBA Fan Card.
Great Job on everyone giving the Celtics credit where it isn't even due (I MEAN, IT ISN'T EVEN THE PLAY-OFFS YET, AND THEY PLAY IN THE WORST DIVISION IN THE NBA). Ask the Mavericks of 2007.

Honestly, I was more excited about him coming to the Pistons than Chris Webber. I think he'll actually make a difference.
And Pistons over Celtics in 6.. I'm sticking by that UnReal!! As for the Western Conference Champs, I don't think the Lakers are automatic. The Spurs may have something to say about that. :D
The Spurs have a chance to go up 3-1 in the season series with the Lakers later on in April. The Spurs are coming into town Friday and I've got tickets. Should be a great game.
Rockets win again. No one on the team even had 20 points. A quality all-around team win(although, it was against the Nets). My boy Luther shoots 4 for 4, 9pts, 3 assists and 2 steals. I wish he was a little more consistent, but I'll take good minutes off the bench from him. Tmac went 19, 4 and 4. NBA record tying 10th straight win by double digits. I wish I could watch the games. Had to check up on the flash player courtside live thingy.
Next up: Atlanta.
Geez, the Rockets are for real...
THEEOOO RATTLLLIFFFFFFFF!!!!! That's the reason we are going to the finals. Seriously. The Rattler!
LOL, I think that Detroit is 2-1 against the Lakers in the Finals (and you know it should be 3-0!!!!). I would love to destroy LA LA Land once again. :)
Tayshaun Prince is playing like our second point gaurd out there... and he is being agressive and taking it to the hole. I taped the Bulls game (I didn't watch it live, lol.... I love the Pistons!) and he hit is elbow and his hand went numb. The Guy then procedded to hit two free throws, hit a three, a two, dunk on someone, and give a couple assist - ALL IN ONE QRT. I am not used to seeing that around here since usually everyone plays as one, but this guy is going to be a stud when he reaches his prime, if he already isn't one..
Love Teyshaun Prince as a player. The guy does not get enough credit. He is a tough all around player. He's still in my top 5 for MVP, especially this season.
And Pistons over Celtics in 6.. I'm sticking by that UnReal!! As for the Western Conference Champs, I don't think the Lakers are automatic. The Spurs may have something to say about that.
Don't think I mentioned Lakers to be a lock. The Spurs are the only team that scare me in the West. They are the defending champs and the way they are playing right now....Lakers need Bynum to be healthy for the Lakers to have a chance because Gasol will get hammered in the post.
Also, why don't you put 500 points on it and join the rest of us for the Tourney?;) Then lets see if your picks come true.
Houston only 1 game behind the Lakers and Spurs...Wow! They better win as many as possible. Lakers has a very hard 4 game road trip coming up. Who knows, Houston could actually be in 1st place, but its hard to see when Houston has a very hard match-ups coming their way also. Spurs will finish at the top, with Lakers in 2nd. As for 3rd, its still up in the air.
My picks for Tonights winners:
Milwaukee vs. Washington: WAS
Seattle vs. Indiana: IND
Portland vs. Minnesota: POR
Utah vs. Chicago: UTA
Memphis vs Phoenix: PHO
Toronto vs. Lakers: LAL

As for 3rd, its still up in the air.
I think Houston will end up at the 5 seed when it's all said and done. That's where they should be. Once they lose the upcoming game to the Lakers, they'll lose their confidence and drop off.
Also, why don't you put 500 points on it and join the rest of us for the Tourney?;) Then lets see if your picks come true.
I'll think about it. :p
Forgot to mention this.
Barry Bonds is a Lakers fan?
[Thinks for a moment]
BARRY BONDS IS INNOCENT!!!! He did not knowingly used performance enhancing drugs! He is the KING of Home Runs!!! Barry, Barry, Barry!!!!!
Too many 3 point shots taken by L.A. Lucky they made plenty to win. Funny seeing Coby Carl in there so early. Did pretty good.
And wtf is up with the refs. calling a flagrant on Kobe? Kobe got all ball with the left hand, and got the foul with his right. And then on the other side, No Flagrant against Toronto! The guy gets ball against Pau, but then comes down and smashes Pau's head. None of those fouls were flagrant, but the flagrant call on Kobe was complete BS!
Sasha has become the flopping Pest. He irritates players and gets them to push him. Its funny seeing D-Wade and others get mad and frustrated with Sasha.
Record so far: 5-1
Picks for March 12
Houston vs. Atlanta: HOU makes it 20
Clippers vs. Orlando: ORL in a blowout
New York vs. Miami: NYN
Cleveland vs. New Jersey: CLE
Seattle vs. Boston: BOS in a blowout
Philadelphia vs. Detroit: DET
San Antonio vs. New Orleans: NOR
Utah vs. Milwaukee: UTA (better win this game or they suck)
Charlotte vs. Dallas: DAL
Memphis vs. Denver: DEN
Toronto vs. Golden State: GSW (GS: 140 TOR: 100)

@Tourney: Anyone got any Tie-Breaker ideas that they would like to suggest?
I would think a good tie breaker for this would be predicting who wins what games in the series. So if Detroit played Orlando in the first round it could go like this:
I predict Detroit to win in 5 games.
Game 1 - Detroit
Game 2 - Detroit
Game 3 - Orlando
Game 4 - Detroit
Game 5 - Detroit
Its harder to predict but easy then picking scores or another stat......

Thats an interesting idea. I'll put that on the list. I believe it would work for the Finals series (Too much for the whole thing). Add extra 2 points for picking the right team winning.
Thanks for the suggestion. I personally like the idea. I'll PM everyone once everything is set.

I'm pretty sure a team on one of the NBA's longest winning streaks, will not lose all their confidence IF they lose against lakers(or any other team)..

I agree with you. Win or Lose against a team like the Lakers, the Rockets can be an unpredictable team when it comes to the playoffs. Even though I still believe they won't beat either the Lakers or the Spurs in a 7 game series.
Wow. The fact that only ONE person mentioned teh defense Phoenix played when they beat the Spurs suprised me. Anyway, I wouldn't be too sure that the seeds won't change dramatically in a short period of time. For example, I have LA losing at least 2 of the next 4, maybe even 3. That could give San Antonio first, and maybe Houston 2nd. It also allows lesser teams to catch up. Plus, with Phoenix playing great ball and New Orleans being only 1 up on Phoenix for fifth, don't be suprised if the Suns make a push towards the 3rd, MAYBE, just MAYBE the 2nd seed.

Lakers will go 3-1 at worst. I am willing to bet on it.
well, if the Lakers dont pick up their game then they may lose more then 1 game on their tough road trip coming up. their defense has been horrible this last week or so, and they are not playing with that killer instinct and energy they had just a couple weeks ago. their last 4-5 games should have been blow outs, not nail biters.
^^Yeah, I agree with Scape. That intensity is not there. Gasol is getting abused down below, and with teams like NO with Chandler and West, Gasol will get destroyed. Thats why I want to see Turiof in the starting line-up with Gasol. Turiof will bring that toughness on D.
@Houston: If Houston somehow finishes in first or second, then to me you have to give the MVP to the entire Rockets squad or atleast McGrady.
3 great games tonight. Hard to predict who will come out on top. Utah have been horrible on the road, especially losing to teams that they should have beaten. Now they got Boston tonight.....
Spurs vs. Detroit. Should be good, but I think San Antonio will come out.
Then you have the Lakers vs. the Hornets. Hard to predict. I'm rooting for the Lakers, but I believe Hornets will win. CP3 kills the Lakers, and anyone else he plays.
And Houston will get 21 straight tonight.
I'm going to the San Antonio game tonight. We beat them by like 10 points in the first game, and both teams are coming off losses, so it should be competitive throughout.
i just got home and turned the game on. first thing i hear is Gasol is out! what happened and how long is he out? this is a horrible time to lose anyone.
i mean...how can the center who is replacing your injured center get injured?
lol this sucks.
Now Gasol!... Why?... why?.... I can't understand it. Lol. Seems like the Lakers just can't keep healthy.
looks like something with his ankle, rolled it when he came down on someones foot. out for the game, they will look at it and determine if he goes on the rest of the road trip or not. its never ending injuries for the lakers, and the way the game is going now, looks like it realy demoralizes them.
DDDEEEETRRROOIIIITTTTT BAAAAASSKKKETTBBAALLLLLL!!!
Detroit wins 84-80 @ The Palace.
Even though the game was most definitely not a "statement" game, I think beating the Spurs twice is mighty impressive. That was one of the best games I've seen in a while! 'Sheed and Rip are clutch!
Houston now tied for 1st in the West. Boy, everyone saw that one coming huh
Miami Heat now a solid three games in last place in the NBA. Boy, no one saw that coming huh

Rockets now have the second longest winning streak in NBA history all to themselves, after tonight's win Vs the Bobcats. Great game, Tmac really carried the team today(30 points 7 boards) and Mike Harris(signed a couple of days ago to a 10 day contract) did really well filling in for the injured Carl Landry. He had like 12 points in 15 minutes and really helped out in the fourth.
The Rockets are also tied with the Lakers for 1st place in the western confrence.
I really want to believe that the Rockets can beat the Spurs and the Lakers in the play-offs, but I just can't. I really want T-Mac to get out the first round though.... he deserves it.

Wow we always lose our big men before a hard stretch. Andrew before the 9 game road trip and Pau Gasol before the toughest 4 game stretch in the NBA. This is so gay.
Now our tallest player is Lamar who is 6'10. :(
yep, the Lakers luck seems to be terrible.
Can't wait for Sunday and Tuesday. Both games should be revealing of what the Rockets can get done against strong teams right before the playoffs.
Lakers might not have gasol(19.2 points and 8.6 rebounds) for sundays game, gonna hurt the lakers for sure, but i dont think his ankle is that bad. I dont think rockets gonna let one-man (kobe) take over a game. But i guess we will have to see. :D

Hopefully shane does a good job, he is always guarding the other teams best offensive player and usually does a pretty good job at it(containing players). Hope Carl Landry is good to go tomorrow.
with the way the lakers have been playing last 2 weeks, and then on top of that maybe losing Gasol for a little bit, im thinking they will lose all 4 in their road trip.
which i dont understand fully, because even with a few of their key players out, they still have one of the strongest line ups and bench in the NBA, but for the Lakers it seems like its more of a mental problem.
Wow, the Lakers have had the worst luck in recent years. (Beside STEALING GASOL)
And, do you think this is a good trade for the Pistons if they don't win it all this year?
Joe D trading for D-Wade.... hmm.

Tough Luck isn't it.
Oh, and to make things worse, 1st to 8th is like only separated by 2 games. Phoenix is SO primed to make a run for a way higher seed.
I think the Lakers will lose some games while they get Gasol back but they will be ok. All the teams from 1st to 8th are going to have some though games on the road and back to back against 500+ teams. So even if the lakers loose 4 to 5 games within the next 2 weeks they could bounce back very easily. They just can't afford another injury to another key player because then they will be in trouble.
