View Full Version : Rumble SIXAXIS Controller coming with 80GB Sony PS3[video proof}-Debunked?
Sony's announcement that it is to release an 80GB PS3 in the US next month has sparked fresh rumours that it intends to incorporate a rumble feature into its SixAxis wireless game controller.
Sony's 80GB PS3: ready for a rumble?
The rumours stem from a picture of the design of the 80GB PS3's box, which was released alongside Sony's announcement, and which shows the controller with an illuminated red button in the centre.
On Sony's PS2 controller the equivalent of the red button, a square LED, was used to indicate the operation of its rumble capability, which makes the controller... well... rumble in time with gun shots, car crashes, etc while playing a game.
Sony has yet to comment on the presence of a rumble feature on the 80GB PS3 controller, but some gamers are speculating the feature, also referred to as Touch Sense, will be an improvement on the PS2's rumble capabilities by making its vibrations more akin to what's taking place on screen.
For example, this could mean that if a gun was fired on screen then the controller will respond with a short sharp jolt, but when driving a car over rough terrain then the controller will provide varying levels of vibration.
Some cynics have previously suggested that until now Sony left out any rumble feature in the handset because of a then ongoing lawsuit with vibration technology firm Immersion, but the dispute has now been settled. So, watch this space...

Possibly Debunk:
I thought this had been cleared up? The red light is present on the de-bug units sony sent out at launch for review, Sony UK don't know why the light was dropped, but it was for the public release.
As far as the video, its another launch video, hence why she is playing genji, there are sales going on, and the narrator references the launch of the 360.

Im really kinda pissed about this whole thing. I bought the 60GB thinking i was getting the premium system.
I really hope that it is that specialized rumble, that would rock.
Humm, yesterday from SCE's development team's interview.
The guy just said even the Sixaxis with rumble,
there is a great possibility motion sensing and rumble can't active at same time.
They were testing using frequency filter but this will either limited the type of rumble or motion sensing.
I guess there is always a trade off.
FOr me it sounds like Immersion giving so much crap about Sixaxis not having rumble.
When SCE give them the problem they can't really slove it.

How does that video show the PS3 controller with rumble?
Hmm sounds good, but if they don't release it in Europe before December,so can they forget it as I'm getting my HDTV between November & December 2007,so yeah it's too bad for Sony,if they gonna treat EU like this, but I'll wait & see what will happen then:(
No rumble, red light doesn't prove anything.

Why does the light blink lol, that comercial looks so stupid.
Just saying the red light does not make me want another one, i rather mod mine and just add in a color light, it cost what 2 cents and a hour of my time.

Red light proves the Sony blog dude WRONG when he said that it's not a new controller or different. My controller doesn't light up, so OBVIOUSLY the controller in the video IS.

Well, I unlike you, have been holding off on buying controllers ever since the rumors of a rumble-enabled Sixaxis surfaced. So, sorry for you not being a bit more careful, don't end up blaming Sony for your choices.

Haha yeah I saw when you first posted that earlier today, and I've followed the various rumors throughout the day that followed. However, I can't see that video because I'm at work, so I don't know how convincing it is. Regardless.....
LOOK what you started .

I purchased my other two controllers long before there was even a rumor that there would be a rumble controller coming out. The one I just got was a replacement from sony, so I didn't really buy it so-to-speak.
My choices have been fine, if this happens, and Sony decides to make the ShockAxis the standard, it is THEIR choice which would be the poor one, and I'm sure everyone will agree with me.
That's like 360 putting out the elite with an HD-DVD drive and forcing the dev's to make HD-DVD games. What the premium system comes with at launch should always be the standard. You shouldn't have to "RE-BUY" anything. Add-ons like the eye-toy that are used with certain games are acceptable.
Nah, I doubt they'd make it standard themselves. It's up to the developers to utilize functions and stuff.
And this has happened before, with PSone. Originally, we had the "Original PSone Controller". Then they released the Dual Analog controller. Following that, the final Dual Shock was released for PSone, which later on became a standard for many games to build upon.
You won't need vibration, but it's a luxury.

Everyone who is whining and crying about how there bazillion sixaxis controllers they already bought dont have rumble needs to stop... now. It's not Sony's fault that you spent your money when you did.

I'll take emo engine over a bundled rumble controller any day of the week. Not that it matters to me since I already have one but I'll make sure to let my friend know about it.
man just a couple of days until we can find out all the details...and then the speculations end...
i hope its that touchsense that immersion was talking about as well... i would be down to buy another controller.

Boy, that video... Sure helped me not at all. If I knew.... whichever language it was in, it would be nice. Do they say anything about rumble?
nah this does not bother me at all. even with 80GB i still have a bigger hard drive then this. but we have the choice to upgrade. but i will buy the rumble pad.

I really hope the controller incoporates that touchsense stuff. It would be lame if they re-released it with the normal rumble we've already had for the last two generations of gaming systems. Playing MGS4 with a "touchsense" controller would be awesome.:)

the PS3 can use up to 7 controllers now you need to find some more friends.

I predict this is nonsese. It's a red light that flashes in an annoying sequence, there is no way this would be real...

Well actually im pretty sure they state how Sony wishes to double their sales in America with the new $100 price drop. The PS3 which was used might be one of those launch consoles though. Red light still means absolutely nothing like most people have said.

It would be a stupid move my Sony to pack in a controller with rumble in one SKU, and not put it into the other. They can't separate the market.

Whatever happened to that, actually? Does the PS3 still support 7 controllers, but the devs don't use the feature?
One thing I just don't get - why Sony would use such old press images on the new box? It doesn't make sense. Unless, of course, it's there for a reason. ;)
E3 can't come soon enough.

It can support 7 Bluetooth devices at once, not just SIXAXIS controllers.
Madden is probably your best bet at 7 player support (simultaneously). I don't see it happening right now, though.
