I was thinking about this 360 launch stuff.. and wondering - If alot of people are buying these as gifts for the Holiday Season - they have not used them yet. and will sit in a box for a few weeks. Could this mean that more problems could spring up after december, simply because alot of the consoles will have been wrapped up until then??
Food for thought...

Yeah it very well could be like that but IMO most of the 360's sold so far would've gone to hardcore gamers and these peeps won't wait for Santa  . I know i wouldn't - hehe .
I'm however gonna be playing Santa this year and buying my little cousin an Xbox Christmas Bundle including Halo 2 and Forza Motorsport :D

right now its minor and few problems. Eventually when the system start getting older and older or running everyday. There will be possibly more problems.
Remember, these same 360s are launching in a matter of days in Europe and Asia.
According to the official Xbox 360 team's blog, the failure rate is below 4%. That's based on the number of calls they've received for tech. support, which is far more accurate than the TeamXbox poll you guys keep citing. Give it up already.

You've got to be kidding me. After the experiences most people have had with MS customer support? I'd take my system back before I'd call tech support and get another one from the retailer. (Either that or ride my warranty until it was almost out).
Who do you think the retailers call when they RMA? Santa Claus?

Microsoft can pretty much estimate the number of defective units being produced. Even though they can't catch them all before shipping they know they are out there and are ready to do whats neccassary to fix these problems. All manufactures go through this process when producing a new product.

It's not that I wouldn't trust MS to hold up their warranty... its that I wouldn't want to waste my time talking to tech support.
They were prepared. They have extra consoles in stock to cover returns, and do everything through overnight shipping (they even overnight you the box you use to return it).

so what does this cost 50$ in shipping i dont know close i assume this will cost alot of money for M$ but at least they are doing something about it just the thing is they are sending you back a system from the same batch as any of the buggies but maby it will all work out i am not buying one and if i do it will be like two years from now as that whole disc drive over the GPU is alittle freaky.

that why they lost 125 bucks each console sold  replace new one cost 100 bucks and overnight shipping (which MS not doing overnight shipping) cost 25 bucks. and waiting your Xbox 360 and overheating problem is priceless

So I guess it will go something like this
New Console: $400
Over night shipping due to overheating: $25
Lost per console: $125
Loss of profit for M$: Priceless
For everyone else there is PS3.

could people please stop making missleading threads.
again if theres an issue it comes with a 3 month worentee. thats 90 frigan days of service.
stop dwelling the only people worried about it are those who wherent planning on getting it to begin with or others who are so simple as to beleive everything they read no matter how reliable or dreditable or realistic it is.
as was posted once you don't hear about the plains that dont crash.

if that's just from people callling tech support i bet it's it's higher than that. if my 360 didn't work i'd take it back the store, not call someone to talk my ear off. even at that, 4% seems like a pretty substantial number to me, though nowhere near the 14% that's floating around.

Well -- I am not talking about anything to do with warrenty, I know its 90 days, thats not the issue... It is just the fact that many other problems may be hidden because of the holiday season... but may explode come january... Please dont make silly responses... KING

its a silly thread this whole things blown way out of proportion.
even if its a 50% defect ratio they can still have it repaird and sent back its not going to matter everyones trying to make it sound like ...if you buy a 360 its going to be defective and you just will loose out on 399+$ thats crap i can sell a 360 hit with a sledgehammer and let my dog crap on it for 600$ on ebay so i would just like it if people would stop the fear tactics its getting anoying.
Nothing will happen to a console sitting in a box... you guys are now just looking for problems with the 360. The only other issues other then the ones happening now I would worry about are the long term ones that happen after being played for a few months but all consoles have these, look at PS2 hell my first PS2 had this problem. I am very dissapointed in some members of the forums I was hopeing they wouldn't be this childish. When Xbox 360 fans would complain about us being Biased in the past I would say we are probably the least biased forums out there but with the release of the 360 so many fan boys and newbs have come looking to piss off the 360 fans.

We arent trying to say "you lose $399" were trying to say that this whole stupid crashing thing makes people get a system, only to have to send it in to get it fixed, where is if I payed 400 bucks for a console, I WOULD BLOODY HELL WANT IT TO WORK PROPERLY WITHOUT HAVING TO SEND IT IN!.

that's something you cannot garantee with any console, what happens if the ps3 package you get has been dropped while shipping ?
this would maybe also lead to a ps3 malfunctioning, how could any company protect itself and it's product against such a case ?

and no you are not losing the 399$ at all.
a 3 month warranty?
what the heck that's a bit short in the UK we get 12 month warranties. :P
wonder why the warranties have changed.

Yeah the FTC here in the US requires that all consumer items come with a 90 day warrenty...
Based on last generation MS doesn't ask questions when a retailer returns a unit, they just have the contracted repair company collect them for exchange. Used to be you could get a cheap xbox from...
