http://www.4colorrebellion.com/archives/2005/12/04/raid-over-the-river-first-revolution-screens/
Recently, a developer by the name of NIBRIS stated that they were making a Nintendo Revolution title. The game, a shooter by the name of Raid Over The River is, at this point, being created on a PC since the developer doesn’t have access to a Revolution dev kit.
Today they released some screenshots and concept art for the game. Could this be the first Revolution game screenshot? Possibly. However, since NIBRIS doesn’t actually have a dev kit and might not even know the power or abilities of the system it’s hard to tell.
So, these are in no way official screenshots. But, let’s just enjoy them and take them for what they are; nice looking concept art of what might turn into a cool Revolution game someday.
Game is, afterall, confirmed for Revolution.

I Really hope the revlotion will have better grapchis then this.

Technically, it is. They don't have Revolution development kits so they developed it on a PC.
I have to say, Nintendo keeps to games. And I'm really proud of them that they do that. Even though the Nintendo DS has not so grand graphics abilities, it still has a strong game and appealing audience. That's what I like about Nintendo...and that's why they should become 2nd Party to Sony in the near future.

Why is everyone hoping for pimped out graphics? I don't see the Rev as the #1 console but rather the #2. The reason i'd want it so much is because i'd be able to play all the classics and some might even get a facelift.
Also, if Nintedo hopes to sell the Rev it's got to be cheap, and I mean cheap. Pimping out the graphics and giving it a diesel CPU is only going to make it cost more.
Be happy for the rev really is and that's a BC powerhouse.

you have to remember, if thats really a game for the revolution, it was developed without a devkit... thus the graphics are only as good as their computers can do.
and while we're talking about graphics, i dont really see how thats 'bad' graphics, it looks like an arcade space shooter (like Nanostray) and that top down view makes it so the graphics dont really need to be that powerful. *rolls eyes*
it looks like there is a lot going on, in those screenshots, and the detail looks decent. look at the shadows, and the fire, and the smoke... if those effects look like I think they look, then I'd say Nintendo (or at least this company making the game) is doing their job, in the graphics department... =P
Besides, if your gonna insult the Revolution's graphics, plz at least wait until E3'06, when we see some truely REAL graphics for the Revolution! =P

Remember, this wasn't made on a Revolution dev kit because they don't have one, it was made on a PC dev kit. The game will probably look much better once created with the proper tools

I understand what you mean Chocobo Kid, but a lot of games made exclusively on PS2 have gone down in quality. Okay, think Final Fantasy for a second. FF6 SNES graphics were pretty easy to develop and didn't take too much time, storyline was amazing, gameplay was fantastic, the amount of characters you could get was high (somewhere between 15-20) and the game never really had a "dull" moment. Okay, FF7 Great storyline, 2 hidden characters, mini-games, okayish graphics, gameplay was pretty good.
FF8 Graphics wsre pretty good, storyline was good but not quite FF7, let alone FF6. The though of the main gameplay was good on paper, but in game some things didn't turn out that well. The enemies leveling up as you level up made the game easy, since you could be the game at level 20ish. Summons made every fight a breeze.
FF9 amazing graphics for it's time. Storyline eh.. pretty basic actually. Girl runs from her kingdom, she meets some theif they end up saving the world from some guy that wants nothing but to destory the world woo-hoo. Gameplay pretty basic felt like older final fantasies, but a little too basic. Yeah you could change what skill you had equiped but after FF7 that whole kind of deal pretty much made FF9 suck.
FF10, current gen. Storyline, I'll admit wasn't THAT bad. Graphics are amazing and look fantastic even though the game came out a while ago. Gameplay? Well you get into a battle.. and you well.. fight.. you can switch characters in battle, kinda pointless in my opinion since I hardly used it. Okay the whole sphere grid thing was also good on paper, how it played out? Well, lets just say a majority of the people I know that have played FF10 same they never beat it because they got stuck on a hard boss since they didn't have a spell that they pretty much needed to beat it. There were many different routes and unless you checked kinda far ahead of where you currently are every time you use the sphere grid points, chances are you will miss a good ability.
So the gameplay has gone down since older FF on the SNES. Even Star Ocean 3 was pretty bad compared to Star Ocean 1 and 2.
Basically that whole charade was to get you to see that Nintendo wants better gameplay, and basically says screw the graphics. Wind Waker was an amazing game, sure the sailing from place to place was boring, but if Twilight Princess's land mass is just as big whats to say that won't be boring? Then again WW was kinda like a zelda game with the amount of space as, lets say, GTA: SA? The main Mario games that come out are still pretty solid titles, no I don't mean the crappy baseball games that Nintendo makes in a few months and releases just to earn some extra cash. Metroid Prime games have fantastic gameplay, and the two title on gamecube both got above atleast 9.0 on pretty much every website that reviewed it.
This is a rather long rant, but I just don't see how some people care about mainly graphics. Gears of War gets compared to Metal Gear Solid graphics, and they devs of Gears Of War says something like they have great gameplay and things that have never been done before. They considered blind fire something never done. Killswitch anyone? You sould duck behind things and use blind fire. Wait, hasn't that never been done before? Well, I guess they didn't do much research then.
Gears of War is pretty much Killswitch with better graphics, whereas Metal Gear Solid, whether they end up with the same graphics or not, will end up with a fantastic storyline, MGS gameplay (with some added features). MGS has always had something added to gameplay, every title. MGS2 added first person view with a gun, MGS3 added camoflauge, MGS4? Well and odd man that is sick, in the middle of a battlefield, and various ways to change the story depending on a few things, that already sounds like they added something new...
Sorry for this long rant, once again, but I just want to point out whether graphics are the same or not, it should always be the gameplay that makes the game, not the graphics.
Oh and thanks for whoever actually read all this, whether you agree with me or not.
P.S. Chocobo Kid, this wasn't directed towards only you, your entitled to your opinion.

FF XII let's you choose which way you want to play in battles...Just like FFVII, kind of.
I mean The Final Fantasy series have never had extroadinary gameplay. But what they lack in gameplay they make up for in graphics, storyline, and music score.

Well yeah, but when I consider a game I break it up into 2 main catagories.
Graphics
And
All the other stuff.
I consider storyline should be good, along with gameplay.
Whereas graphics doesn't always mean the game will have a good storyline or gameplay. Usually if the gameplay is good, the storyline is good. If we get into talking about RPGs then most of you should know that Final Fantasy isn't even that great. Square's lesser known RPGs are better, well most of lesser known.
Xenogears
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
Dragon Quest (was pretty much unheard of before 8 was released.)
Those are all better than Final Fantasy but FF is hyped so much. They had FF7, which I'm still confused as to why it is considered the greatest RPG of all time.
This is what you get with a game system with only 104 megabytes of RAM, folks.
I want my games to look great and play great at the same time. Sony can do it , so why can't nintendo do the same?
And that's exactly why the "Revolution" will more than likely fail this generation. People want beautiful games with a great stoyline/gameplay.
I'm not trolling, or hating. . .i'm disappointed, trust me. :(

Okay Nintendo Revolution is not HD they don't need as much memory as PS3 or xbox360. The graphics will look EXACTLY the same on a standard def television, which is what most do not understand. It's nintendo so you know there will be three main franchises with excellent gameplay. People will get great graphics and great storyline/gameplay. They just won't need to dish out an extra $3000 for an HDTV.
Actually, most of Nintendo's games have jack for storyline. That is actually one of the things that Nintendo absolutely sucks at.
Though, they generally have gameplay and level design down pat.
I am actually looking forward to the Revolution recently. Mainly due to some of the games that Nintendo themselves have been making for the DS. Nintendogs and Ouendan is a prime example.
Seriously, who else would make a Rythem game based on the concept of a male cheerleading squad that is on call. It is arguably the best rythem game to come out in a long time and is really only possible with the touch screen.
If they can pull off more games like that with the Revolution and have a decent selection of games on their emulation based service, I will love it.
Now if they only create an achievement system for all the revolution games and any games that download from the emulation service and make it similar to Xbox Live's achievements and gamerscore that is cross games I will be in heaven. Better yet, partner with MS and just use the Live system to handle it in their system (MS has offered already, just suck in your pride and accept).

Well, yeah (about the storyline) but there is a difference between a good storyline that, in theory is good, but how it is played out sucks. Think about ocarina of time. The storyline is okay.. A kid pulls out the sword and he is the hero of time, he then saves the world. Thats basically it. But the way it is played out is fun. You combine a simple storyline, with great directing, and amazing gameplay, you find yourself with an extremely awesome game.

I agree, Nintendo should team up with the team at Xbox Live if Microsoft offered it. Although I think there should be conditions:
1) Nintendo only has to pay a small fee (or no fee) for Microsoft to host the servers, the online service for Nintendo would still be free.
2) Nintendo can change the interface how they please, it could look totally different from XBox Live and work differently although it would still be the same, awesome service.
3) Microsoft would get a lot of credit for creating the online service, they would essentially be promoting each other.
Anyhow, if this happened, it would be the best online service ever. Just so you know and ask, "Microsoft is getting the low end of the deal because they have to pay a lot more for Nintendo to have it free for their customers." I would then reply with, "that's why I chose option 3 in the agreement because Microsoft would be getting publicity off of this."
Just a note, I don't think Xbox Live is expensive but the reason I'm saying Nintendo should have it free is because that's what they want, Microsoft should honor that if they ever did a deal.

If everyone weren't so concerned with the graphics of a game you people might actually have fun playing games. Nintendo never really seemed to be all that big on graphics but more the game play.

I find that graphics don't matter to me. As long as I can see what I'm doing, I'm okay. Look at all the great games with not so good graphics. I think FF7 had lousy graphics. (was it good for the time? I don't know, I had it for PC.) Nintendo's graphics are okay, but games like Windwaker, (which I didn't like, but the graphics were still done very well)
But don't you think Nintendo tries a bit too hard to be Innovative? I love innovation, but sometimes I'd like to play a Violent First Person shooter that has nothing new about it.

Actually, the way the Rev controller is set up, you can still do that. See, the Rev has "shells" that you can use for a regular controller like the Game Cube controller so I'm sure we'll see new type of games that play differently and some games of the past.
Mr. Solanky
12-08-2005, 00:56
I knew that. But sometimes I feel that Nintendo can be a bit TOO innovative. One of my favorite games of all time: Majora's Mask, was innovative. The whole time thing was brand new and fresh, and added lots of cool concepts to a game. But a lot of my friends didn't have time to play it, due to you couldn't save in the middle of a temple, and that in order to progress, you had to find different masks through mini-games and other activities. I love that game, but for some, they missed out on what a great game because the innovation was too hard to grasp at first.
Ubisoft is making an FPS for the Revo. I don't normally associate Ubisoft with "kiddy games".

You're right, Nintendo is trying to now get an image that their console is for everyone, just like Microsoft is trying now. Sony pretty much already has that.

I wouldn't be surprised if the deal was similar to EA's. Run your service within the Live service.
So Nintendo could setup their online service and have it run within the "Xbox Live Silver" service for free. The exception would be games that played online.
3 things could happen there.
1) Nintendo pays MS a set fee per year to enable all their systems to just play online as though they were Gold Live accounts
2) Gold Live accounts would be cross system capable (very likely) and thus you pay once and play on either.
3) Online game makers for Nintendo would pay an extra royalty of a couple bucks per game sold that would go to MS.
Either way, MS would definately want to get money for this.
Nintendo would benefit from the best online service there currently is.
One thing is guarenteed, Nintendo would be allowed to customize the UI and such.

Making online games is a lot harder than a lot of people seem to think it is. That is why MS has done what they have done with Xbox Live. They handle a lot of the pain directly so that the developers don't have to.
How many developers do you think want to have to deal with enabling the network adapter themselves and properly configuring it and connecting through NAT's, Firewalls, etc...
Not to mention building a TCP/IP stack, login system, game location system, buddy lists, etc...

With regards to storyline: There are very few console games that I know of in which the storyline is an integral part of the actual gameplay. To me, the games that depend the most on a good storyline are RPGs and adventure games: for the rest, the story just sets the stage for the gameplay mechanic.
Example: The Halo franchise has a great storyline behind it (which seemed to atrophy on the 2nd installment). But what was the objective of almost every halo 2 level? get in this place; kill/blow up such and such; get out. Don't believe me? Just count how many times Cortana says "We need to get out of here..." One of the Bungie programmers put it best when he said that there are about 30 seconds of fun built into every action game, and that the key to a good action game is making that 30 seconds of main gameplay work really well. I'll be damned if I can figure out a storyline for half of nintendo's games.
For graphics, I am not worried too much. Nintendo has always been functionalist when it comes to hardware; The revo should have enough graphical horsepower to get things done (especially on standard definition). Plus, the revolution's hardware capabilities and dev kits are an extension of the gamecube's, meaning gamecube developers should find it easier to maximize the revolution's graphical potential.

One thing i have to mention about nintendo..
The evoulotion of there games are so slow its not even funny..
From Nes To snes to super nintendo to nintendo 64 to nintendo gamecube.
