EA Wants a Revolution
The unstoppable third party throws its support behind Nintendo's next console.
by Matt Casamassina
December 8, 2005 - Nintendo of America's vice president of sales and marketing, Reggie Fils-Aime, spoke at the recent 33rd Annual UBS Global Media Conference in New York, where he revealed that third parties are excited for the company's next-generation console, codenamed Revolution.
Fils-Aime made particular note of third party publisher Electronic Arts' acceptance of the upcoming machine, quoting the giant as saying: "It's a brilliant controller, and as usual we can credit Nintendo with being innovative and neat and fresh and fun. They continue to pioneer in our industry…they make some of the best games in the industry…and we look forward to partnering with them."
EA has not yet announced any games for Revolution, but the company is in full possession of alpha development kits and is already underway with software for the console. First EA-developed Revolution titles are expected to be unveiled at the Electronics Entertainment Expo 2006, which kicks off next May in Los Angeles.

I usually display extreme hatred for EA...this is not good news for me.

Trust me when I say that even if you hate EA (like me) this is great news. EA's games are the some of the most popular, even if a fair percentage are crap. With the popular games, more people purchase the console. The more people purchase the console, the more developers you have on that console.

Well, that's a good thing. Because if Nintendo wants a shot of being on top this year, they need more developers on the Revolution.

Yes i eventually agree with you that even if you dislike EA you will love this combination...I love EA because there games are so good and you get a good laugh out of them and you feel so good when you play the games...Their games are so realistic and this would be the best thing that would happen for Revolution if EA and Nintendo joined...

Wow this is an actual surprise for me. EA are actually backing something innovative for a change! I thought they wouldn't be touching the Revo with a stick. Even though I dislike EA through and through, I have to give them some credit for deciding to make games for Ninty's console.
However as most of their games usually feature multiplatform support, the Revo will probably get all the PS3 and Xbox 360's EA games downported. I don't see EA affecting Revolutions dominance or developer support too greatly; and Nintendo have stated that they don't intend on competing with the other two consoles. Most people will want to buy the more graphically superior versions of Burnout or NBA Live etc... on their Xbox 360s or PS3s anyway. I'll be buying the Revolution just for its exclusive titles and none of EA's games.

Far Cry 2 Producer Louis-Pierre Pharand has said that the game’s single player campaign could potentially last gamers up to 50 hours.
Speaking to CVG, Pharand commented, "Just on single alone, gamers can potentially have close to 50 hours of game play.”
Pharand also divulged that the highly anticipated First Person Shooter would not feature co-op due to the sheer size of the game, stating, "We decided to abandon it for this instalment simply because of the complexity and size of the game.”
"Add the Multi experience & the Map Editor... gamers will have their money's worth with FarCry2,” he explained.
Far Cry 2 offers players an entirely non-linear, open-ended experience, with gamers able to navigate a sprawling, 50 square km landmass in Africa, featuring terrain from savanna to the jungle.
The game replaces Jack Carver from the original Far Cry with an entirely new protagonist, and implements a dynamic weather system, with weather conditions changing depending on how the player is performing at the time.
Environments will also be highly interactive, with one demo in particular showcasing the ability to destroy various plant life and vegetation, in addition to multiple man-made objects. Natural elements will also play an important role, with wind effects for example able to exacerbate the spreading of fire.
Far Cry 2 is currently scheduled for release on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 in September 2008.
