Which do you think is best? Use whats happening with Home as the basis of your answer, although aspects such as lag is obviously just PSN.

Categorize:

1)Talking to friends
2)Easy, quick online play.
3)Meeting new people
4)Which has least lag?
5)Simplest and easiest?

Whichever gains the most votes you vote for in the poll.

No mindless arguing,I'm just seeking opinion, if it turns into another flame war I will request it to be closed. However, some nice debating wouldnt hurt, as long as you dont take things too far and leave fanboyism at the door.

I dont think you should compare them because they're both different one you pay for and the other you don't, one has more one has less

Content = Live
Layout = Live
Bigger Future Potential = PSN

Thread seems a bit premature though....

Let's give the Home/PSN a chance, but I think Sony is tricky,so they will make them good:)

Little too early to tell I think, and I've never used Live so I will refrain from voting.

They both suck. PC offers all the features plus a whole lot more for free.

actually the psn is free and later on when almost every pc game is a windows game you're gonna have to pay to play online:D because it's gonna have live

Both suck! Why would you even need to compare the two? It's not like too many people are gonna buy a PS3 just to build a house of their own. I know some will, but the PS2 sold 118 million consoles with almost no online support or HOME.

Live vs HOME is silly because people buy consoles to play games, single player games.

I'll base my answer, on your criteria:

1) Talking to friends - XBL
2) Easy, quick online play - XBL
3) Meeting new people - Both
4) Which has least lag? PSN
5) Simplest and easiest? PSN

Though it seems like a tie, 1 and 2 are probably the most important. PSN, its harder to manage messages, chats and game invites, simply because of the lack of in game XMB access. Plus, hardly anyone has a BT headset. However, I feel like PSN is a lot cleaner and less clunky in its design and easier to use, which is a big plus as well.

Features: Live
UI: Live
Friends: Live
What I care about. Lag free gaming for free so the actual GAME PLAYING doesn't stutter or get frustrating to play: PSN

Overall: PSN

I don't give a crap about all kinds of features if the actual game play is effected by lag. It's like a guy showing off a Hummer and gives you a ride, and the thing rattles and is a rough ride. Isn't the whole point lost if the actual G A M I N G experience is effected because MS gimped out and didn't want to provide dedicated servers?

If MS offered the quality of servers that Sony has been shelling out, I could justify paying for Live. But the fact that they are charging for software and not servers for playing online just annoys me to no end. Yes they need money for servers for music and movies, but it's the actual downloads that pay for that.

well considering home is only out for a select few, myself not included, i think this poll should wait until home is available to the general public

I would say Live surely kick a** right now, look at all those demos they are getting but with the addition of HOME, Sony would have to concentrate on PSN alot more.

Both are great but i voted home/psn because i think it's better. primarily because lag is low, it follows the KISS principle and is free.

XBL has better features.
PSN is better for actually playing.
Don't think I could pick which one is better overall, but a combination of the two would be awesome :)

I like what I see so far.

3 for XBL
3 for PSN
5 for Both (what I voted for)
2 for Neither

At least the votes seem to be cival, as they both have good things that the other could benifit from having.

This one's easy, Xbox LIVE.

Honestly, LIVE. All those features are important to me, I love staying in absolute touch with friends, and being able to so easily communicate with them. The whole unified system appeals to me much more.

If you really want to compare XBL and PSN we should take a look at XBL the way it was when it's 9 months old. Y'know, for the sake of fairness and everything.

Right, because business is about fairness. You think consumers care about that? It's whats here now. You think if product A is better than product B, consumer will pick B because in a few years it MIGHT be as good as product A?

Move with the times, multiplayer is way much more fun than single, you should join the 6 million plus Live users... see for yourself!

If someone could do a nice writeup of feature vs feature for the 2 that would be nice. Since I have never used PSN I cant lend an opinion.

Also, there are how many games using windows live? yeah barely any. Every single game I play on pc has free online, and if I choose I can voice chat and send instant messages at the same time. I also have the benefit of dedicated servers. I can even set up my OWN dedicated server in allot of games. (obvious down side to using pc is the price. A good gaming machine will cost you at least 1000usd)

Xbox Live superiority is generaly accepted by the opinion in the industry. However, you might find different results over here for being this a mostly PS focused place.

I agree with you UK,online multiplayer is where it's at. I do like a good single player game once in awhile but most of my gaming is spent playing with friends on Live.

The PSN is pretty crap atm, i must be honest here.. there is a web-site type interface, with clickable image/links to downloadable content.. and not a lot of it.. at the moment (now us ps3 owners have never said that before.. have we!!)..

It needs a complete overhaul, imho, maybe using the RSX for some real fancy stuff.

In time it will come.. we just have to wait, wait, wait..

Well, I don't have any experience with LIVE, so I won't vote on this one.
But you're probably right though, people will vote if they've tried both or not.

Yeah and there are more exclusive ps3 users here then 360 users.

Edit: oops double post, sorry.

I like how LIVE has millions of demos, and is already perfect in almost every way. I don't like how you have to pay for it.

I like how HOME is free, and you'll be able to interact a bit more, and the PSN will shape up over time

seriously guys whats the point of this, are your lives really that sad and pathetic thats this is the best use of your time, this is so stupid even for me. im starting to see why so many people are complaining that the forum is going to hell. how does this help anyone, you want to know something, ask anybody in their right mind who is unbiased, whats better and they will say live hands down home is unproven i seriously hope it does prove to be a contender but as things stand Microsoft has got sony beaten in this department. who the hell cares, if your a gamer play ****ing games and stop bull**** threads.

Coming from somebody who makes countless, uninteresting news threads^^^

We're on a forum. Where you talk and discuss things! If im a gamer stop making ******threads??? So why are you here? A forums here for making threads and debating things, and we DISCUSS GAMES to maximise our knowledege of whats coming out soon etc....... if you dont want people to discuss games, GET OFF THE FORUM! However, your 922 posts seems to differ to that opinion, which beggars the question....Is it that time of the month??

XBL is the champ for the moment.

PSN could rival it in the future but that will have to include allowing every game to have global online play, having a garden wall around my online gaming in some games dictated by my region is not what i want.

08-09-2007, 19:38
Both are great imo!
But in time if MS keep charging for Live w/out dedicated servers and HOME matures and continues to be free with dedicated servers then Home pull ahead BIG time!

As gamers, everyone should be excited about this because of competition :)
Sony putting pressure on M$ to make Live free and M$ putting pressure on Sony to make a kick ass online service...

Things will get really interesting within a year or two!

One service you pay for the other doesn't, ones open the other is proprietary, XBL is out now Home is out later.
