I wonder why nobody on this forums hasn't posted any pics of this game??
I mean, this game is the direct competitor of Oblivion and looks far better than the next Elder Scrolls installment in my opinion (also uses the SpeedTree Technology)! It's coming for the PC and i guess also for XBOX 360 and maybe for the PS3 later on...

There are rumors around that the game runs with the FarCry Engine.
But the Dev team said they had to develop a specific one which focuses on the rendering of nature surroundings and such stuff...
The most part of the engine is developed on their own. Besides this they licensed several components of other engines.

- Developer: http://www.gothic3.com
- Publisher: Aspyr Media (most probably is going to publish the next installment of Gothic/ already published Gothic II

There's some new video footage of the devlopment of this game recently being broadcasted on a german TV channel...

Found a translated version of this TV report:

Essen in the Ruhr Area. Piranha Bytes is the name of the company developing the 3rd part of the game Gotic 3. Gothic is a fantasy RPG. Like in the two parts before, the nameless hero fights in the 3rd part against exploiters and opressors in the form of orcs. The intro sequence of Gothic 3 continues at the point of the end of Gothic 2.

The nameless Hero sails with his crew to the mainland and into a new adventure. A lot of details and innovations are still a secret, because the game’s not finished yet.

But that’s for sure: Gothic 3’s graphical technology doesn’t have to hide behind games coming from the USA or England. The 19 people of the Piranha Bytes team are working hard on the detailed and wide gameworld of Gothic 3.

Till a game is finished, you’ve to do detailed work with several teams lasting years. Designers are creating drawings by unsing the computer. In comparison to the game before, Piranha Bytes rised the number of polygones and objects by factor 10. 50 percent of the graphical work is done by hand and then transfered to the computer. Details and realism are very important. Naturally, heros and orcs must be able to move fluently. Motion Capturing (a kind of moving technique) makes it possible. 3d artists create the Gothic world. For example, two islands have to be connected so that the edges aren’t visible any more. A programmer team puts together all the parts of the game. Cryptic numbers and formulas are the secret and so we weren’t allowed to show nothing of that. For Gothic 3, a completely new computer engeine was written, so that the game will look realistic and detailed. Game designers are responsible for game design and story. They plan and create the whole game. Everything must be playable in one part.

The game designers use the well-working gameplay of Gothic 3, but naturally there’ll be also some innovations. Very important for the Piranhas is the soundtrack. In the first parts of the game, the music was created with the computer, but that changes in Gothic 3. Music plays an important role and is played by singers, drummers, a gosple choir and an orchestra. Kai Rosenkranz is the componist of the Piranhas. He plays the titles on the keyboard, which are transferred directly to the computer. Kai has developed his own concept that stears the music in the game automatically. But that’s not all: The music titles were played by an orchestra in summer 2005. The “Bochumer Symphoniker” and the dirigent Dr. Hans Jaskulsky (music director of the university of Bochum) were engaged. Kai was present during the records. It was a moving moment for the 22 year old componist. The “Bochumer Symphoniker” have already played film music, but music accompaning a computer game is new for the orchestra and requires a lot of engagement and empathy. Stephan Cahen and his colleague Jin Choi are the art recording leaders and responsible for the tone. They were giving instructions for direction. All records were recorded by computer. The orchestra had to play the music without knowing the game, because it isn’t finished yet. That’s very complicated, because in the game the music has to fit exactly to the scenes.
But not only the orchestra was engaged for the soundtrack. In July 2005, the japanese drummer band Gocoo was brought to Germany by airplane. They deal with the background music, the screams of the orcs and the arena fights. One voice from the soundtrack also comes from the United States: Lisbett Scott (for example the singing voice of Prncess Fiona in the film “Shrek”) was engaged for the records. Apart from that, the SAM Gospel choir took part, who is responsible for the choir arrangements. Last but not least there are the solo musicians Marc Iwaszkiewicz and Borislaw Slavov who create the music for special locations in the world of Gothic 3 with extraordinary instruments like Didgeridoo, Bawu, Du, Saz, Tamboura, Mandoline and Indian Santur. Gothic shall be finished in the spring of 2006, then will also be the time when the music is implemented into the game in a studio. Till then, we’ll have to be patient, but that’s worth it.

- Top left bubble: Each roof is made of polygons to deliver a much more realistic feel of the wooden roof
- Bottom left bubble: As Gothic II already did, you gotta enjoy the oppotunity to look deep into the wide world (look through the door offers you the view of a lake that lies in front of the town)
- Top right bubble: To achieve a beliefable look of the hauses' brickwork (you know what i mean ^^) from different angles of view, the bricks on the walls edges are modeled with polygons, not just a bumpmap texture
- Bottom right bubble: In Gothic III the characters feature 10 times the amount of polygons what the chars in Gothic II have to offer...therefore detailed faces can be realised for the first time (sadly mimic animation is not mentioned in this context...i hope they implement it...U/E-Cap technology, anyone?)

gothic 2 was a great rpg, but i my opinion it isnt the graphic that makes a rpg great, so i dont care if its better or worse than oblivion, to a certain point of course, its how the story and gameplay makes the world believable and fun to play,Atleast that is what i think.

These are real screenshots.....if you visit the website about SPEEDTREE middleware, the site talks about how Speedtree is used in games to create lush forests. The screens are early shots though you must remember.

Speedtree's stuff is so cool, I've got all their demo exe's. Can't wait to see more games using their stuff. I know Insomniac's using it in I-8.

Are't you interested in this game or why do only some people post here?
I mean this game is going to be the direct competitor of Oblivion...
Its worth a discussion which game does make a better impression...
My first guess is that in Gothic III you will play throughout the whole game in 3rd person view, fights included (there is one pic here where a guy fights some giant rat like monsters)
But i would also appreciate a 1st person view in fights cause this makes the fight much more dramatic...like its the way in Oblivion.

MotorStorm Dev talks PS3 and advances in Pacific Rift
By: Justin Pinter

Continuing our discussion (http://www.psu.com/Evolution--Pacific-Rift-offers-better-AI,-more-tracks,-the-works--a0003928-p0.php) with Paul Hollywood, Evolution Studios' Creative Director, we were treated to a few great details on what gamers can expect to see in MotorStorm Pacific Rift as well as how the PlayStation 3 will bring about more than just mere graphical advances.

"One of the beauties of the PS3 is that you can do so much processing in parallel," remarked Hollywood. "Setting it up to do that requires careful planning of course, but it means you can really make it do some special things. What gamers will tend to notice most will be the graphical advances, but the power of the console goes deeper than that. The audio, the AI, the effects, all these things, and many more, have really come on for this game."

We then continued on to discuss Pacific Rift's key improvements over the first MotorStorm. While the original was a brilliant game, a sequel is expected to be, well, bigger and better. Here's what Hollywood had to say on the topic.

"The Island is obviously a big new aspect; it means we can have races in much more varied types of environments than before," explained Hollywood. "We’ve also added the monster truck as a new vehicle class, which presents the player with an entirely new aspect to the racing. If you’re driving one, you can have as much fun just driving over your competitors as you can using its immense power. If you’re racing against one instead, well you’d better have a good exit strategy."

"We’ve spent a lot of time on our multiplayer features too," he continued. "We got countless requests for splitscreen last time, so that’s been in since day one and is great. And we’ve also made our online play more robust and with more features to make it an easier, more friendly experience. But they’re just the tip of the iceberg really; you’ll have to play it to really understand that it’s all new, but with the same MotorStorm attitude."

MotorStorm Pacific Rift is set to release sometime this October, but stay tuned to PSU.com as we'll have more coverage of Evolution Studios' newest addition to the MotorStorm franchise soon.
