I just recently purchase my 2nd 360, and I am almost positive I have a new model with a new heatsink. How do I confirm this?

See if you have the new Xbox 360 heatsink without voiding the precious warranty (http://benheck.com/08-02-2007/see-if-you-have-the-new-xbox-360-heatsink-without-voiding-the-precious-warranty)

Or as I call it “DIY Xbox 360 Endoscopy”.

The lens should “focus around” all the small holes. Be sure to use a flash so it lights up the inside.

As you can see my XBox 360 Core, purchased in June with a build date on the faceplate of 11/07 does not have the new heat sink since we can see straight through to the side of the DVD player. Darn. Good thing I kept the receipt.
So now everyone can check their new Elites, Premiums and Cores to see if and when the new heat sinks started showing up in units. You can find a manufacture date behind the not-voiding-to-remove faceplate, which of course is just the date of the faceplate but should give some indication.

What the new extended GPU heat sink (left) will look like in comparision to the standard CPU heat sink.
Share what you find on your Xbox(s) below, and let’s get this nailed down!
Added: The info sticker from the Elite I found a new heat sink in:

Here is the most popular article that I've seen on the subject. Hope it helps.

Thanks, someone said something about if the serial number starts with "7709". Anyone know anything about that?

Well that Elite above in the last pic has a new heatsink and it starts with 20812 and it was made in March.

There is another basic guide here also:http://www.weplayxbox.com/2007/06/20/feeling-cool-how-to-tell-if-your-repaired-xbox-360-has-the-new-additional-heatsink/

Mainly just looking up its rear end and finding what wasn't there before.

Sorry to rain on people's hope but it has been confirmed by many sources across the net by people I trust that this does nothing but lower the temperature slightly. As in the original design the X-clamps remain, due to the pressure the warping still exists.
