Well...
I have sorta noticed a trend with updates.. usually the last week of the month and sometimes on the last thursday of the month...

So whats the odds on a new firmware this thursday? just curious and i havent seen anything out yet about them...

im not saying its gonna be 2.0 but it could be 1.91 or something?
any news?

Doesn't seem like we will be getting one this month. If we do, I doubt it will be 2.0 being we haven't heard anything about it. So if there is, it will be a minor fix or detail.

I kinda think different from you all. Sony has been doing a lot of stuff the last minute, and with them not telling us... They will save from a lot of lag. Can you imagine how many people will force a download of HOME... Knowing that there is one 50,000 open slots from HOME Beta... Remember the completed version is not until october. And they did say it would be at the end of August. Sony love the last minute supprise. I dont know. Maybe 2.0 will be out a 12:00am... Just check and see.

I don't see anything happening until 2.0, they will want to hold off until then to make it seem like a great update, which it will be...I hope

why does everyone think there will be a firmware update? due to the firmware update for the Panasonics (http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=435) i think the ps3 should be due...but who knows...

what all is speculated about the update?

so far i have read:
in-game xmb
bd-j enhancements (blu-ray)
HOME

anybody have anything else??

Always looking forward to an update but to be honest not interested in personalised soundtracks, the first thing i do in any game is turn off the music.

personilazed sound tracks will do well with certain games like MS or LBP and also NFSPS

yeah we're not saying there is going to be one... we're just speculating that there possibly might be one seeing as though they usually fall within the last week of each month?

i do hope we got some kind of update whether it be big or small, just so that theres something new with the PS3 for a while lol heck i got excited when i found out i didnt need to leave my bed to eject a disc haha

the ps3 is the only console that gets firmware updates isnt it? (not including the handhelds like the psp etc)

i mean i havent heard of M$ giving away firmware updates?!

they have term updates 2wice a year which is crap, they only get 1 or 2 new features. i believe sont has won the war and it hasn't even began yet.

definatly.. soon devs will be noticing the true advantages of blu-ray and what the PS3 has to offer even if they havent already..

such as Insomniac, who are a great game developing company, with games such as Resistance and Ratchet & Clank... they're puttin the PS3 through its paces every time they make a new game...

and firmware updates will play a big part for these kinda devs

Arsenal4Ever

exactly aswell, all i can say is 360 owners are jealoyus of our blu-ray, and im no fan boy becasue i like both consoles but 360 breaks every 5 seconds so ps3 is far better.

A nice snippet I got from the Official PS3 mag was that the guys that deal with the updates reckon they'll be able to get another 30-40% processing power out of the PS3 through the firmware updates.
And it'll be a gradual increase over a period of time.

So it's gonna be another year or two before Sony's baby is anywhere near full power, then another year or so for the devs to use it.

After reading this, the ten year life span Sony are talking about seems like a reality. I'm glad I chose this kiddie as much as I like some of the Xbox games.

There's a high chance 2.0 will come out with Home that would possibly allow features such as Home access from in game XMB?

*sigh* this is what the forums are coming too? every thread about PS3 always ends up with something about 360 being crap. Is it possible our members are fearing the 360 success?

No. The xbox is crap. Why would we fear it.http://209.85.12.234/2230/185/emo/whitey.gif

Yeah I've gotten into the doubting mood. Something in my head (maybe the squirrel that lives in there) tells me that we'll not get a FW update this month. It would be too good to be true... An amazing game like Warhawk just comes, then a FW with in-game XMB to cover all messaging... It's just too good.

No, there are major updates twice a year and a number of small ones throuhgout - they just take about 15 seconds to download and install [there was one a few weeks back] and it's automatic.

Nothing wrong with only a few new features when they're things like:

In game MSN integration though/downloading while in low power mode S07
1080p support/Video streaming from any PC/XNA/HDDVD A06
Background downloads/queue / Custom gamer pics/ Music persistance between games S06

Think about it, too put an extra XMB icon on to the XMB you would need to program it onto the hardware (In this case it would be the Home Icon).. That WILL be when 2.0 comes out.. (I feel almost 100% sure because i heard Sony arn't going to do another .01 before 2.0..)

I know some will argue with my statement with the Demo logo in the XMB.. Yes that is there because it's in a specialised program zone, too put another Actual Heading-Logo on the XMB you would have to program the XMB's part of the actual Hardware.

I think if firmware 2.0 comes out and in-game XMB is not incorporated, everyone should be really worried.

I think Sony knew it's an important element way before people were clamoring about it on all the message boards. They obviously have engineers working on it. If it's not in 2.0, I think it pretty clearly shows there is some kind of engineering problem with it.

Such as the APIs for the games were first made in a way that doesn't allow Sony to load the XMB while the game is paused in the background.

Best case scenario - 2.0 includes in game XMB access with everything users want
Goog scenario - 2.0 includes XMB access with some of the most requested features with the rest added in later firmware updates
Bad scenario - 2.0 includes no XMB access for all games, only the ability for future games to support XMB access
Worst scenario - no XMB access at all.

That's my $0.02 on how it will play out. I think PS3's biggest weakness altogether is how unprepared they seem to be with regards to the APIs and the ways in which their software partners' software will interact with the PS3 and a plan for how those interactions will work in a standardized way to support all the features of the PS3 (both now and future plans).

If it's not in 2.0 I'd be very very worried.

I've heard that 2.0 is going to be the next firmware update. But I doubt we'll see anything this month. Or even next month. It will definitely come out with Home. .....When is Home coming out anyway? September or October? And which day?

There's also a freaky scenario, where we discover all that reserved OS memory is for in-game Home, the users go wild, and developers riot for resources getting wasted in such a way.

If we get to Friday night with no firmware update, this will be the first month ever with no update at all. Every single month this year has had at least one update (the trend was one major update per month, or several tiny updates a month). If we don't get one this week, the 7 month firmware update streak will be done :(

I kinda liked counting the consecutive months of firmware updates. Oh well, we still get them a lot more often than the other system

Well with so many speculating that 2.0 will come with Home I'm going to go the opposite way. My reasoning is simple, I'm sure that there are parts of the FW that Home is dependent on, because of that you're looking at a two part install which is an unneccessary risk to take on a major update. You also want a buffer period in between if possible to assess the impact of the FW changes. Since there's going to be an open beta, you want these FW changrs in before that is released too. Unless the update package is not ready to go, I see no point to delay and many advantages to proceed as soon as possible. That said, with the NA Warhawk release today and the EU release Thursday I don't see it being this week.

08-30-2007, 02:01
And didn't Sony say that we're suppose to get 1 update EACH month for one year? Then after the year, it will take longer? That's what I remember. I think well get a update this month. Whether it's today or Friday, I think we'll get it. I'm taking Sony's word for it.

I don't think there will be ANY firmware updates this month. Updates to the store as per usual, maybe a surprise demo even, but no firmware update. The reason I think this is the delay of the EU release of Warhawk to Thursday to match with the normal updates. If there was a big firmware release that was coming out as well I think they would have delayed the Warhawk release in ALL regions to match up with it.

I'm fine with no update now as well. We're pretty good right now and I'd rather they concentrate their efforts on getting all the features rolled into firmware to go along with Home. They only have about a month for that IF there's going to be a Public Beta as well. Even if there isn't, only two months till Home goes Live, if they are to meet schedule, which I think they will.

Maybe support for digital cameras. Tiger Woods '08's GameFace feature has an option to hook a DigiCam directly to the PS3 but the PS3 doesn't support that right now. Maybe EA knows something...

Don't expect another firmware update for a while. I think they are happening as and when the features are ready and fully tested (think how many bugs you have found... or not).

I think Sony pull what's done, and wrap up a release, in the past, but the focus is now on the big features that are still missing (ingame messaging, music, home integrations, PlayTV etc). The small releases in the past were to appease owners.

I predict 2.0 in October, with home integration, and a few other features. Further down the road (3.0?), In Game invites and ingame music.

My guess is the 2.0 will come Nov 1st, Thursday.

Home was still in beta until Nov? ... perfect time to really release it, with all the rest of the 2.0 patch.

i dont even care when we get the update i just care about is that we're getting the update, i say we give sony a break and let them work on the update because we're gonna get it anyway i mean even if we bug them they're still going to do it at the same speed so i suggest we all relax and just be thankful that we're getting the update. who cares if it takes a year because all we know is that they're trying hard!!

What does this have to do with FirmWare Update?^^^^^^I've had the same 360 since launch and have never had 1 problem with it. I have both the PS3 and 360 and love them both. Each one has its Pro and Cons. Next time try to stay on the subject.
