PSP BATTERIES TO GET JUICED UP?

Sony researching tech that boosts lithium-ion battery life by 30% - wonder why they're so interested in that?

That's great! Hopefully they will release the batteries before the US. Launch.

that would be nice, but as we have heard before that the battery life for the high quality graphics games was more of around 2.5 hours this would come down to only .5 hours of extended life for these games. I'm not being negative but sony has to make a huge breakthrough, or create a whole new type of battery for the PSP to really jack up the time.

That was just speculation of the battery life BEFORE the PSP was released. The truth is people are playing games like Ridge Racers for over 4 hours. And at 4 hours that would add about an extra hour and twenty minutes of gameplay. Thats good if you ask me. To play Ridge Racers for about 5 1/2 hours straight.

Are you sure that is correct? because i got my information, about the playing time with games with higher end graphics, from sources that actually played//used a PSP not just specualating off what sony said or ect.

are you sure because i heard that got that high qaulity graphics playing time from ACTUALLY playing the system.

I would most likely be able to help you there Crimson if I had any idea what you are trying to say.

Yeah, i read that someone was able to use 10 hours for music, and 5 hours for Ridge Racer. Ofcourse, this battery will be sold by itself. When it is released, i'm going to sell my psp battery and buy the new one.

Crimson_King

that is pretty good, but im waiting to buy the PSP by itself, minus bundle, and it would be really cool if they had that battery as a standard then, especially for the 50 bucks there tackin on to US...

Kojo

Cool. I guess i'll buy that untill the new lithium is released.

Interesting news this. We all know that PSP's battery life isn't exactly great, but I think an extra 30% is great news none the less. Still, I don't really think PSP's battery life is really something to complain about. I mean, who plays Ridge Racer for five hours straight? And if you do, just plug it and play off the mains. If your in transit, then I guess your screwed, but then again how often are you in transit for five hours straight, or 10 hours if your listening to music?

i happen to be in use of more battery time. I do a lot of traveling and if i could have longer battery life it would save me a lot of money on having to buy extra batteries. but this improvement on the battery and the carrying case i listed earlier should do the trick for me.

I checked another PSP site and it said the battery will be $76 dollars, and will charge the PSP by 25 hours!

FmanFORPS3

which site did you check? only 76 dollars for a 25 hour battery? seems unlikely but if this is true, I highly doubt that there will ever be a battery length issue again...(if true, this battery is a definit for me )

18 hour after the PSPs battery goes dead. Man thats a big battery.

I guess if you can handle carrying that around maybe in your pocket or something, then it’s great.

If they could design something that small that can keep the PSP going for that long, I don’t understand why they couldn’t make a battery like that that goes right into the PSP :?

(I'm not sure but if I understood correctly, you don’t have to plug it in anywhere :? if I didnt understand it correctly, please just let me know...)

EDIT: yes pbm, but i guess your saying that i'm wrong :?

Did you go to any of the links I suggested?

Yes it is, but I think if you're going to be playing that long, you're most likely going to be in one place, such as a road trip or an airplane ride,...

lol, ok then, and yes that’s what I was confused about, how would it be a battery if it was plugged in :?..I only got the idea cause I kept on seeing 'USB' so I thought it had to be plugged into the computer or something...man I’m confused...I'll just stop myself now before I get a headache

So from reading that I asume that you could not have it plugged in all the time and just use it to recharge ur psp then? that would rock.

FmanFORPS3
02-19-2005, 02:01
actually, that might work, although I dont think it will recharge the PSP, but it will recharger the actual 18 hour battery attchement so you could play for longer than 18 hours, although I dont...

Crimson_King
02-19-2005, 02:06
what are you talking about?
before what I was trying to say is that instead of just using that huge thing all the time you could use it to recharge your PSP or when power is low.

FmanFORPS3
02-19-2005, 02:13
oh, lol, I thought you were saying if it was possible to plug in that 18 hour battery so it can recharge the system...ok nevermind.

Ok, i have bought the Febuary issue of OPSM2 UK (thats offical playstation mag) and they got their hands on a PSP direct from Japan, So they did a battery life test to soothe the fears that the battery is short. i must admit that the battery life would last me all day, so Heres the times:

Sleep Mode.... Almost infinity!

Games mode ... varied on what game your playing (4 to 6 hours)

Wi-fi mode.... like an American eating 20 big mac's (2 hours)

MP3 Mode.... not optimized for the job but it can go against iPOD (10 hours)

Movie mode.... The guys at OPSM2 didnt have a UMD movie but they ported some onto their Memory stick. (2 hours +)

They are some good times, i dont know if they used the new li-on battery but it would last you all day, abouts. Also plans are going ahead to connect the PSP with the PS2 useing a USB cable, so you can unlock content inbetween games, example: You compleate metal gear AC!D and you will have unlocked some movie content, and bonuses on MGS 3.

So what do ya say to that members...

Personally, it's what I would expect and I'm perfectly happy with those times. Considering PSP can do so many things, I think it's being a bit fussy to then complain about battery times, which to me seem perfectly reasonable. And now, there is potentially an even better battery onthe horizon so things are certainly looking up!

No complaints from me. I think people or REALLY under estimating this whole PSP to PS2 connection thing. The PS2 will be widely played for another 1 1/2 to 2 years. Connectivity between these two devices will be lovely. I wish with games like GT4 they sell them in bundle packs with game saves being carried from one system to the other. Buy GT4 for your console and mobile for $80.

Would you guys go for that deal?

I would go for that deal if I wasn't buying GT4 tomorrow.
