View Full Version : Halo 3 or Half-Life 2: Orange Box?

I really have to know how people feel about this. Which one are you expecting more/want to play more? Which do you have higher expectations for? Etc.

Also, explain why you chose the one over the other.

I can't so I'll take both. If I had to pick only one of the two I guess the answer is simple, I'd kill myself.

Getting both. Choosing between the two IS NOT an option.

I already have Half-life 2 on PC...and completed it a kibillion times. It is great...but Halo just has that special something.

I believe the word you're looking for here is "Hype"

I wish I could have added the Both selection in the poll, but I can't now.

Only one real answer here. Orange box got 95% in PC gamer magazine (thats a very good score to get from them). They said its the best videogame package in history.

I simply couldn't choose. Where's the "both" option?

Both. TF2 is gonna be AWESOME, and it'll be a nice thing to have to escape the children who will be all over halo 3 multiplayer.

Like I said, I can't change it now, I wish I could put in the "Both" option.

Halo 3 if I had to choose one. Half-life, been there, done that.
Plus a series ending game is preferable over a continuation of a game that will be coming out again in another year in another edition- "Half-life 3".

I can't afford all the games coming out this year, so I had to skip HL2 for other games. But really, I have to admit I'm not a fan of the decade old health system. Other than that, I would steal a copy if the opportunity was raised.

Halo 3. Anyone who would pick orange box over it must not have a 360. If orange box had Counter Strike Source that would be a major plus but it doesnt :(

The Orange Box, I haven't played Half-Life 2 yet, and the first Team Fortress 2 was a lot of fun, so I got high hopes for the sequel.

Too many games coming out before x-mas. COD4 will be my long term purchase so neither is my answer.

I wonder how the poll is going to turn out?

As awesome has Half-Life 2 and all of the extra goodies are, Halo 3 is just a much sweeter treat. Mmmmmm. But of course, I would take both.

Funny, considering both series found a home on Xbox consoles...

I have a 360 and would much prefer orange box, because I get three games instead of one. Doesn't matter how you cut it. Three games with different gameplay in each one? Worth it.

Halo 3? Maybe 7-8 hrs worth of mediocre story, overall same MP as before with minor variants...Same gameplay in both... Not so sure its the same value. If Halo 3 had a real map editor, then it would probably be worth it.

CS is okay, but it is getting old (shadowrun was a successful spin-off the CS concept of gameplay and innovated on it too). I expect Team Fortress to take up the mantle of counterstrike while improving on it by adding character types and abilities.

I hated Half-Life 2 so you know what I chose. That game literally made me dizzy and it just felt ugly...it didn't LOOK ugly, it FELT ugly.

Choosing one over the other shouldn't even be an option!

That made no sense at all.

He's referring to the Global warming south park episode in which Al Gore is trying to convince the town that the man bear pig is a giant threat that exists. He's basically saying that the choice is between being a billionaire or saving the planet.

Lol you dug too deep for that one, but i'll give you half credit.

Being a Billionaire

Vs.

Going on a crazy crusade with a whack job against a problem that doesn't exist.

And it wasn't supposed to make total sense anyways, its just kind of a "Joke" for any and all who have seen that south park episode.

x360 leaves us with too many options, where is the time when a good game just came out once in 3 months, seriously i still have to play bioshock, blue dragon and outfit some gw-chars, it's just halo3 for me and orange box may come at a later time.

I edited the poll, and I chose both. I'm not a PC gamer, so I was introduced to Half Life through the PS2. So I'd say I'd choose Orange Box for single player and Halo for multiplayer.

Why Halo for Multiplayer? Orange Box will most likely leave you satisfied with multi than Halo 3. TF2 will pwn Halo 3 everywhere.

There are multiple reasons why anyone would choose TF2 over Halo 3, and vice versa. I'm gonna defend Fedos and guess that the massive customization will beat TF2, which has no customization at all.

However, with the larger variety of weapons and classes, and also faster paced, have an advantages over Halo 3. I am just going on what you have said. Like one has something over the other, and vice versa.

You can change the shields percent on H3 to make some really fast paced tactical CTF games

Like I said, I'm not a PC gamer, so I've never played Team Fortress. I've played Halo 2 though more than any other game last gen. But I'll certainly give Team Fortress a try when I buy the Orange Box.

I'm getting both. Personally I don't know how you could choose TF2 for multiplayer, with no customization and only one specific gametype for each of like 5 maps, versus Halo 3, the most customizable online FPS ever made, with 12 maps, dozens of gametypes, dozens of new weapons and vehicles, saved replays, screenshots, and a map editor for changing anything from object placement to spawn points.

Single Player is still a pretty obvious choice for me, even though Halo and Half Life are my top two favorite franchises. An all new, lengthy Halo single player campaign, and the best yet in the series, versus only one new HL2 episode worth of narrative content. I'm still glad I don't have to choose because I love both stories, but if I absolutely had to I'd pick Halo 3 in an instant.

I think that may have been the point in that game though, LOL. I remember being impressed by the graphics, but what really did it for me was the ambiance: it simultaneously made me want to play and not play Half Life.
For sure, Halo is much more welcoming a game.

First, LOVE your avatar! Pot and tea kettle.

I'd agree with you that none of the individual pieces of the Box is worth Halo 3. All three of them together make for a more varied and interesting package though, IMO.
You have the single player story in both, and though I'm eager to finish Halo--and the main reason I want to play the game is to finish the story--story is undeniably Half-life's strong point. When you consider that you get the original Half-Life 2, and both episodes 1 and 2, it's definitely a point in Half-life's favor. These "episodes", though, may be the first real stumble on Valve's side, so we'll have to see how they pan out.

The MP gameplay in the Orange Box will be a different game (gameplay) altogether, so that to me is already more interesting (2 different games in one). Halo's massive customization is a great thing that may prove to be the best thing since sliced bread (even by PC standards they have more options no?), but I put more stock on varied gameplay than gameplay options (having access to only snipers a new game makes not).

Finally, Portal just seems whack. The other two together would have made for a complete package in itself, but adding this just makes it crazy. Completely original concept (portals were done well in Prey, but never at the player's command), this will make for an interesting puzzle.

Portal just looks plain RIDICULOUS. In a very, very good way.

Well, in the end I'm getting both.

But which one would I choose if I had to pick only one, which one do I have pre-ordered, and which one can't I stop thinking about? Halo 3.

Halo 3 or Half-Life 2: Orange Box?

IMO I'd and I will go with both.

But if you are low on cash buy Halo 3 first!

I think Half Life 2:Orange Box can wait a little longer...

I wow'd.
You're saying = "Hey, you get this games:

Barbie Horses Adventures
Army Man Mayor Malfunction (sad thing is i have this one x) but it was just a present :p)
Atari Game Collection

Haha 3 games with different gameplay, take that Halo 3 "

Anyway, both will be great games, but Halo 3 wins in my book.
