*'The Last of Us' Has The Biggest Launch Of The Year With 1.3M Sold*

We can talk about the review scores (http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2013/06/18/the-last-of-us-isnt-a-game-about-choices/) and the endin (http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2013/06/17/coming-to-terms-with-the-difficult-ending-of-the-last-of-us/)g (http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2013/06/17/coming-to-terms-with-the-difficult-ending-of-the-last-of-us/) all we want, but there’s one more aspect of The Last of Us that we should be highlighting here. It’s the biggest game of the year so far, selling 1.3M copies in its first week, besting BioShock Infinite’s 1.16M sales over the same period, though you can take the unofficial numbers (http://www.vgchartz.com/article/251046/the-last-of-us-opening-week-sales-estimates/) with a grain of salt.
Those aren’t Call of Duty numbers, but its hugely impressive anyway for a few reasons. First, this is a new IP, the first game (and possibly last) in a completely new and untested series. Yes, it’s from trusted developer Naughty Dog, behind PlayStation 3′s hit Uncharted trilogy, but it’s still a noteworthy accomplishment and speaks to the faith gamers place in the brand.
Secondly, this is an exclusive title for the PlayStation 3, unlike BioShock Infinite which was released on both PlayStation and Xbox, whose sales numbers combined to form that 1.16M. Very rarely can an exclusive titles put up numbers that best multi-platform AAA titles, but The Last of Us has simply struck a chord with gamers and reviewers alike in a way no exclusive, debut IP has in a very long time. This is a huge win for Sony (http://www.forbes.com/companies/sony/) , as they now have yet another exclusive notch in their belt that will prove to be a deciding factor in which console is picked by gamers in the coming war. Those firmly fixed in the Xbox camp are missing out on an incredible game right now.

The question is, what happens now? With obvious, strong interest in the game, is Naughty Dog “required” to make a sequel by video game law? Without giving anything away, when most people finish the game they’ll conclude that it’s a rather complete story that doesn’t feel like it needs a sequel. That said, such a thing isn’t out of the realm of possibility as the main character(s) could return for a new adventure, or theoretically a sequel could star new characters set in the same dystopia.
If I had to guess however, I would bet that Naughty Dog is indeed developing some sort of Uncharted title for the PlayStation 4 as we speak, despite nothing of the sort being shown or even hinted at during E3. I just don’t think they can resist the temptation to go back and use that brand again, as well as showing off what sort of harrowing destruction Drake can create using the new power of the PlayStation 4. That doesn’t mean we won’t see a Last of Us sequel at some point, but if we do, I’d guess it won’t be for a while.
If you’ve bought and played The Last of Us, have you recommended it to friends? Do you want to see a sequel, or is it best as a stand-alone work?

*PlayStation Plus Facts*

* - Your PlayStation Plus subscription will carry over to the PlayStation 4.

* - PlayStation Plus subscription is required to play online multiplayer games. Free-to-play games DO NOT require PlayStation Plus.

* - If you're a subscriber of PlayStation Plus then every month you will receive a new game for free for you shiny new PlayStation 4.

* - DriveClub will be included during the launch of the PlayStation 4 as a free game via PlayStation Plus.

*Region Lock* - PlayStation 4 does NOT have region locking.

*Social Aspects* - PlayStation 4 allows for cross-game chat and cross-game video chat. Players will also be able to watch their friends play and vice versa.

*PlayStation 4 Friend Remote Play* - Users may help their friends get through a difficult part of the game via remote gameplay across the network and take control of their controller if the owner allows it when the other user sends in a request.

It is currently unknown if players can unlock trophies via remote-play help.

*Friend List Limit* The amount of friends you can have on you PSN account has been vastly increased. However, the exact number is currently unknown, but the PlayStation 3 only allowed you to have 100 friends.

*Online Downloads* - PlayStation 4 will be able to pre-download content as your playing the game. For example: Let's say you went to the digital store and decided to press X to buy/play the game. You will start playing the game the instant you hit the buy button and you will not have to wait for the download.

While you're playing the first level of the game, the second level is already being downloaded in the background and so on. You may also choose to download the multiplayer portion first or vice versa depending on what you feel like playing first at the moment.

*Digital Content* Every single PlayStation 4 title that is being released will be available day one on it's release via Digital download alongside the retail copies at GameStop (Unless it's a Digital downloadable title only).

*Video Sharing/Recording* - PlayStation 4 will allow players to video-record their content and even stream/broadcast as they're playing it.

From what we know so far the user can only record the last 15 minutes of the game played and certain parts of the game may not be recordable due to story spoilers and it's up to the developers on how they handle that. However, there hasn't been that much of any new information regarding video recording or streaming since the original reveal of the PlayStation 4 back in February. Hopefully we will hear more on this soon.

*Used Games* - You can trade, sell, eBay and burrow games just like today on your PlayStation 4 considering you have the physical/retail copies of the game. It is currently unknown if you can share accounts on multiple PlayStation 4 systems to game-share like you can on the PlayStation 3.

*Online check-in* You will NOT be required to check-in online for any kind of authentication.

That's it for now guys. Let me know if I missed anything I will add it here.

PS4 start up (boot up animation) screen (opinions)

I have to be honest, the first thing that I remember fondly about the original playstation console when I was a kid was the boot up animation. Of course, the games were amazing at that time and it still is now, but I was in awe of that whole playstation experience coming up in the screen in the form of an animation. It felt almost like you were anticipating a great movie and that alone, made me happy and I am still reminiscing all those nostalgic times and great games with my old playstation console.

I loved the PS2 start up animation but it did come across to me as a bit utilitarian and futuristic which I was not against. The PS3 boot up screen was so ingenious and at the same, it felt like the orchestra sound and that wave animation just solidified that whole PS3 experience.

I am looking for opinions on whether you prefer for the PS4 to completely drop the start up animation or to implement a new kind of minimalist start up animation?

Seriously these guys are pissing me off! After the first few hours of the game the regular Runners seem to disappear and they are replaced with these guys..some sort of stage between the regular Runners and the Clickers..I don't get how the hell they detect me, I assume by sight and sound yet if I get remotely close to them and moving as slowly as I can it seems they know exactly where I am even through walls and they get alerted...pissing me off immensely!

PlayStation’s presence at this year’s E3 was considerable. Naturally, most of Sony's energy was expended on showcasing its brand-new hardware – the PlayStation 4 – but PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita were shown-off, too.

Vita had a surprisingly large footprint at Sony’s booth, with well over 30 games being represented from first-party studios, third-party publishers and indie developers alike. I played 20 of them, each for only a couple of minutes, to give you a little insight as to what’s coming to PlayStation Vita later in 2013 and beyond (!).
