Jack Bauer is officially back: Fox has confirmed its plans to bring "24" back to its airwaves next year.

The show will return in the summer of 2014 as an event series called "24: Live Another Day." Kiefer Sutherland (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000662/) has signed on to play Jack Bauer again, with the story picking up several years after the last season, which aired in 2009. There's no word yet on any other casting.
"Live Another Day" will run for 12 weeks and keep its real-time format, but Fox Entertainment Chairman Kevin Reilly (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3806529/) says it may skip hours here and there.
"As [executive producer Howard Gordon] would design the season, the spine of the 24 episodes was really about 12 hours. Those were where the big events occurred, and then there were little twists and connective tissue in between," Reilly told reporters on a conference call Monday (May 13). Each episode of "Live Another Day" will still unfold over the course of an hour, but »

   Ray Harryhausen, the FX wizard whose early movie magic inspired directors for years to come, died today at the age of 92. Harryhausen created the special effects for films like 1963's Jason and the Argonauts, drawing inspiration from King Kong in a prophetic career long before the dawn of CGI — and it's obvious that his influence runs deep through the rise of digital cinema.
      On his foundation's Facebook page, alongside notice of his death, stand tributes from some of the most famous names in the world of sci-fi and fantasy movies. George Lucas said that without Harryhausen "there would likely have been no Star Wars." Peter Jackson added that Lord of the Rings is his "Ray Harryhausen movie," and James Cameron noted that "If not for Ray’s contribution to the collective dreamscape, we wouldn't be who we are." But it was the digital technology that these directors pioneered that slowed Harryhausen's own work.

for Harryhausen notes that his influence is also recognized in modern-day animators' nods to their predecessor.
   Though Harryhausen was known for animation, the Times obit from Patrick J. Layons explains that Harryhausen's creative influence went beyond that as he "frequently proposed the initial concept, scouted the locations and shaped the story, script, art direction and design around his ideas for fresh ways to amaze an audience."
   Perhaps Harryhausen's most famous work is the skeleton battle scene from Jason and the Argonauts, which according to Adam B. Vary writing for Entertainment Weekly was one of the sequences that "revolutionized how actors could interact with stop-motion effects, a process Harryhausen called 'Dynamation.'"

Iron man 3 - my "review" *major spoilers!*

After months of anticipation I finally watched Iron Man 3 last night. After leaving the cinema I came away with the following thoughts and would like to know what other people have thought about the film.

*WARNING:* I MENTION HUGE SPOILERS HERE SO DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT.

*SERIOUSLY, IF YOU HAVENT WATCHED IT YET, DONT CLICK HERE!*

*IF YOU'RE READING THIS YOU MUST HAVE SEEN IT... OR AREN'T PLANNING TO...*

*CONS*

* No "cool" Iron man moments.
* The iron man suit is basically broken, the whole film.
* No upgrades during the film.
* He covers about 10 flight miles in the whole film.
* He doesn't use any weapons afforded by the suit.
* Pepper Dies & Tony cares for about 4 seconds.
* The Mandarin twist was cool but spits on the fans of the comics.
* Extremis was TOO fantastical.
* Pepper becomes stronger than Iron man.
* Too many people in suits.
* "house party protocol" wasn't used until the end even when it was available the whole film.
* Iron man to Tony Stark screen time ratio all messed up.
* The chest piece was removed (i.e. The iron man taken out of Tony Stark - Doesn't make up for it if you say "I am iron man" at the end).
* No Black Sabbath.
* Too many of the comedic parts were given to other characters.
* Pepper doesn't send any suits or people to look for Tony when she finds out he's ok but lost.
* Tony was limited by his Iron man suits in thier functionality TOO MUCH. There should have been at least one kick-ass scene with all the iron man whistles and bells.
* Saving the falling passengers has an underwhelming climax.
* No part reminded me that he was a genious.
* Film assumes that you've seen the first two and the Avengers... Doesn't explain where war machine comes from and why he is inferior to Iron man.
* References to The Avengers becomes distracting.
* Not even Rhodes used the weapons available to him on the suit.
* Jarvis announces that the mark 42 is finished and is fully flight and mission capable, only for it to fall to pieces as soon as it arrives with epic music... And the worst part is that Tony makes a funny when this happens (not a bad thing in itself but this is moments after his girlfriend dies).
* The actions of the vice president needed more than a 1 second shot of his limbless daughter.

*PROS*

* Themes and story elements were strong.
* The Tony Stark character was well evolved but still grounded to the predecessors.
* Guy Pearce was good.
* RDJ was very good.
* Gwyneth Paltrow was good.
* Ben Kingsly was very good.
* Don Cheadle was good.
* Twist was a nice touch but it left us with a worse villian.
* Mansion being destroyed was visually impressive.
* The Mandarin is great villian.
* The attack on Happy makes it personal.
* After facing aliens and giant space robots, tony still has the enemy in his mind to overcome.
* Pepper in a suit was cool.
* Tony uses his wit to overcome problems.
* Tony gets an hier (kinda).
* A bad guy without robot armour!
* Rhodes shows he's better than Tony at fighting without the tech.
* Some nice juxtaposition of The Suit and Tony.
* Mark 42 looks cool.
* Comedy was used effectively apart from one remark at the end.

Summary:
It was shaping up to be a great film from the begining but halfway through I started noticing more and more of the problems mentioned above. I can't help but think this could've been a 9/10 film if Favreau was still directing as the themes, storylines and acting were pretty solid.

My final verdict is 5/10.

After months of anticipation I finally watched Iron Man 3 last night. After leaving the cinema I came away with the following thoughts and would like to know what other people have thought about the film.

WARNING: I MENTION HUGE SPOILERS HERE SO DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT.

SERIOUSLY, IF YOU HAVENT WATCHED IT YET, DONT CLICK HERE!

IF YOU'RE READING THIS YOU MUST HAVE SEEN IT... OR AREN'T PLANNING TO...

CONS

No "cool" Iron man moments.

The iron man suit is basically broken, the whole film.

No upgrades during the film.

He covers about 10 flight miles in the whole film.

He doesn't use any weapons afforded by the suit.

Pepper Dies & Tony cares for about 4 seconds.

The Mandarin twist was cool but spits on the fans of the comics.

Extremis was TOO fantastical.

Pepper becomes stronger than Iron man.

Too many people in suits.

"house party protocol" wasn't used until the end even when it was available the whole film.

Iron man to Tony Stark screen time ratio all messed up.

The chest piece was removed (i.e. The iron man taken out of Tony Stark - Doesn't make up for it if you say "I am iron man" at the end).

No Black Sabbath.

Too many of the comedic parts were given to other characters.

Pepper doesn't send any suits or people to look for Tony when she finds out he's ok but lost.

Tony was limited by his Iron man suits in thier functionality TOO MUCH. There should have been at least one kick-ass scene with all the iron man whistles and bells.

Saving the falling passengers has an underwhelming climax.

No part reminded me that he was a genious.

Film assumes that you've seen the first two and the Avengers... Doesn't explain where war machine comes from and why he is inferior to Iron man.

References to The Avengers becomes distracting.

Not even Rhodes used the weapons available to him on the suit.

Jarvis announces that the mark 42 is finished and is fully flight and mission capable, only for it to fall to pieces as soon as it arrives with epic music... And the worst part is that Tony makes a funny when this happens (not a bad thing in itself but this is moments after his girlfriend dies).

The actions of the vice president needed more than a 1 second shot of his limbless daughter.

PROS

Themes and story elements were strong.

The Tony Stark character was well evolved but still grounded to the predecessors.

Guy Pearce was good.

RDJ was very good.

Gwyneth Paltrow was good.

Ben Kingsly was very good.

Don Cheadle was good.

Twist was a nice touch but it left us with a worse villian.

Mansion being destroyed was visually impressive.

The Mandarin is great villian.

The attack on Happy makes it personal.

After facing aliens and giant space robots, tony still has the enemy in his mind to overcome.

Pepper in a suit was cool.

Tony uses his wit to overcome problems.

Tony gets an hier (kinda).

A bad guy without robot armour!

Rhodes shows he's better than Tony at fighting without the tech.

Some nice juxtaposition of The Suit and Tony.

Mark 42 looks cool.

Comedy was used effectively apart from one remark at the end.
