It’s that time of year again. While the malls are filled with plump holiday shoppers and the elves are working overtime, we have a moment to slow down and reflect on the year’s best videogames. This is no easy task as 2011 was a stellar year for games across Sony’s platforms. That’s why we are again turning to the community of PlayStation fans to pick the best games of the year. The staff picked the nominees, and while we encourage you to pick your favorite game in each category, you may nominate a game we did not include in each category. This year we’ll combine the community’s pick with the staff’s pick to compile PSU’s Best Games of 2011. This is the official "Best of" vote for PSU's homepage.

Let your voice be heard. Polls close on Friday, Dec. 16 and we’ll start announcing the winners the following week. Try to pick a game in each category so we have a complete shakedown. Please avoid filling this space with lengthy debates about the nominees (simply to make the process easier for us). You can, of course, drop a quick opinion about your picks and we’ll use them in our final 'best of' list.

Game of the Year:
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Obvious Winner!!)

PlayStation 3 Exclusive:
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (Another Obvious, although 3 was the weakest of the trilogy)

Action/Adventure Game:
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (Of course. dark gritty batman versus colorful uncharted)

Role-Playing Game:
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (FFIV or Mass Effect 2. But everyone is exhausting the arrow to the knee comment....PLEASE STOP!!!)

Racing Game:
Need for Speed: The Run (Wish it was motorstorm apocalypse but its going to be another lame need for speed)

Sports Game:
FIFA 12 (Awesome!!!! MLB the show comes close)

Shooter: Its a TIE!!!!!
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - Battlefield 3 (Modern Generic Shooter vs. Generic Military Combat..At least Resistance and Killzone had aliens!)

Puzzle/Platform Game: They were all awesome in this category
