Soooo... around an hour, and I've got 135MB so far. :(
It actually started pretty fast, at about 100MB, it seemed to drop off to dialup speeds lol. I'll put it in the DMZ and see if that helps.

I guess thee are servers dotted around the country in the major cities much like Steam has and some of those servers get saturated quicker than others but PSN doesnt allow us to change content servers manually so some people get stuck on the slow servers.
The assigning of the servers is probbaly done by IP address using geoIP which can sometimes get it wrong seen a few complaints at various ISP forums about Geoip beign wrong.
But if there was more servers there would be more bandwidth.
It really depends on what you need.
That's a personal "which is better" kinda thing. I need an affordable car, good gas mileage... that isn't going to make the Ford Fiesta better than the Ferrari lol. Same thing here. One has better features, for a bigger price.

With PSN it is the purely basic, chat, game info and online play. However with Xbox live you get private chat and party chat or regular chat
