Got a C in German back in High School. Even visited family out in Frankfurt but I must have fallen victim to a form of memory loss because I can hardly remember any of it
One thing I can tell you is the key to learning a second language is to completely envelop yourself in it. Staying in a country that natively speaks the language you want to learn significantly helps as well. But dedicating at least a little bit of time every single day to learning your language of choice... just simply being consistent... helps it to stick in your brain. Also... things that you usually say every day... like good morning... or good night... or hello... start saying it in the language you're learning. Or record yourself saying various things you did that day. Like "I went to the movies with friends"... then learn how to say that in Russian or Mandarin Chinese or whatever it is you're studying. When you associate real life situations with another language, it helps grind it into your brain and lets you absorb the language on a more personal level. Making friends with people that natively speak the language you're learning also helps immensely. They can encourage you. There are also video chat language websites that allow you to talk with someone... say someone who speaks Russian... and you can help with with their English and they help you with your Russian. There's about 800 billion cool ways to learn a second language these days. Technology breaks down a lot of barriers.

My main would have to be catalan and spanish. English is actually my 2nd language. I also know some intermediate french too.
Apart from English and Tagalog; know some phrases and terms in Spanish and Portuguese but nothing to hold my own - I've learnt 'Fanboy' and 'Stealth Troll' form some of our fine members (many of whom are still with us to this day)!
Dutch is my first language, but I also speak English fluently and I can have normal conversations in both German and French. I'm currently learning Turkish so maybe I'll be able to speak that too soon.
I only know english but my wife is very fluent in english and nagging, sometimes known as bitching.
