So is the Wii U and the Wii.
I predicted the Wii U would suck...Wii had the novelty effect, that's not going to work again. The grandma isn't going to camp out for it.
Did you miss Wii U's numbers? lol.
Though, as far as handhelds, Japan never turned towards Sony to begin with. Overall, I think they still like Sony more than Nintendo.
Unfortunately it is doing even worse in the US (I assume the same for every region) with only ~55k systems sold for the month of January(likely to get worse).
With no big system sellers until this fall/winter (if there are no delays) and the reveals for the PS4/720 coming up it is going to be a terrible year for Nintendo as far as the WiiU is concern.
I am not even sure if the fall/winter releases for the WiiU will be enough to turn things around with the PS4/720 being released around the same time.
The PS3 was doing even worse than PSV once upon a time. PSV is a handheld, it'll post some big numbers eventually.
Wii U seems to be a failure worldwide compared to the Wii.

Nintendo are handling the market pretty well
Even compared to the PS3 and 360 if the current sales trend continues. It sold less in January (5 weeks worth of sales) in the US than the PS3 or 360 did in any single month in the US. February is likely to be even worse.
March will likely pick up a little but I don't think MH3U and LEGO City Undercover will be huge systems sellers or sustain an increase for multiple months.
It seems like the usual trend. 3DS is on top, PSP is selling more than the Vita and the Xbox 360 is selling less and less.
