wow they made the godzilla bigger this time i think.
I love it. The short viral video teasers were good too. I've been waiting for a possible sequel to Cloverfield but Godzilla will definitely fill that kaiju craving.
As much as I like the Oppenheimer VO in the leaked teaser, this has so much more atmosphere. And a solid glance at Cranston.
Yeah, I got chills when they showed the burning city and Godzilla moving through the smoke. This movie seriously looks amazing.
I too love the atmosphere of the trailer, dramatic, and not just completely flashing godzilla out in the open. The smoke keeps him covered enough to make me want to see more.
I agree with the points that you have made, Kwes, and that height chart you posted is pretty cool. Fifty metre Godzilla seems comparatively puny to the new incarnation.
Just to compare the two, Clover was a little over 100 meters while still an infant in Cloverfield. I always thought that was terrifying. Godzilla definitely looks stronger though, no doubt because he's fully grown and has his signature atomic breath.
And I love that instead of generating a roar, they used the classic godzilla roar. It shows to me that they are trying to be faithful to the originals.
I think it's great that they used an adapted version of the original design and the roar is fine, but considering his size is considerably bigger (hence the adapted design) then I would think the roar should be changed a little. Probably deeper, but that's really only if the argument comes up otherwise I'm cool with it.
Speaking of debates, I've been reading comments on other sites... why are people so irritated by the military presence? Whatevs
Seeing as the halo jump was pretty much the soldiers' descent to hell, the lightning was a nice touch. It goes to show how god-like Godzilla is to us.
What are the odds Cranston gets Godzilla hooked on meth by the end of the film?
I have never watched the old Godzilla movies (only the Broderick one) but this looks pretty good. Looks a lot better than the mentioned one already.
I suppose fans are wetting themselves that it seems they've stuck with the old sound of the beast!
Godzilla is back!
I hope this is as good as it looks. I agree I like that they didn't show him fully. Keeps the anticipation high. And I love that they used the original roar it's perfect.
Doesn't look as good as the last one.
But at least this was official. The last one was a leak.
Honest to god, I hope the plot is, Godzilla comes to land, wrecks shit, goes back to ocean. With some military resistance in there somewhere. A good godzilla movie needs nothing more then that. lol
Watching this on my HDTV with a 5.1 system does it justice that youtube cannot. I'm talking about the trailer, courtesy of keepvid, which you can copypasta the URL into and get an HD res mp4 file.
Anyway, more about the trailer.
Blacksite nailed it with the lightning and making godzilla seem like a god comment.
The musical composition alone with the epic cinematography of the first 30-40 seconds is brilliant. And the music sounds a lot like the music from 2001: A Space Odyssey, when they discover the monolith. That same, creepy and deep chant is also in this trailer and it works so well! I love the shot of the Aaron with his HALO gear on. It actually feels like an anime in that sense, but with a live action touch, and it's beautiful.
Let's hope Akira's adaptation into live action can achieve a similar, or better result.
Very excited for this. Shame it's not shot in IMAX. A monster this big deserves the IMAX treatment. And I don't mean that IMAX 3D shit. I mean, actual IMAX film camera in 70mm stock like TDK and TDKR were shot on. Imagine seeing Godzilla in IMAX.
You hear what you think is thunder, but then it gets closer and louder, even rivalling the first time you saw the T-REX in the Jurassic Park, vibrating the glass of water. The IMAX screen goes big, it's not regular theater resolution, it opens up and behold you is the god of all monsters, Godzilla.
If Godzilla dies in the end, I will consider this movie a failure.
There's no villain that I root for more than Godzilla--when he is a villain anyway, which is not always.
