Side Effects 7/10
It was enjoyable, but probably not a movie I'd see again.
Who watches the Watchmen? Lol
Watchmen 9/10
Jim Jefferies-Fully Functional 10/10- I know we have discussed it in here before but no one really had a problem with me reviewing a stand up. Jim Jefferies has become one of my top 5 favorite stand up comedians. He is raw, unrelenting, and unsympathetic. That is what makes him so great. If you are sensitive to people making jokes out of delicate subjects or situations DO NOT WATCH Jim! Lol. He is about as crude as they come. I'm sure he draws much of his inspiration from George Carlin. This one was just as hilarious as I Swear to God. I was expecting there to be some downside to this one after watching I Swear to God but there wasn't. This guy is awesome. If you like stand up and like crude jokes you will love this guy.
I like a bit of stand up comedy.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island
8/10 because I got to look at Vanessa Hudgens' boobies for long durations of time.
The Last King of Scotland: 9/10
This is my favourite Forest Whitaker roles ever. I love how he portrays the dictator of Uganda. I love his acting. It actually makes you feel awkward in some scenes when he talks to his co-lead actor. Aside from that, nice CTO filter choices on the lenses, and color correction. This is my 2nd time viewing it. The first was when I was working co-op at Blockbuster Video when it was actually still relevant in our lives, and a few hours ago, but on blu-ray this time! The picture quality and sound are superb and there are some nice special features. One is on the actual dictator that this movie is based on and how Whitaker steps into his role, but you get witness accounts and everything, because they shot on location. Highly recommended.
Hotel Transylvania -7/10-
Did you watch the whole stand up or just clips? The first one i watched was I Swear to God. It's slightly better but both are worthy of a 10 in my book. He has his own show now on FX called Legit. I watched a few episodes. Pretty funny.
I've never heard of Dylan.Moran. I'll have to check him out.
I saw a whole dVd the other night from alcoholcaust not his most recent but I did laughed my arse off.
Rush Hour 3 8/10
Five Year Engagement: 7.5/10
I really like these kinds of movies. Nothing is as good as Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but this one was still sweet and good and I really love Emily Blunt so that was a big bonus. Also Alison Brie, another nice bonus.
I give it a year
7/10
Bad Boys 2-8/10
Top Gun: 9/10
Fuck the IMDB score, this movie kicks ass! I just watched it for the first time and I miss Tony Scott even more. After watching some of the insanely beautiful cinematography, I can see that Michael Bay rips off this movie in his movies. He has similar shots with similar color palettes/tones, most noticeably in the Transformers movies.
But Top Gun is a force to be reckoned with. Never have I ever felt so confident watching a movie. Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer and just about every other male actor's homo-erotic line delivery about being buddies makes me wet and confident.
The sound is even awesome, but what I love most is the cinematography. The fact they didn't need CGI, and just decided to film the jets from the air (not to mention the AMAZING cockpit views that make GoPro look like a rookie) makes this movie so much more prestigious than anything today that can also be done realistically, and without CGI.
I really hope there's a sequel, directed by Ridley Scott, and that it takes places decades later with Maverick as the instructor training cocky students. But I bet Michael Bay will unfortunately be hired for this and it'll be about Russians, Chinese, Al Queda or aliens that could be robots, attacking their bases. And some A-list action star will star in it, with some supermodel looking actress, or a supermodel trying to act. Yeah, maybe a sequel is not such a good idea after all.
But yeah, I can see how this movie is a cult classic. It's got stuff in it that you can recite, and even gets songs stuck in your head. And I really regret not being born sooner before the movie came out, because I would have loved to see it in theaters..but I did wonder after watching how awesome it would look in IMAX..and whaddaya know, they re-released it in theaters in an IMAX 3D version. Fuck, I'm so pissed I missed it! Oh well, the good news is that it's on blu-ray! Instant buy!
Silver Linings Playbook
9/10
Not what I was expecting in the slightest. I enjoyed it.
I thought Rush Hour 3 was funny. Yeah, the other two were better, but I don't get the hate for it.
Jackie Brown 9/10
The only Quentin Tarantino movie I hadn't seen until now and I thought it was really good. Not my favorite Tarantino film, not nearly as violent as others, either. Samuel Jackson is awesome and Robert De Niro plays a character that is nothing like his usual shtick. Recommend it to everyone.
