Refurbs last just as long as new ones. One of mine has well over 3000 wu's completed on it, the other about 2500 completed. Those are the early consoles too.
id be on it for sure
i downloaded and installed the v7 client last night and am now running that along with my ps3 and man that was sooo easy to set up and its smp and gpu clients all in one. does anyone know hoe long before the passkey bonuspoints kick in for the smp units?
Is anyone else having problem with stats not being posted with points and wu being completed from PS3's? For some reason, EOC, and F@H are not recording any of my completed work, or points. I looked to see if any servers were down, but didn't find anything, unless I missed something. All my PS3's are uploading, and downloading the wu's just fine, but nothing is being recorded. It just says I got one wu done yesterday, and one done today, and I know im doing my normal work load. This is aggravating!:bang:
UPDATE: I posted a thread on F@H forums, and they are looking into the problem as I write this. Come to find out, im not the only one having this problem. A lot of people that are running PS3 clients are also dealing with this, so it's a issue with PS3 folding only. They should be figuring it out soon. Just wanted to give a heads up. Thanks everyone.
Thanks for the heads up. Would explain the large drop in team output. My PS3 is essentially now retired from folding, my SMP and GPU can more then get enough work done :D.
sign me up. this folding stuff is pretty interesting.

1.000.000 points here i come
Wow, I did not know people actually used their PS3 for Folding still.
Just clocked over 7M! All my PS3s, and pcs did a good job getting me there. My PS3s are all due for a rebuild, specially my 40gig, its been running since March 08. Im pretty sure, the thermal is dried up! :D
Hi all, been taking care of my ill mother. Main page updated.
People still do this Folding shit on their PS3?
Retired my PS3 from that, my PC does all the work these days.
I'm writing a 20 page paper on this stuff as part of my class project.
I've only written a page and a half so far, but it's architecture is pretty neat. It uses distributed computing, multi-core, and SIMD (think gpu architecture) methods to work. My class is for parallel computation, and the parallel part about folding@home is that it gathers all the work units and stuff from many, many machines at once. Basically a single machine can't be used by itself, since it can only do simulations on the order of nanoseconds. The PS3 can do 500 nanoseconds worth of simulation at one point. Anyways, the critical sections of protein misfolding occur during seconds of simulations, hence you need multiple machines to complete a simulation worth noticing. I might have jumbled some of that up, it's been a few days since I last looked at it.
Yeah, Stanford were mega happy to break through the 1 ms barrier a few years ago.
Its a pretty amazing way to show the power of distributed computing against a supercomputer.
well it is with sad news that i have to inform you that my "rock steady refurb ps3" is no more. it died on thursday night and is no longer with us. after almost 1300 wu's for this team it finally gave up the ghost. its not all bad thoug as ive got it fixed and sold it to an electronics store and i got a new slim ps3 on friday lol
Wow, your fatty finally through its white towel in =(rip)= On a good note, the slims run a lot cooler, and use less power. There a little faster too! =)
yeah not bed considering it was a month short of being 5 years old.
