    Questions about PlayStation 3.

Hey Guys, I have some questions regarding PS3.

1)I have a PAL Starter Pack PS3, which have a limited backward compatibility, do you guys know if Sony continues to support backward compatibility via new firmware releases for that SKU?

2)I have an ADSL 2Mbps internet connection, and since I bought my PS3, I never tried to connect to internet, and today I tried, but couldn't being able to connect, I have a D-Link ADSL Modem, the model number is DSL-200 and the cable that I connect my PC to internet is via USB, so it doesn't have any ethernet or such thing, so can anyone knows what should I do, I filled everything correct when I set up my Network Connection from System Settings., but one of the green light didn't light when I connected it via USB, I don't know what to do now.

3)Anyone here installed Linux on PS3? Which type of Linux is best? and do I need to format my HDD to install it on my PS3?

Oh, btw, Can I play Warhawk with 2 Mega Bit Per Second internet connection, because I want to buy it from PS Store when I got connected.

    I really appreciate any help.

    THANKS

1)As far as i know, yes.Every FW changes the BC in some form.
    2)No idea on this.
3)I think YD Linux is best since it was designed specifically for the ps3,and yeah i believe you have to make a seperate partition for it.It doesn't serve of much purpose though, unless you are programmar or something, since it is open-source.
I hope that was of some help.

It is proably in your best interest to purchase a switch or a router. 2Mbps is fine normally but sometimes a dsl service is very restrictive on upload speeds which affects how the game performs and I am sorry but I have not installed linux on my PS3 so I cannot help you with that information.

Oh and on the BC I am not sure about the 40 gig because they removed ALL of the PS2 components while the 60 gig retains a crucial part. From what I hear they are constantly working on upgrades to the BC list for both the full and limited BC versions.

Yes you can play Warhawk fine on a 2mbit connection. I have a 1.5mbit connection and I'm connect to US West coast servers and I live on East coast, and I don't detect any lag

Router, Ethernet cables, port forwarding and you'll be right as rain. All the info is available, if any problems just ask.

I think any broadband connection is accepted. but its out of the question to make your own room in games like R6V or CoD4 etc

    Thread-jack, since I'm apparently a raging newb'-poster..

I bought the PS3 mainly because it was region-free, game-wise.. or so I thought. For some odd reason that completely escapes me, they decided not to make the PS2 backwards compatibility region-free as well. Any idea if they'll ever fix this or is it 'working as intended'?

Yes, you need to format to run Linux. Any of them will work; I went with Fedora because it's the one best supported by the Cell SDK.

I doubt they will fix it. PS2 games are region coded, so they can only be read by their proper regional PS3. PS3 games aren't region coded which is why they're region free.

It's not that the games can't be read; it's that the player chooses to refuse to play them, because, having read them successfully, it observes that they're region-locked.

It's Sony. They are absolutely committed to preserving full publisher control over things like this. They will never let you override region settings.

Hey check this out, look at the top of the PS3 discussion forum page. Read the first thread on the board. What does it say? " Sticky: PS3: Ask a Question".
    How about that.
