Hey guys, i have a question. It seems to me that when watching a blue-ray movie the backround DL doesnt seem to DL. I went to go DL the Kayne and Lynch Demo from the Europe PSN store and put in a Blue-ray movie and then after watching that movie the Demo was still at same percent it was when i started. None of my DLs was downloading, while watching movies. I dont noe why it dont dl while watching blue-ray movies. I think backround only works while playing games but i dont know, anyone have a clue ?

It signs you out when you watch blu-ray movies. I think it does that so that while you're watching you don't see that Laz3rblas7er signed in and out of the network 14 times.

Maybe playing blu-ray takes up so much processing power?

Yeah see that's another thing they should have copied from the X360. When you're watching movies or video content from the HDD, you can set in the dashboard settings to disable messages (meaning displaying friends signing on or seeing what message a friend has sent) whilst watching video content or leave it enabled. This way you're still connected via PSN and able to continue downloading your content.
It does suck a little but when I watch DVD's I use the X360 anyways. Blu-ray's of course the PS3 has me covered.

Oh really!?
So you can watch a Blu-ray movie whilst the PS3 is actively on PSN and download updates can you?
You should read a little more often before trying to take a "dump on my head".
Try not to act with emotion next time and read what I was replying to.
Next time you pull some crap stunt like that I'll report you for attempting to cause disorder without justification.

Must..... resist.....poop....jokes......
You guys can take dumps on each other somewhere else please.
You cannot currently download whilst watching a DVD/Bluray movie. As for watching a video from your HDD I am not sure since most are so short but I think that you can. I am not sure why but it will probably adressed at some point. It probably hasn't yet because there are tons of more important matters. If you really care that much about getting a game download then just don't watch a movie while you have a download going.Everytime someone makes a stupid comment a baby cries...no wonder there are so many crying babies.

I understand where you are comming from. Don't worry, you didn't loose any street cred with me...

That is a fine way around the "issue" being adressed. Heck, watch a DVD on a DVD player even, if you really need that demo right after you finish your movie.
Personally i could not care too much cause the things that I download come fast enough for me. If I really wanted to play one I would just leave the playstation on for a bit while I go do something else. Come back a little later and *ta da* there it is, ready for my greedy little hands.Everytime someone makes a stupid comment a baby cries...no wonder there are so many crying babies.

Last I heard it didn't work during either games or movies, only when you were in the XMB playing music or browsing the net, etc. Something about the download taking memory resources away from the game / movie processing.
Does anyone want to confirm background downloading now works during games?

Last i heard, people are losing their minds about what console to watch DVDs on..
Wait, i have an idea. Maybe use them to play games?

I can confirm tha it WORKS during games. I just don't always get the notification until I close the game or press the home button. Kinda neat when all of a sudden you get a whole bunch of notifications. It's like christmas...
If downloading took more than a completely unnoticable amount of system resources then we wouldn't be able to have downloads going when playing games on our PC's.Everytime someone makes a stupid comment a baby cries...no wonder there are so many crying babies.

I know DL works when playing demos, so I'm sure it would work while playing other PS3 games.
It does NOT work when playing PS1/PS2 game though.
And apparently it does not work during movies, the 360 can do it, so why not the PS3? It must be the higher memory usage.

Good idea! :P
Seriously though I don't need a dedicated DVD player though, seriously PS3 and X360 why should I add another unit to the mix? If I am on PSN downloading a demo or movie, and want to watch a DVD should I refrain because you'll have a smart alec comment? Come on! lol

I hope there aren't a lot of people who didn't realize they could play games while things are downloading...
There's nothing worse than staring at the XMB watching the percentage move up. You could be playing any of your games (not online) and forget that you are even downloading. When you quit the game, your downloads are all ready.

your ps3 downloads in the background and stays connected to psn no matter what you do on it.
the only instances it doesnt is when you play a movie off a disc, a ps1/ps2 disc, or multiplayer on ps3 game.
it will still download if you watch a movie on HDD, or listen to music, or play ps3 game, just aslong as you dont go on multi-player (360 also stop downloading when you go on multi-player).P . S . 3
