This isn't exactly the first time Polyphony sells a demo. And from what I've heard,, they covered a huge chunk (if not all, I don't recall) of the dev bill from selling the GT4 Prologue.

I probably won't buy it either. I'll definetly be getting GT5 but I'd rather wait on my racer till then. I've made it a point to stay away from them so that I have something more to look forward to. There's enough stuff to play in the meantime with Orange Box, Uncharted and Oblivion coming to a ps3 near me soon enough.

Maybe filling a Blu-Ray with all that content cost more than what people thought it would. Lets be serious here, An Xbox360 game will average around 7gigs of content for 59.00 and the average PS3 goes for about 59.00. If Polyphony fills a Blu-Ray with 30gigs of quality content, how could they sell it for 59.00 and not loose money? This goes back to the Blu-Ray Vs DVD thing. Blu-Ray is the superior media but more content=longer development=higher development cost=more expensive end product. There is no other way to see it unless someone at Sony makes a software breakthrough that will cut game development cost by 75% to make up for the 3 X more content we get on a Blu-Ray.

I actually agree with the OP here. Sure I live across the pond, but it'll likely cost between Ģ30 - Ģ45 here, which in my mind is too much for a teaser game.
Now if Sony, Polyphony or a Game Store offered a system in which, if I bought Prologue, I'd then get money off the final game when I trade Prologue back in. I know this is how it works usually with trade ins, but at least I'd be guaranteed to get rid of prologue for a fair price.
Thats the only way I'd buy Prologue, other then that, I'll just wait it out till the real deal hits the UK.

I wouldn't mind paying $40 for it... but I want it to be hard copy and in English...

For me it depends on what's in it. I'm absolutely no hardcore GT player, and have no need for 5000 cars and 750 tracks etc., so I might feel just fine with Prologue for 40 bucks.

*Sigh*....
For one it isn't Sony who decided to sell GT5P. That would be Polyphony Digital. If you are going to blame companies, at leat blame the right ones.
Like others have said, it is 5 tracks and 50 cars. Not to mention it is basically a sneak peak into Gran Tourismo 5. That is more than worth it to many people. Perhaps not to you.
Plus, wouldn't you rather have them recoup the cost of making the most accurate and amazing racing game out there by selling a sneak peak? They could just sell the game for more...or make a piece of crap.
And if you wanted other peoples reactions, why didn't you ask for it in a thoughful manner. No one really wants to hear you complain in a one sentence start to a thread that is obviously going to end badly. This was a poor choice if you wanted a discussion.Everytime someone makes a stupid comment a baby cries...no wonder there are so many crying babies.

I guess GT5 Prologue has more content than many full games out there.
But I guess I know why Polyphony will only release it in Japan: people over here would complain too much about it.

Oh I am sure you could imagine anything you want. I can imagine that videogames can make me fly, but that doesn't make me right.
I have no idea whether Sony are the publishers. Since you are asking the question I "imagine" that you have no idea either. Further, if PD published GT5P, I would assume that they published the other GT games that they have made.
Upon further investigation, following your question, they are an internal company within Sony. However the blame of "gouging prices" still falls within PD. Yes they are a part of Sony but it isn't really Sony in general that is doing it. We all have seen how "well" the different branches communicate with each other (badly).
And even then it still doesn't defunct the other points in my other post.Everytime someone makes a stupid comment a baby cries...no wonder there are so many crying babies.

Purchasing GT5P is well worth it to me, the fact that I get a game [demo] that will be updated constantly until GT5 launches , online races, GT TV, and a host of other options makes it worth the purchase price, also you need to consider the fact that PD is releasing it to the major markets shows that their is big interest in GT5P.

Absolutely, positively.
I am buying this when it is released in the UK.
Ģ20 for the prologue is absolutely fine by me.
And for all you muppets going on about how prologue is just a demo - seriously - all of you f.o.a.d! Heavenly Sword demo, Uncharted Demo, Ratchet and Clank Demo, THOSE are playable demos. The GTP demo - that is also a demo.
Gran Turismo Prologue is a very lare chunk of game with multiple tracks, cars, full online racing and so on and so forth. It has more content than some full games.
So as I said... if you're banging on about GTP just being a demo - f.o.a.d.
