Bouldy looks hard as nails in that picture lol

Anyway, that was an ugly win but a win nonetheless. First half was brilliant and they couldn't live with us, but 2nd half was shambles and we couldn't live with them. Fair play to them for the way they came out in the 2nd but despite that we still didn't concede

Yeah Belhanda missed that opportunity (decent save by Mannone), which was their best chance, but other than that they had a lot of the ball but were unable to get another chance quite like that from my memory. The chip onto the bar from that little diving **** was good. Oh yeah and we were pretty reckless in our own box (Diaby -_-)

Anyway, I think winning ugly is sometimes better than emphatically beating the opponent. Kinda reminded me of Arsenal chasing a game, missing decent chance(s) but not getting the job done

Overall we looked pretty tired. Most our players returned from international duty and played a high tempo game against Southampton. Could have rotated, but 3 points are 3 points. City had a run around tonight as well and we both get to rest until Sunday

We'll ring some changes against Coventry City next week.

Apart from his touch to setup Podolski, I'm beginning to worry about Giroud...Looks totally shot of confidence

I can't believe how $#@!ty Giroud is. He keeps on impressing me with his $#@!Up% when he has the ball. It's like he cant do anything right short of sticking out his leg and tapping it to Lukas. He is slow in every regard of the game. not just running speed, but foot speed and body speed too. He gets the ball taken away too easily and just....he was just $#@!ing horrible today. I hope he explodes soon, because I want to see what a confident Giroud looks like in red and white.

I know what you mean. It's a two way street though, he hardly got much service into him, even in the first half. The 2nd half everyone was either below par, or just crap. I did notice Giroud just strolling around rather lazily at times though - after a header didn't fall to our player or the team had just lost possesion quite close to him. I'm beginning to think the pressure is really getting to him, perhaps he is overthinking every little detail and not letting instinct take over?

So yeah, a lack of service could be blamed for his anonymity. Though, when the ball does get to him on the rare occasion he looks...slow.

    :/.

With how the front 3 combined on the weekend I feel that the system we play or are trying to play may not be right for Giroud. He lacks dynamism. He can't drift to either wings, or drop back and receive the ball in the MF hold it up or dribble with it and play our wingers or MF runners in..

It's as if his main attribute is finishing and making a nuisance of himself, not letting the defenders settle. Well, apart from the finishing he showed those qualities in his first couple games but along with his confidence they seem to be fading away now

Something has to give soon. I wouldn't pick him against City though, Kompany will destroy his confidence even more I feel. Against Coventry makes more sense.

    Edit:

Oh how different things could be if he finished that chance against Sunderland late on, or the pass from Diaby against Liverpool

It is interesting though to see Wenger pursue these kinds of strikers (Giroud, Chamakh, Bendtner) after the technical, ball playing, pacey strikers we've had up front for us in his trophy winning years...
You know, the kind that when the defence is under the hammer you can just kick it out to him and they cause all kinds of problems

Thats what I was wondering too. We're a movement, good touch, passing team. These guys slow that down.

And even beyond ghosting in games (honestly, in his 3 starts, I dont even think he's gotten the ball 15 times. thats his fault too), but beyond this, when he does get the ball or when it does come near him, he usually doesnt do anything good. thus the $#@!up%. in the first half, he got a ball played down the right side and it was only him and one defensemen and i thought "ok, here we go. lets see how you do having the ball and a defender only pressing". He took a touch, the defender stepped in and cleanly stole the ball off his foot in like 3 seconds. The best i've seen is him lay it off for someone else. but thats it.

Missed the match so going to watch the whole thing now on Arsenal Player.

    edit:
-31 minutes in.. I LOVE Jenkinson.. he's improved a lot. Fantastic stuff by Gervinho/Poldi and great assist by Giroud.
-Giroud having a tough night against their Captain.. who he must have faced in training a lot. They have a great centre-back (Yanga-Mbiwa?)
    - Arteta <3 I always love it when Poldi backtracks as well.

    - LOVE how Mannone can just hoof the ball to Giroud and we'll know what happens since he's great Aerially.. 61:14 a great example. I love having a player like that when it is needed.

A Negative: Our midfield defensively was great the first half but it just all fell apart.

We were very poor last night in my opinion but still won, which is the main thing. Even after 16 years we are still bad travellers in europe.

Very good finish from Podolski for his goal and it was a clever assist for Giroud. Gervinho and Jenkinson did well for the second.

Think the midfield was extremely poor. Cazorla was ok but peripheral at best, Diaby was dreadful for most of the game and Arteta didn't play anywhere near his usual standards. It seemed the lack of quality from the middle affected the rest of the team.

But a win is a win. bring on City.

If he can make it past a month of playing, then he should be 100%.

A midfield of Diaby, Wilshere, and Cazorla seems pretty damn good.

    Love him!

Lehmann goes to town on Van Persie

Jens Lehmann has never been a man to mince his words, so it’s unsurprising that he has viewed Arsenal’s decision to sell Robin van Persie to Manchester United in uncompromising terms.

Having praised Lukas Podolski for his instant impact at the Emirates, Lehmann made clear that Arsene Wenger was absolutely right to cash-in on his former captain following his public betrayal.

“When you see a player wants to leave for money reasons and probably because he thinks that somewhere else it is easier to win, you have to let him go,” Lehmann told Laureus.com.

“Particularly when he has only one year on his contract and when he played the first season without an injury in eight or nine years.”
While we fans are always quick to stick the knife into departing players, their former teammates are often rather coquettish when it comes to doing the same. It’s nice therefore that a player who will live long in the memory for his exploits with the ‘Invincibles’ is willing to dismiss Van Persie’s $#@!tishness with one swipe of his big Teutonic hand.

    Arseblog News hails Jens’ honesty

Both Koscielny and Mertesacker who people in this thread have been railing against various seasons have been impressive. Mertesacker has been great this season.

What more can you say.. BOSScielny.

I could never imagine the kind of turn around that Big Mert is having from last year. He is playing sooooo well!! Same with Jenks. Really impressive speed.

Too bad Gervinho couldnt find his finish today. That pass from Ramsey (who ran his engine well today) was perfectly timed. And then at the end, great touches but just a mess of a shot.

Very good game today, high quality stuff but just lacking in the final third. Jenkinson, Mertesacker and Ramsey all had good games on a big occasion. Koscielny has a habit of scoring important goals.

We were well worth the draw, felt we could and should have nicked it. But happy with a point

Gervinho is even more frustrating than Hleb was.

This is just brilliant! Wenger, former players, Yaya Toure!

Clichy visibly upset when Wenger ignores him. "It's only been nine years."

Aguero is incredibly honest. He should have had a genuine penalty yesterday and if he went down he'd of got it too. But he stays on his feet, did the same last season against QPR too.

Refreshing to see. United players dive all over the show, the lot of them.

Arsenal were top yesterday, deserved a point and possibly more!

It's a sad time when not diving has become an honorable exception. Still, good on him to fancy scoring before he fancies diving.

    and yes, $#@! united divers

Not sure about your claim for a peno there dc. Koscielny got himself in the way but I don't think he fouled Aguero. He's good at doing that

What's that about? This is the Arsenal thread why bring a different teams players into it?

Refreshing to see United are still the most hated team though.
