Fabulous result, a tough place to go and win. Really pleased with the 3 points. Composed, battled hard against their obvious physical/defensive/hoof-ball tactics, lethal on the counter, effective substitutions - We really seem like a different beast from last season. I hope the players stay fit and gibbs coming off was just a precaution.
The usual suspects were fantastic once more, and although there were some nervy moments in the game they are to be expected away from home and especially against an Allardyce team (and Caroll), but we played hard and won convincingly in the end.
Diame should have been sent off, and I think Per was slightly at fault for his goal, but having the big German back showed how much we missed him. The 3-4-3 we played with at the end was very interesting - we looked fairly comfortable.
Only blemish performance-wise would be Gervinho not really turning up. I think he misses playing CF ha. But Giroud was very determined and got his reward, as did Walcott. Happy for them both. Giroud still missed a couple golden chances though =P, but overall play was excellent
Santi is just on another level, not only to his team-mates, but he's one of the best in the league - comfortably. Hope he's with us till he retires

weird, i think they're off for some reason. We def didnt have that many shots on target and had more of the ball.

International break sucks.
France vs Spain tomorrow I think, though. I might watch that.

Giroud scored the equaliser tonight against Spain in the 94th minute. Will do his confidence a world of good

Aww

Actually a really good result for France
Koscielny conceded a penalty earlier in the game, Fabregas stepped up and missed.
--
Mertesacker scored his 2nd ever goal for Germany tonight against Sweden. Unbelievably they conceded a 4-0 lead (Arsenal away at Newcastle
) as Sweden scored 4 in the last half hour to make it 4-4. Crazy
Edit: I stand corrected. That's a huge result for France - Giroud is the first Frenchman to score against Spain since Zidane did so 6 years ago.Last edited by Nitey; 10-16-2012 at 23:36.

wowww thats a crazy stat about Giroud. It was a great goal and just a sublime pass from ribery. I was also very happy for 'Sacker too, solid volley in (despite being 5 yards out).
It was nice seeing a 5 man Arsenal representation in those two games.you game? http://www.ps3forums.com/showthread.php?t=55990

Ah, good for him to score. Well done. Hopefully there's more to come for him at Arsenal.
Nice little chuckle from Arsene.
Thank goodness Premier League football is back this weekend! Work was unbearable last weekend with nothing to keep updated on/look forward to in the evening (highlights).

Looking back at it the goal was a stunner. Great movement to shimmy away from Ramos I think it is to give himself room, and then the cross from Ribery was accurate enough... The finish was glorious. So technical.
That's the kind of crosses he's looking for, I hope Gibbs takes notes. Too often the ball is overhit
Tell me about it!

10-17-2012 #5243
take notes Gibbs, play with the talent and awareness of Ribery!

Talent is check, just his crossing ability seems to tick me off in games. Especially when Giroud is playing. Just need decent balls in the box to maximise Giroud's threat

you realize when you have one defender marking giroud and another two in front of him, its not easy to place a ball in. That ball played by Franck was offer a counter attack so there weren't a lot of D and he perfectly picked out Giroud who just shimmied. the pass was sublime, not just a cross in the box.

Of course I realise that. It's just that we often find ourselves in great crossing positions and are let down by the final ball. It's frustrating, including on counter attacks. Though against West Ham we were very clinical I thought, so perhaps that's changing.
It was a sublime pass, but had Giroud not made the perfectly timed shimmy Frank would not have crossed or if he did it would have been in hope - it all came together beautifully though. Giroud often does similar things when playing for us but the problem is our wingers/full backs dont lift their heads up to check where they are crossing, it's the hopeful stuff, and if they have the time on the ball to look up and cross it's often overhit/underhit. Arsenal FC shouldn't have these kind of weaknesses, especially with a big man like Giroud in the box
Podolski knows what he's doing in that position though.Last edited by Nitey; 10-17-2012 at 19:44.

in the last game, poldi had like 4 crosses, all of them found feet. he is soooo good at crossing. I agree our crossing standard needs to step up. Nearly every aerial cross seems to be easily batted away. Maybe Giroud can talk to his wingers/wingbacks and explain how he likes to play and where they should be placing it. But its going to take time to develop that natural understanding, like walcott had with fuckface last year.
