    My first Blu-ray movie experince

Hi guys i just wanted to share my first bluray movie experince . So i rented Rush hour 3 . even though i have a 50 inch hdtv i dont have a hdmi so that resoulition was 480i (composite cable) . it was preety decent experince . i really enjoyed it . even thouth it only 480i it was really a rich experince . the movie ws great and actully there was two disc one with the movie (a little special feture include)anothere with only special feutur such as deleted scenes ,the making, interview stuns etc. (the second dics was a long as the first one ) and that was really cool . and whoever didnt wached it i recommend you watching trust me you will have real fun . finaly i plan on renting more but i think i need a hdmi probably to make my experince even richer . i will give the movie a ten outta ten .

so i live in montreal quebec canada and i rented this movie from videotron . but one think i noticed that before they always had a booth of hd-dvd and one of bluray but today there was no hd-dvd booth and i wonder were was it then i actuly figeurd out that they dont sell hd-dvd anymore (this is today jan 10 0 and the bluray library got even bigger so i wonder if this thing has to deal with warner bros new line cineman bluray exulsive move .

Yes, except a composite is already HD and can output 1080p if your TV supports it...

I guess you mean you were using RCA cables? the yellow red and white with only 1 plugged into a video connection?

if you just have the basic cable that comes with the PS3, then def. yes, get HDMI, it's the cheapest way to upgrade, just don't spend more than $15 bucks on a cable, or you are getting ripped off...

480i is not even experiencing the true Blu ray experience, at the minimum you should be using Component cables to get a High Definition picture. Got out now and get either a set of Component cables or an HDMI cable, you will be blown away by the picture.

    ???

Composite IS red / white / yellow....

You must be referring to Component cables, cos no way is Composite going to output HD.

Since the OP stated he's using Composite, I'd say an upgrade to HDMI would be a huge difference, especially when your TV is Full-HD. If HDMI is proving hard to find, the next best alternative would be Component (those Red/Green/Blue for Video and Red/White for Audio) cables - don't confuse them with Composite.

yes go HDMI, but make sure your tv supports it. I have a 53" HDTV from Hitachi but it was made in like 2000 so it doesn't do HDMI, so I got component cables and I can get 720p and 1080i, the difference will blow you away.

I also would recomend monoprice.com because I just got a optical cable ($6.90 for cable and shipping) from them within the last two weeks so I could do surround sound through my receiver. Cable works great. Join us in the HD revolution and try not to anger the gods again, I really don't want to see anyone have Kratos coming after them

Dude, if you don't use component or HDMI, you aren't getting high definition. Period. So yes, you should most certainly get an HD cable. I would get HDMI, since it will be able to pass 1080p no problems. Some TVs will accept 1080p through component, but it's best to just get HDMI. Besides that, you can get them for stupid cheap!

If you are really using composite (red/white/yellow) and not component (red/green/blue) then the answer is hell yes. Using composite and watching at 480i you will be getting the same image quality out of your Blu Ray as you would get from a DVD - what a waste Get HDMI or component somehow - whatever it takes...

If your TV has HDMI buy a HDMI cable . If it doesn't butt has component (three cables for video) buy the PS2/PS3 component cable. If it doesn't have that you're left with the NTSC 480i options (S-video and composite) The PS2/PS3 S-video cable will look better than composite.

All these options should be less than $20 and are worth it. Funny how the HDMI cable ($5 off ebay) will be the cheapest butt best.

How does one even watch an 50' HDTV at 480i? Seriously... It would be an awful picture and more importantly, it would insult the HD Gods... watch for lightening bolts until you pick up an HDMI cable.

If you're watching Blu-Ray movies using composite cables, you're wasting your money renting and buying Blu-Ray movies. You need HDMI cables to get HD resolution from Blu-Ray movies.

And component cables won't cut it. The movies won't output HD resolution without HDMI. Something about the security and HDCP.

    Thanks, Yip-Man, for the SP!

I think this is the first unanimous poll with this many people voting I've seen on any forum.

And you don't need an expensive cable. Someone mentioned a $20 HDMI cable at Walmart. Just get that.

    Thanks, Yip-Man, for the SP!

Actually, he didn't even get progressive... LoL How bad is that. They look pretty good on my 27" CRT, but come on man, a 480i signal stretched out that much (Blu-ray or not) would just be horrid. Blech.

You can get cables for something like $2.50 on monoprice.com. You should get them there.
