Design Squad F.A.Q.
Here is a General FAQ for the Design Squad and for people who are curious about what the Design Squad really is.
How do I know who is on the design squad?
- - Members will now be able to ask for Avatars and Signatures in this forum.
- Any member who wishes to join the Official Design Squad must be a fairly active member who is willing to help out as often as possible in the Design Corner.
- What is the Design Squad?- The Purpose
- The Design squad is an elite group of artistic people. They have demonstrated to us that they are commited to our forums and to the members.
The design squad is responsible for making avatars and signatures for the members that want them.
They are key for helping our members stick out and provide a way for members to express themselves in art.
They are indeed a well focused, well maintained and a very artistic group.
- How to Join
- The purpose of the Design Squad is to reward the members for their artistic talents.
These members also serve as valuable assets to PS3Forums. Because of them, members will always have a means of displaying themselves in their avatar and signature.
The best way in doing this, of course, is to get your avatar and sig customized by the Design Squad.
- Every so often the Design Squad leaders (Svetlana and The House) will announce a recruitment drive. Potential Design Squad members will get the opportunity to submit their work in a thread so that the leaders can come to a conclusion about which person is the most suitable.
- Design Squad wannabes should help out regularly in the Design Corner. This way the leaders and the rest of the Design Squad can be confident that the person will continue their work in the Design Corner once they've been appointed and received the pretty purple username.-
- A Design Squad member can be identified by the lovely purple username they've got.

When did you join the Design Squad?
Some time early in 2006 when the Design Corner was in its infancy.
How did you learn to make signatures/avatars/wallpapers and what program(s) do you use?
Mainly self-taught, using tutorials from various forums and sites like Deviantart.
What is your favourite part of the Design Corner and being in the Design Squad?
The SOTW competitions are fun to participate in, constantly trying to outdo the other designers. Having people comment on how one of my signatures looks fantastic is a nice feeling.
What do you consider to be your speciality when making signatures?
I love making signatures with images of colourful fabrics, vectors and people. As I'm a fan of music, band signatures are also something that I love to create.
Facts about yourself:
23 year old female from England, likes alternative music, men with stubble and all things English.

How did you learn to make signatures/avatars/wallpapers and what program(s) do you use?
Mostly just messing around with Photoshop, although some tutorials did help too.
What is your favourite part of the Design Corner and being in the Design Squad?
The SOTW competitions as well as the requesting thread, it's nice to see people appreciate the work put into these sigs and avatars.
What do you consider to be your speciality when making signatures?
Versatility, I like to keep people guessing on what my sigs might look like. I also like to use C4D's.
Facts about yourself:
18 year old Male from Wales, I like Films, Man Utd, Anime, Gaming, Music etc.

How did you learn to make signatures/avatars/wallpapers and what program(s) do you use?
The first sig I created was only 4 months ago as this is the first forum I have been a member of. Since then I've just been playing around on Photoshop in my spare time and improving.
What is your favourite part of the Design Corner and being in the Design Squad?
I like the Design Corner because it is the first thing that has got me to do creative work in my own time. I also enjoy the challenge/competition and its a good way to develop my skills. Being in the DS is great because it shows that my hard work has paid off and that I'm getting better.
What do you consider to be your speciality when making signatures?
I think my speciality is definitely the irregular shaped sigs I make where the main object stands out of the sig into the forum.
Facts about yourself:
I'm a 23yo male with a beautiful wife. I studied Digital Animation at uni and got a First Class Honours degree. I am currently working as a web developer.

When did you join the Design Squad?
30th of July.
How did you learn to make signatures/avatars/wallpapers and what program(s) do you use?
Back when I posted at the Official Playstation Forums, there was a section at the very bottom of the forum called the "Signature Scratchboard" or something like that. Well anyways, I saw those awesome people making sigs, so I decided I would do it myself!
I used Photoshop CS2/CS3 and GIMP for a short time.
What is your favourite part of the Design Corner and being in the Design Squad?
Just knowing that I am respected as a designer, and that [most] people depend on me and other DS members for Avatars, Signatures, and Wallpapers.
What do you consider to be your speciality when making signatures?
Coloring. I love using G.Maps and Photofilters in Photoshop.. I couldn't live without them.
Facts about yourself:
Well, I am a Video Gameaholic from Detroit Michigan, who loves girls, sports, more girls, more sports, and reading with girls and playing sports. I do well in school, and I plan on going to College.... and I might want to be a professional designer if I don't become a Police Officer first!
I also play online games like Killzone, Socom, and Metal Gear. I use the clan systems on GameBattles.com

How did you learn to make signatures/avatars/wallpapers and what program(s) do you use?
I've been using Photoshop for the last 7 or so years and its all been self taught really, not much of one to use tutorials.
What is your favourite part of the Design Corner and being in the Design Squad?
I just enjoy seeing other peoples work and there progressing. Plus it inspires me to do new things, try to stray from the normal and so forth. And being in the Design Squad is a nice little bonus for trying my hardest and helping out where I can.
What do you consider to be your speciality when making signatures?
Just being different. I try to stray from the normal types of signatures.
Facts about yourself:
I'm gay, okay not really! Dang! My girlfriend like to tell my I'm gay. Guess cause I actually have a sense of style and I don't like guys. I call myself technosexual. Its awesome.
I just enjoy the nice quite life. I try to keep my friends at a minimum, just so I can be close. I'd rather be close to 3 or 4 friends then barely know 10-20 people.
I'm highly religious(Christian), but it doesn't blind me from other religions. I respect everyone and try to be nice. It takes a lot to push me over the edge to get me angry and thats always good, so don't expect to to blow up in your face. I can take a lot.
I try to help out wherever I can, be it in real life or on the forums. I have a knack to be a leader even though I really don't want to take it on. But I will, try to make everyone happy at least.
Other then that, I'm a fun loving guy who just wants to enjoy life and help other people to enjoy it to. This world is getting so dark, but there is always light out there. Just look for my smile.

I don't have a gallery of all my recent work, but my deviantart page has a few new ones. I might upload more later;

When did you join the Design Squad?
~December-ish 2006
How did you learn to make signatures/avatars/wallpapers and what program(s) do you use?
I learned by using tuts initially, but developed my own style as I went along. I use photoshop and paint shop pro.
What is your favourite part of the Design Corner and being in the Design Squad?
The design corner has a variety of styles with everyone helping each other out, I find that really great about this place. I've always wanted to be in the DS since its formation, but got selected only a few months back, its just cool to be recognised for your skills.
What do you consider to be your speciality when making signatures?
My speciality is "promo" type sigs, I cant really work with pics involving motion and fluidity, so I mainly do headshots().
Facts about yourself:
Im 17 years old, live with my parents, have a passion for biotechnology. I dont have any friends, rarely attend social events. I was fat, but im normal now. D@mn, just one short of the perfect stereotype!
All of the above is true, 'cept for the friends part. I used to be a straight A student with great ambitions, but now, I think im ready to die.
Im a rap fan, listen to everything out, but my favourite has to be 50 cent! Cant wait for Detox to drop later this year.
I like playing basketball and gym-ing everyday.
IVideo Games! I have watched over 500 movies in my short life span. Big terminator fan!
My favourite LOL-ism:
If ignorance is bliss, you must be orgasmic!

Is he on holiday or something at the moment? If so do you know when he is coming back? When he gets back
Great idea by the way, but you may also want to state the purpose, like morph did when he set up the xbox 360 reviews section.

Yes, I believe he went to see his GF for the weekend.
He should be back Monday.

Back on topic, who do you think will be part of the design team? As lots of people have contributed, not continuously but now and again.
-
01-29-2006 #9
I'm not sure, but from what me and Mercenary have been talking about, so far it is me, Mercenary, Skribbles, and Voice of a Riot, the rest are yet to be determined, and this list could change.

perfect sin do i have to make it completely gaming related to use for a example to join, just asking for all that wants to know. mainly because ive seen some great work without the use of games and cutting it out cuts some talent, if you know what i mean.

I don't know...My guess would be it doesn't have to be totally gaming related...
I just wrote what NoUseMerc said. If you want it to be crystal clear PM him.
If you get a good answer just reply here, I will update the FAQ if he clarifies what needs to be sent in."It's real hard to be free when you are bought and sold in the marketplace.

Of course, don't ever tell anybody that they're not free, 'cause then they're gonna

perfect sin i have your answer from nousemercy.
Well, I think you can make any type of sig or avatar as long as it shows your top notch work. You must however, to be part of the team, be able to make incredible Gaming sigs and avatars, seeing as how this is a PS3forum and many of the jobs that will be requested will be for gaming sigs, I will look to see that you are good in this category of graphic art.
kinda odd posting that.
edit: also could i make a suggestion. how about instead of members filling your guys pm inboxes why not make a post for everyone to post in for entrys. that way its all in one place and the whole team can look over it, also helps you keep your pm box in order.
