Shame for Berbatov as he genuinly seemed to like being a United player. Such a classy player, but it's probably the right call for all parties. His style has always been a bit in conflict with our tempo, now probably more than ever.

Yeah, agreed. I feel, in hindsight, it should have been obvious to tell Berba wouldn't fit this season after the pre-season because we played such a fast paced team in pre-season and signed Young who play with speed.

With the midfield of Cleverly and Anderson in pre-season (and at the start of the regular season), while playing Rooney and Welbeck upfront - it should have been easy to call we were going for speed and Berba would struggle making the team. But it's easy to say that in hindsight.

Hopefully Berba's agent and Gill can find him a new club fast in the summer.

Will be interesting to see who replaces him. Owen always injured and Macheda can't even get in the QPR team. Seems like buying a new striker will be likely, but if its a striker many would consider top quality I could see that having negative impact on Welbeck or Hernandez. If one of them were to fall down the pecking order it could halt Welbeck's development and I doubt Hernandez would enjoy being a 4th choice striker and other teams would then likely be after him with guarantees of more football. Maybe Sir Alex will bring up someone like Will Keane and rotate between him, Macheda and Owen and hope Rooney, Welbeck or Hernandez don't get too many injuries. A risk considering we always get multiple injuries every season.

I think it will be Will Keane, that seems like the smartest move since you can always send him down to the reserves to get games during the stretches he won't get to play with the first team. Both Young and Nani can play as a striker too if needed.

Yeah agreed no need to buy a striker give Will Keane a chance.

Will be a good move for Berby I think he'll probably move to a different league.

Still amazed that he did not get MOTM. I've give up on trying to guess who the co-commentator will give MOTM to. They are watching a different game to me.... even Redknapp seemed surprised.

Welbeck was fantastic for the Valencia goal. Heads it clear and is then the only striker in the box, he seems to be getting quicker.

He said he doesn't want to leave. He has already said he'd rather be part of a team that wins. I remember reading it on Twitter. He was doomed the day he left Liverpool

They don't even need to. We'll have a lot of good options even without him. And who knows, we might just sign a striker...

There is no way Manchester City will be on top at the end of the season now. Unless the owners offer to double their wages next year if they win the title then perhaps they will get the motivation and heart to win the title.

Manchester United to extend Berbatov's contract & could offer him to Tottenham as part of bid for Modric

The Old Trafford club will trigger a clause in the Bulgarian's contract this week - but the 31-year-old will still leave in the summer and is valued at £6-8 million

The Bulgarian’s current deal expires at the end of the season but United will trigger a unilateral option this week to extend his contract by a further year to prevent the player from leaving on a free transfer in the summer.

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted last week that Berbatov is likely to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season after falling behind Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez in the pecking order.

United believe Berbatov will command £6-8 million in the summer and may try to use the 31-year-old as a makeweight in their attempts to sign top target Luka Modric.

Tottenham will demand at least £40m for the playmaker, which is beyond United’s reach, but there are suggestions within Old Trafford that Berbatov could be included in a bid for the Croat.

It is still unclear whether Tottenham would be interested in re-signing Berbatov but United are hopeful of signing long-term target Modric, who is stalling over signing a new contract at White Hart Lane.

Berbatov, who joined United from Spurs in a £30.75m deal in 2008, is believed to be frustrated by United’s decision to trigger a clause to extend his contract, the deadline for which expires this week.

He is still almost certain to leave the club in the summer, with his contract extension being used simply as a means for United to recoup some of their initial outlay on the former Bayer Leverkusen man.

Berbatov, the top scorer in the Premier League last season, has been linked with a return to Leverkusen and was the subject of interest from wealthy French side Paris Saint-Germain earlier this season.

He has spoken of a “sad” and “painful” season missing out on first-team football having made just 10 Premier League appearances this season, failing to make the 18-man matchday squad in the last two matches.

Ferguson accepts Berbatov’s desire to play and will not stand in his way in the summer.

“His concern is not getting first-team football," said Ferguson last week. "At 31, he is looking at first-team football.

"It is difficult for me to guarantee that, so it could lead to him looking elsewhere.

"We will be taking up the option on his contract but, having had chats with him, I understand he wants to get first-team football.

"It is something we need to consider at the end of the season. For a player of his age and his ability, it is disappointing for him that he is not getting first-team football.

"We will look at the end of the season but until then, he remains at United."

Yep. April the 15th. Kind of a bummer there's no game for six days now. Will be pretty boring although good for me because I'm busy watching playoff ice-hockey here in Sweden right now.

Don't think we'll swap/sell Berbatov to any team in the PL. We never get a a good price when we sell domestically.
