Manchester United boost in RVP chase as Juventus cool interest

Manchester United are in pole position to sign Arsenal's Robin van Persie after Juventus seemingly admitted defeat in their pursuit of the player.

The Reds have openly declared their interest in Van Persie and have had one bid turned down. Manchester City are also chasing him, but are under pressure to offload players before they can buy, much to the irritation of boss Roberto Mancini.

If we accept the premise that football clubs are corporations then China is a huge market not to be in. China has more growth potential than any other market bar perhaps India. Having customers there is a big deal. Eventually, you'll undoubtedly make more money from China than any other market.

Chevrolet signs seven year deal

General Motors and Manchester United today announced that the world's most popular football club's shirt sponsor will be Chevrolet, beginning with the 2014/2015 season.

Chevrolet, the current Official Car Partner of the Club, will become only the fifth shirt sponsor in the Club’s 134 year history.

FA charges Ferdinand

The Football Association has today charged Rio Ferdinand with improper conduct in relation to comments posted on Twitter.

A statement on the FA's official website confirmed: "The allegation is that the player acted in a way which was improper and/or brought the game into disrepute by making comments which included a reference to ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race."

Rio has until 16:00 BST on Thursday 2 August, 2012 to respond to the charge.

Rio was an idiot for replying to that tweet, hook line and sinker if you ask me.

If he ends up with a ban, I can see United banning its employees from using twitter. And a lot of other clubs will follow.

Yeah I guess. I just think the punishment shouldn't be a ban from playing. It should be fines. Bans ends up hurting the club more than the player, fines they can feel themselves much more. Obviously someone like Rio will be devastated if he's suspended because he loves playing for Man United but some players couldn't care less about a 2 games suspension I think.

I hope Twitter isn't banned since I like having a look at what the players are up to but there need to be strict guidelines set in place to make sure these type of opinionated comments aren't tweeted.
