The United IPO share price was announced last night. $14 per share instead of the expected $16-20 and United have now been valued at £1.5bn instead of the £2.2bn the Glazers wanted.
Both are good things for United imo. Makes a sale more likely to happen but still a long way off.

The Glazers rang the bell at the NYSE this morning. The NYSE was decorated with astroturf and goal posts. You can see the turf in the picture below. Pretty cringey stuff if you ask me.

There they are. Ready to line their pockets.

He's the Chief Exec of the club. Surely it's in his interest to know!?

There might be PL regulations preventing Gill from profiting from the IPO. That's probably why he doesn't know.

I thought this was being used to pay back debt?

50% goes to the Glazers. 50% goes to pay off the debt.

Do they not realize how giant a financial powerhouse United would be if they put as much effort into clearing the debt as possible?
Better for the rest of us I guess.

The Glazers, clearly, are not running a charity here. They are not interested in paying off the debt with their own money so this is the only way to do it. One can argue that they should put 100% of the sale to pay off the debt but in what world is that realistic?
We, as fans, must learn to not get emotional about the business Manchester United. We can't analyze something while being emotional. I'm as emotional about the football issues as ever but I can't allow myself to have feelings or emotions about the business because it's impossible to analyze in that state.Other opinions are available.

So can you analyse this at all as a United fan?
-
08-10-2012 #28613
Sure. You need to take two steps back and look at the cause and effect. If you do that you realize it's a bit late to be angry about any of this now. The time to be angry was in 2005. Most fans, myself included, failed to read the tea leaves then but in hindsight this has been a long time coming. So to me, now you have to look at this step by step very cautiously.

That's a good approach but you are definitely in the minority. Football fans generally wear their emotions on their sleeve and anything to do with their club can pull at those emotions wether it be on or off the field.

I just fully want to understand it before I involve any emotions. I've only studied Silicon Valley businesses and a little bit of Hollywood so I'm trying to adapt that framework to this, for me, uncharted territory. Having missed the mark back in '05 I must try to learn from it by a logical approach to this flotation.

All I know is before the takeover United was in the black and after they are in the red.

Yeah they are profitable, and really thank God they are otherwise you'd have done a Rangers a long time ago.

WOW, even Denis Leary is trying to make a quick buck.
Of course Gill knows, if his bank balance is due to grow. He will not admit it though. Making even more shed loads of cash, on the back of the Glazer debt, will not go down well. And I wish people would stop calling them the owners, the banks own MUFC and no one else.
And for the United fans who really oppose the Glazer clan, STOP buying all the tat they flog. I'd bet the people whining the most are on the facebook friends list, de-friend yourself and start a campaign on twitter encouraging others to do so. Only a small thing, but it would be a start.

No it doesn't. In accounting "being in black" means you either go even or turn a profit. "Being in red" means you do not turn profit.

I missed the 1st half but I'm hearing good things about the Cleverley and Kagawa partnership in midfield!
