Goodness... Other than it being a loss, I don't see how it's not considered a freakin' great game. That was back and forth. Also, someone will have to explain the "we" in suggestions here. I don't understand it. "We should have done better", etc. It doesn't make sense to draw yourself in as a participant of the team or league. And after every break from football as well. If he were a young player we would tolerate it. But he's almost 27 now. Is it so much to ask from one of the highest paid footballers in Europe at his peak age to be in any sort of shape at the start of a new season? He didn't look fit, his touch was all over the place, he looked underprepared. It's unacceptable.

Players are different, Rooney may be a slow starter but how can you reach your peak if you don't play?

He certainly was the only one looking to get the ball towards the goal for the whole 90 minutes.

Clearly Fergie agrees since he took off Welbeck for RVP and not Rooney. RVP didn't make an impact either in the short time he had.

Also, I'd never sub Rooney for RVP in the first game of the season. That sends the wrong message. Rooney can play, and be a top scorer for 7-9 years while we'd do well to get the 4 years we have signed RVP for out.
