What is the offical name of the ps3?

The general industry assumption is that it will be PS3. Sony themselves has referred to it as PS3 on several occassions.

This is counter to Microsoft who goes out of their way not to call it the Xbox2. They refer to it by it's internal codename - Xenon - or by - Next genernation Xbox Console.

Im going to take a guess that is probably will be Playstation 3....I think only MS and Nintendo are doing "codenames"

Though the PS3's online system is refered to "Cyber World"

Yeah, I've heard that too. I'm hoping that it is just a code name as well. "Cyber World" is the most generic sounding name they could have thought of.

Lets see, you are asking how good the PS2 online is in the PS3 folder. On top of that there are tons of threads over in the PS2 folder that would be more appropriate.

We don't know. Rumor is, they might be dropping the number for the next generation PlayStation. (And calling it the PS3 is not them countering Microsoft, what comes after 2? Not everything Sony does revolves around Microsoft.)

Nope, that rumor is bogus...from what I am hearing, is that they are going to stick with the number. From my sources it will probably be just the Playstation 3.

However, majority of the time, during Press Conferences, Sony refers to the PS3 as their "Next generation console". So things could go either way.

Xbox Live being unbearable? That's a new one... I've just written a 3 or 4 paragraph post on why XBox Live is superior than PS2 online, and yet here comes someone who contradicts me

Anyhow, onto business:
PS2 online is very solid for the game that does support it. Only ported games show lag online (Rainbow Six 3 comes to mind, never played PS2's Splinter Cell 2), or games with 16 players (SOCOM and Starwars: Battlefront). Of course, the player number itself is usually half of that you see in XBox, which effectively reduces lag (except in the case of Rainbow Six 3

Most of the times that I have seen Xbox Live been unplayable was on slower connections. Most games really want 128k upstream even though technically Xbox Live only requires 56k upstream to run properly.

Halo2 is a weird game. If you have 1.5mb upstream it will use it. If you have 56k upstream it will use it. It actually adjusts the amount of traffic and updates sent out based on how fast it determines your connection to be. Thus, it is generally speaking not laggy feeling on most connections. I wish more games would do this.

I wish ALL games would do that. Including PS2s. That's actually cool. Never knew that it was possible.

Apparently this game hasn't been "announced" yet for the PS3, but they would still like to answer our questions. So help me brainstorm and such.
