Let's try to keep this thread active. I made this thread because I'm looking to buy some RPG games for my Ps2, even better if it's an underrated game.

5. Grandia II - Possesses one of the best turnbased battle systems I've ever come across. Awesome soundtrack by Noriyuki Iwadare. Has a story with several twists and turns that I didn't see coming in the slightest and an ending worthy of the name Grandia.
4. Final Fantasy X/XII - Final Fantasy X for its story and characters and Final Fantasy XII for its gameplay. X I didn't initially like the first time I played it. The lack of a world map, Uematsu pairing up with other composers and as such its lacking soundtrack, and predictable storyline in places made it a Final Fantasy that didn't resonate with me overtly, at least at first. After playing it again, I realize that it is still a Final Fantasy and as such deserves some recognition.
XII has an extreme lack of character development, which is a no-no in an rpg. But its battle system is awesome, and reason enough to purchase the game, along with a storyline that is rife with political intrigue.
3. Kingdom Hearts 2 - I really didn't like the first Kingdom Hearts. I felt it was too kiddy. But the sequel resonated with me in gobs. Reaction commands were just all kinds of awesome, Yoko Shimomura really showed me just how talented of a composer she is, and Tetsuya Nomura showed me how great of an overseer he is. I expect greatness from Versus. Can't wait for Kingdom Hearts III as well.
2. Shadow Hearts: Covenant - Possesses the absolute best PS2 character I've ever come across in Yuri Hyuga, a harmonizer or person who can fuse with monsters. This is also one of the funniest JRPGs I've ever played, mainly because of the game's protagonist, the aforementioned Yuri. Has a turnbased battle system, but employs something called the Judgement Ring which makes for an interesting take on turnbased affair. The soundtrack by Yosh-itaka Hirota is some of the best in the role playing realm on PS2.
1. Tales of the Abyss - Out of all the PS2 rpgs that I have played, this is the one with the absolute best character development, story, a competent soundtrack, and a real time battle system that is just ridiculously fun in its execution. Characters like Jade and Guy really stand out in this game, pretty much all of the characters are lovable. Very hard not to fall in love with them.
Currently playing? Skyrim (360). White Knight Chronicles (PS3). Majoras Mask (Wii). Final Fanasy VII (PS2). Just completed? Final Fantasy VI.

^ I didn't like Grandia II very much, compared to the original Grandia, it's crap.
The in game battle on both games were awesome, but the original one had a more exciting and enjoyable upgrade system and story.
I would really like to see how Grandia 3 is compared to it's prequels, but it never came out in Europe, and I don't know how to run NTSC games on my Ps2.
Btw if you haven't already played the original Grandia, then you're seriously missing out on a fantastic JRPG.

I actually have the original Grandia. I had started a new save on it but got distracted with newer games. Granida III I have. It's battle system is better than IIs, but it completely falls apart on the second disk. It's like whoever wrote it got ill and had to take leave. I would only recommend it to a hardcore fan of the series or someone who wants to see how great a turnbased battle system can be.

Currently playing? Skyrim (360). White Knight Chronicles (PS3). Majoras Mask (Wii). Final Fanasy VII (PS2). Just completed? Final Fantasy VI.

How far did you get on the original Grandia?

I beat it, just once though. I think on my new save I'm up to the Salt Ruins, can't be sure, it's been a while.

Ah ok, anyways it's good to meet a fellow Grandia fan, haven't met that many yet.
and 1 more thing though: Tales of the Abyss, it this the first game in the tales series?

-

Actually, there are several branches of the Tales series (Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Legendia, Tales of Destiny) all on different consoles. But Tales of the Abyss takes place in an entirely different world to those games, so yeah, it's the first game in a possible series.

Currently playing? Skyrim (360). White Knight Chronicles (PS3). Majoras Mask (Wii). Final Fanasy VII (PS2). Just completed? Final Fantasy VI.

Its hard to list these games

Ill try not to put the listthats arighty up sence you ether got it or dont like it
Suikoden III - A very well story-line with multi heros. along with Suikoden Series
Grandia Series - but ill replace it with Xenosaga Series - Another good long story-line with 3 epic. Each evolve with there battle system.
Wild ARMs series - A very unique story 3rd one still use classic style Turn base. 4th and 5th use new battle Hex system along with ATB ( Active Turn Base ). Im playing 4th at the moment and im liking it so far. 3rd is the hardest out of all game due to lack of into and mapping.
Shadow Hearts Series - but ill replace it with Star Ocean 3 - Story seem slow and simple till later. Battle system has a good layout.
Final Fantasy X/X-2 - But ill replace it with Atelier Iris Series - I only play part of it as testing and it got a good classic style. Battle System is ATB witch mean you dont need to use all 3-4 hero on one turn and wait.
Humm theres more on the list but ill just put these up for you to look up on. Alot of great games out there for sure so dont miss out on it.
Grandia II for Dreamcast got me started on RPG. Love II the most
D 3rd was good but
Over-all its still good using the org battle system style

My top 5 :
Star Ocean 3 : it's my favourite PS2 game, great battle system, almost perfect.
Final Fantasy XII - I really like the new battle system
Shadow Hearts Covenant : great story that take place in Europe during world war 1.
Disgaea : most likely a tactical-RPG, but it's the best in this category.
Final Fantasy X : great story and great characters.

Steambot chronicles: Sandbox type RPG made by Irem. There isn't ahrd play on numbers in this game and it is more about actually living inside of this world. Impressive hybrid of rpg, sandbox and adventure elements.
Radiata stories: Very compelling sandbox rpg made by tri ace. Not only is the world very fleshed out but the carachters are very expresive and pretty humerous to behold. There are an incredible amount of characters that you can recruit and play with in the world given certain requirements are met which is astounding because of how unique almost every character you come across is.
Both kingdom hearts. Now throwing away the child factor, when taken to heart both of these games are pretty dark. I am unapologetic disney and square enix fan and I probably liked these series more than I should have. I the heirachy of evil among the disney characters are perfect and if it was a debate between fans, square did it right. But what really did it for me was the gameplay. Action rpg at its finest. After years of playing turnbased the unthinkable happened. I got tired of it. I got tired of the grind and waste of life. I understood it way back then because of limitations of the hardware but kingdom hearts only proved that traditional based jrpgs are around for nostolgia and the hardcore fans. Halfway through the last dragonquest it was packed up and put on the shelf only to remind me of a gameplay I used to like.
FFXII: not done away with the menu's but this a step closer for the series. With compelling story and an enormous world again FF never ceases to impress. I have been waiting for a more futristic type final fantasy ever since FFVIII but XII still did not disappoint and pretty much shows that the final fantasy franchise will always have my money, no matter the overall design.
Grandia 2 for the PS2? I had a version for the dreamcast and one for the PC. I never finished it because it crashed on my PC

i dunno how many countless prg games i had for my ps2 lol, so heres the ones ill never forget playing - final fantasy X and X-2, cuz they are both games that imerse you in the story, and you connct with the characters, then theres kingdom hearts 1 and 2, cuz the have that same element with as fantasy X and X-2, u can relate to the charecters, u can sorta feel their emotions as ur own, then final fantasy XII, i dont have any real special reasons for suggesting it, its not like final fantasy X and X-2 or KH1-2, but its still a great game if i happen to remember any others that were really good ill drop them here.

1. Final Fantasy X...this is what started it all for me. I was strictly a pc gamer before FFX (mainly RTS & SRPG). Saw a friend playing it and fell in love. Went out and bought a ps2--my first console since the Sega Genesis days--haven't looked back since. I still am playing ps1 & ps2 rpg's to try to catch up on everything I've missed.
2. Final Fantasy XII 185 hours and I still refuse to conquer it because I don't want to finish the game yet. Story is definitely weaker than a lot of RPG's (which sucks) HOWEVER; I absolutely love the size and exploration and combat. I enjoy beating EVERY enemy and owning EVERY weapon, etc.
3. .hack//G.U. Vol.1-3 Fell in love with the story and characters. So unique.
4. Star Ocean 3
5. A bunch of ties here! Maybe Rogue Galaxy or Kingdom Hearts 1/2.

Squaresoft aka SE claim they ship 6.6 million units world wide so i guess around 6 million sold and 600k left standing on website. But that was just none GH if thats my guess. so overall it should top off 10 million+.
I never liked the other Dot hack, infection/mutation/outbreakquarantine so i put down this game becuz of it. Yes its sad but the game play got me dizzy and too much repeative.PS3 60GB R.I.P Born Dec/17/07 Died in Nov 25/09
