The race was phenomenal, and Raikonnen showed us why he's champion. I think if the Ferrari cars stay as clear as possible of technical stumbles like Melbourne, I think Kimi can take the title again.

I see enthusiasm for the thread's waning.
Anyway what a disaster for McLaren that one was. Hamilton had an appalling race, sleeping off the line and ploughing straight into the back of Alonso (suprisingly, the *********** wasn't brake-testing).
However BMW are starting to look like a serious threat in this championship and could win the Constructors and even the Drivers championship if they keep up their consistency. Though the Ferrari 1-2 speaks for itself.
Now if we can just get rid of Mosley, this year might actually go well!(\__/)(O.o )(> < )This is Bunny. Copy Bunny into your signature to help him on his way to world domination!

Man I wish we could see more of the F1 races in the U.S. I have the F1 game for PS3 and it's a lot of fun. It would also be cool to see those Australian V8 Supercars and European touring cars sometime.

Xelis, with all due repect, do you even have a clue what you are talking about? Hamilton only broke his wing after he hit Alonso, rather than before, as you are suggesting.
Also, the loss of downforce would reduce Hamilton's acceleration, not increase it ( I believe you are thinking of high speed situations where the reduction in drag would increase the speed).
Still, where the heck is everyone?(\__/)(O.o )(> < )This is Bunny. Copy Bunny into your signature to help him on his way to world domination!

I do know what Im talking about.
and I quote.
Less downforce = Less drag = Acceleration.McLaren have confirmed that Lewis Hamilton’s front wing broke immediately prior to his running into the rear of Fernando Alonso’s Renault on lap two of Sunday’s Bahrain Grand Prix.
The unusual nature of the accident - both drivers were accelerating on a straight section of track - prompted cynics to question whether Alonso had ‘brake tested’ his former team mate. Renault’s telemetry suggested otherwise, and McLaren say they have no suspicion of any wrongdoing on the part of the Spaniard.
“When I went into the engineers’ room and started looking at the details that I realised Lewis’s upper front wing had disappeared about two seconds before the accident, so he suddenly lost downforce,” explained McLaren’s Formula One CEO, Martin Whitmarsh.
“We haven’t analysed why that happened but we suspect the structure had been weakened by previous contact. To be fair to Lewis it could have broken of its own accord, but that has never happened before so contact is the most likely cause. There’s certainly no evidence that Fernando did anything wrong.”
Such a failure would have robbed Hamilton’s car of not only downforce, but also drag, giving it an unexpected burst of acceleration, explaining the unlikely impact.

I was hoping that Alonso (or even Nelsinho Piquet) could be at least close to Hamilton, Räikkönen and Massa, but Renault is terrible again. Kubica and Heidfeld with their BMW's are great this year!
I think Massa was great in Bahrain running under pressure (only off-track pressure). I really hope he keep the good moment and win again in Spain and Turkey as last year!

Ok, I'll admit I stand corrected. I haven't heard about the wing braking before the accident (out of interest, where did you get that quote from?), and looking at it with hindsight, my idea of less dwonforce = less acceleration does seem a bit stupid.

Though I'm late to this game, I think Kimmi will do it again this year.
But existing is basically all I do!

Monaco, what a fantastic race, poor Sutil, but Hamilton owned that race after he tagged the barrier.

It was a right mixed bag of emotions when the Sutil accident happened, happy Raikonen wasn't scoring any points but gutted for Sutil. He really deserved to do well in that race.
And yeah Hamilton owned that race after his incident, I thought it was all over for him when i saw that. Found it funny when on the radio his engineer said 'good job hamilton, probably a year later than it should've been but you got there.' Just seems to bring a bit of truth to the rumours after last years race!!!

Raikonen is one of my favourite drivers, has been ever since I saw him do some awesome stuff in first season at McLaren, I just can't stand Ferrari. Would be really sweet if Raikonen and Hamilton were both at Mclaren. I also think that Kovalainen is yet to show what hes fully capable of, had a run of bad luck so far.
Anyways, I'm hoping McLaren will dominate Canada again as they did last year, McLaren's overdue a championship!

Monaco's always the best races, I love the track.
Didn't watch all of the race though, the weather was pretty bad from what I saw and there were lots of crashes [which always ****ing happened when averts were on].

apart from hitting the wall, he drove a flawless race.
anyone here read the comments on the bbc606 message boards? that place has to the den of the elite bottom feeders
just a few pathetic messages posted in quick succession during the race by one tosser in particular:
Hahahah Hamilton hits the wall
Hamilton going slow.
Hamilton will bottle it and crash
Why am I 100% certain that Hammy will crash
Kubica will overtake Hamilton
this fool has been on those boards under different guises for the last year or so, and has done nothing but slate hamilton on every opportunity he gets.
as usual, when he wins, the clown disappears for 2 weeks, then just as the build up for the following race kicks off, he crawls out again.
I used to post on there all the time, but this 1 shagwit drove me away with his constant belittling
it's the first time I've been back since the end of the 2007 season, and straight away I could spot him just from his posts.
kind of pathetic really how someone can be so jealous of such a natural talent.
when he hit the barrier, that's when he opened up with the attacks, yet it was minute compared to what happened to raikkonen, strangely one driver he seems to worship endlessly
it was only his sheer determination and mclaren tactics that got him second in turkey, a lesser driver would have fared worse than he didDon't waste your words I don't need anything from you.
I don't care where you've been or what you plan to do.

Unfortunately you will always find people who hate things for no reason, just look at the 'console war' for proof of that. I tend to find the best tactic is just to ignore them. These kind of people thrive on other people rising up to their patheticness.

So far I think F1 has the best line up of drivers Ive seen, I mean I hate Alonso from what he did at McClaren buts hes a dam good driver, Raikkonen was my favourite driver when at McClaren and is a brilliant driver but as a McClaren fan and have to stick to my roots and with Hamilton, hes a brilliant driver, at McClaren AND English, the whole package.

I think Monaco is the worst race in the calendar, unless it raining, simply because theres nowhere to overtake unless you want the slide along the barriers. Also I read an article on the adverts saying last year we lost over 4 hours of racing due to adverts, thank god its on the BBC next year.

-
05-27-2008 #74
The reason I like Monaco is that you can't overtake and it's all down to tactics meaning that to an extent it's not the drivers race, but the team's. Like how many pitstops when and fast can they do it. I've pretty much always found Monaco more engaging cause of that.
The adverts here in Germany were insane. Not only did they always happen just when something was going on in the race, but they were on far too much and the picture in picture they used to have was gone too. Effectively I was watching ads with a bit of race inbetween..

Well the next race kicks off in a little under an hour, any predictions?
I'm hoping Hamilton will pull off another good win but with the state of the track and the expected rain it could be a difficult race.
