Hey guys, as you all know, SSB: Brawl just came out 2 days ago in NA! And you bet your monkey bottoms that I got mah wings on it (if only for a little while).
This won't really be a "review" in the sense of being full fledged and comprehensive. I'll just go over a few thoughts I have regarding the game, the good and the bad.
So, without further adue, let us begin.
New Characters:
Snake - Well, what can I say? HE BLOWS. He's all KINDS of slow, and his "Smash" attack is extremely over powered--too bad it doesn't make up for his uselessness.
Imagine this: Snake is Bowser in disguise. That's how slow and useless he is.
Too bad, 'cause he was supposed to be one sick character.
Oh, just for those who have been wondering: You CAN make Snake go into a box by using the Taunt button.
Meta Knight - He's awesome! Really pwnz0r and unbalanced, but you gotta love his überness. He's a really smooth and fluid character to play, and you can pwn people just by mashing buttons with this guy! Haha
.
Pit - Interesting, and comes pre-installed with a very annoying "B" attack. Just mash "B", and I'll personally guarantee that your friends will all get annoyed.
Ike - Wow, this guy is all sorts of slow, but every single attack of his is all sorts of powerful! He's essentially Roy's replacement, but made more extreme in both ways that defined the original Roy (made even slower, and even more powerful).
Pokemon Trainer - Interesting concept, comprises of 3 pokemons in one character. You get 3 for the price of 1, essentially. I only watched my friend play as him (I'm not a big pokemon Penguin), and Charizard seems to move like Mewtwo (which has been removed, by the way). Then there's the speedy squirtle, and the bulb-like bulbasaur (spelling?).
Olimar - Interesting character: He "throws" his little pikmin at other's when doing Smash attacks. He also has to dig up his little pikmin from the ground by using "B" when he runs out. Personally, I didn't find him to be that great of a character. But an interesting character, nonetheless.
Sonic - He's not as fast as the trailer make him out to be, and he seems somewhat like a Yoshi clone with his "spin attack", but his movement style is a lot more different and he "glides" a lot (as a friend put it). It's hard to describe what Sonic is like, you'll have to play it to see.
There's loads of other characters (14 unlockables) and whatnot, but I won't go over them all, you'll be able to find all sorts of stats on 'em on the net, I'm sure.
On to the controls:
*GASPS* I haven't played it with the Wii's native controller yet. Quite frankly, none of my friends have, either
. I personally find playing with the Wii Classic Controller to be FAR superior to playing with the GameCube controller, but that's just me--my friends all prefer the GameCube controller.
It may be due to the fact that the two Analog Stick setup of the Classic Controller is similar to the DualShock, which I'm very used to (But oddly enough, when I started using the Classic Controller, it felt very awkward).
A lot of the old characters got tweaked, some were made faster, slower, some attacks removed, some added, and some tweaked. For example, Kirby's ANNOYING "fireball" attack got removed (Thank GOODNESS! Now Kirby is actually NOT totally useless!). Bowser also seems to be a bit faster (or maybe I'm just imagining things). Also, the Zelda-to-Sheik (and vice versa) transformation time takes A LOT longer now... don't ask me why
.
Game play:
The same old same old. It's here that SSB: Brawl seems more like a "Melee 1.5" than anywhere else, which isn't a bad thing since the complete overhaul presented by Melee wasn't that well received in the beginning of its life span--but people will get used to it.
Like I said above, just the regular balance tweaks occured, and in terms of core game play mechanics, it's still the same. Well, except for two new major twists that were introduced:
Smash Ball and the "Glider" Attack (Not sure of its official name...).
If you've been following up on SSB: Brawl news, I'm sure you've heard about these two attack/abilities, but I'll just recap here. The Smash Ball allows your character to unleash an unparalleled SUPER ATTACK on your mortal enemies! Each character have a their own unique Smash Attack, some are AOE (Area of Effect), some are Melee-based, and some are more "interesting" (so to speak). For example, Snake goes on a Helicopter and shoots RPG's at the other players, and Falco/Fox goes into their "Battle Tank" and can squash and shoot at others. I'm going ot assume that Wario does his infamous NUCLEAR FART attack from the trailer(s), but I have yet to see it in action.
I haven't had a chance to try out its other features yet, but pretty much everything got an overhaul (The Adventure Mode plays more like a side-scrolling beat'em up with co-op support) and Brawl got the addition of a custom map editor.
Oh, I will leave you all with this: The best character in the entire game is MARIOD! And the Classic Controller RULEZ
!

I don't trust your review.
I didn't even have to read it, like my sig?
Oh, and wrong section BTW.
Also, I did read it and agreed with most of it.

That's okay, it wasn't really a review
.
And also, I have not purchased it yet--it's not really my type of game, really. And it's quite ironic that the game plays better with a controller that's NOT made to play Wii games than the Wii controller itself
.
I've only played it because there are a lot of crazy Wii freakz0rz in the Games Club and they had two projectors set up with two Wii's, which is where I got to play the game
.
I probably would not have touched the game if it wasn't for the fact that it supported the GameCube controller (which is what I started with--but I kept losing with that controller, so I tried the Wii Classic Controller, and I started pwning! I won 3 times in a row with Falco-Mario-Mario
D!).
Mario is so pwnz0r in that game

I've been having to use the retro controller and it's horrible.. I just wish I could find my Gamecube controller, I can't even play Gamecube games without it.. I also kept getting my ass handed to me by Wonsauto in every single match because of not having it, lol..

.
Too bad I CANNOT get my Wii online. Fuggin' piece of ****. I might try it again, since the Firmware got upgraded after I got Mario Galaxy. Oh wait, I don't have the game, maybe I can rent it out from mah library if they have it there

CoD4? Bleh. Lamest game ever. Who the hell doesn't add Split-screen LAN features? That's totally stupid.
They name the option "LAN Party", yet it's ONE PLAYER PER CONSOLE/TV. WTF?!
Anywho... Back to Super Smash Bros. Brawl talk, yeh

Snake, when properly played, is literally one of the best characters out there. The problem is hes a lot more complex, and has a metagame that goes well beyond the easy-to-use noob characters like pit and metaknight. Thats why all these people are coming back after playing the game for 5 minutes and going omg he suxors! \"Getting\" how Snake works make the game suddenly feel like you\'re playing chess while the rest of the fools are stuck playing checkers

Slingblade, eh?
Sounds all too familiar.

So far I am not loving this game. I really want to but it just hasn't clicked yet. Going to keep pushing through the Subspace Emissary to try to get the hang of it and hope that it grows on me. (BTW - I have tried multiplayer and it is fun, but a little too random for me)
p.s. Welcome back Slingblade---if only for a moment.

Well, it's more of a Melee 1.5 in terms of game play, so if you liked Melee, you should like this--otherwise you might be a ticked off. Remember: It's a party game, not a fighting game; things aren't supposed to be balanced, things are supposed to be rigged and random

The only reason I don't care for it is because I am having to use the POS controller from hell A.K.A. the retro controller. At least until I find my Gamevube one or buy a new one.
I'm hoping it will solve all of my problems, but if it doesn't, it will have at least solved the biggest one.

You're just a n00b. Everyone knows the Classic Controller is by far the best pwnage pwnz0r über w00tz0r controller of the decade, and it's DA BEST for playing Smash
