This is very odd. Why would one version be less expensive than the other?
http://kotaku.com/371719/ps3-gtaiv-m...aiv-in-britain
This isn't the first time this has happened, but it's certainly becoming a worrying trend: many British retailers are already pricing the PS3 version of GTAIV higher than the 360 version, despite Rockstar not having yet announced an official rrp. WH Smiths will be selling the PS3 version for £45 and the 360 version for £40, while mega-retailers GAME and GameStation have said they also expect the PS3 version to sell for more. So PS3 owners pay more for the game, while 360 owners get the promise of DLC and free MS points upon pre-order? Oh dear.

GTA IV 360 version less expensive than PS3 version in UK

From what I see everytime I walk into a high street retailer the PS3 games are more expensive than the 360 ones.
I'm surprised Sony hasn't made an effort this time round to actively lower their prices. I mean this is THE multiplatform title this year.

The prices for the two versions are identical on gameplay @ £40 each. I've already ordered the 360 version.

I cannot believe that they're doing this to the Ps3 owners again. It's ridiculous.

Wow WHSmiths, who buys games from WHSmiths. most WHSmiths i know stock more paper clips than games.
Tesco £37.97 for both consoles,
PC world £37.99 for both consoles,
Amazon £34.99 for both consoles,
Woolworths £39.99 for both console.
Game is still showing £39.99 for both consoles,
Gamestation is also still showing £39.99 for both consoles.
People really need to stay away from the most expensive retailer and start shopping around.R.I.P PS3Forums, you were a becon of light on the sea of fanboys brand name wang rubbing.

£35.99 for both copies on Amazon.co.uk
Most people here will be buying online anyways so it wont affect them but it will add that further edge to someone buying a console for GTAIV on the high street.

Perhaps the PS3 version is better? Rockstar know how to code Playstation, and GTAIV is and always will be a Playstation title first and foremost.
Having both a 360 and a PS3, i'm going for the PS3 version, as althogh the 360 has confirmed DLC for it, everything else points to PS3 being the better buy (and I suspect some DLC will arrive for PS3 as well eventually).

Thats funny. Its always like this for most games in UK,EU and asia. One reason is that the stores buy the games in bulk for the 360 , since they sell more and hence they get discounts. In asia, Sony sells the games for more than the 360 does to the dealers. So 360 games are cheaper.
"everything else points to PS3 being the better buy " Thats funny too. Having controller preference is one thing. Having a console preference is one thing but how in your infinite wisdom can you say that PS3 version of GTA is better? The 360 version had exclusive DLC and most of the Multiplatform games tend to be better on the 360.
Maybe i should change my signature to -
Which system has the better games : 90+ & exclusive
360-6
Wii-4
PS3-0

Clearly he was replying to Silar's signature!
I'm interested as to why Silar thinks that GTA will be "a better buy" on PS3? Rockstar themselves have said it looks more vibrant on 360 and of course there is the extra episodes that will come along the line later in the year.
Also am interested to hear how "Rockstar know how to code Playstation" will help them with the PS3, does the PS3 share similar tech with previous playstation versions, does the cell share similar code sets with previous CPUs'??
In addition it would be interesting to hear how "GTA is and always will be a playstion brand" if that is so how come the episodic content is Xbox 360 exclusive?
He raises some interesting points but does not provide any explanation to his assertions!

it costs retailers more for the ps3 version so they sell it for more to make equal profits from the ps3 and 360 version. blu ray is more expensive then dvd. some retailers can sell both for 40 or some may choose to sell the 360 for less as they can aford to
-

It shouldn't cost any more and even if it did it doesn't cost an extra £5 to make BR discs, it's about an extra $1 US at the moment.
This is more a case of retailers just grabbing some extra cash while they can, they know the Ps3 crowd has a little more cash than the rest so they can get away with it.

Of course when you think about it you wonder why its not more seeing as Blu-Ray discs are more expensive than you old DVD disc.

BR Discs can't cost that much extra. It's the same for all games though, and it's getting pretty f**king stupid.

Well, I considered that, except even Rockstar has confirmed that the two versions look and play exactly the same.
BTW, coding for the PS2 is totally different from coding for the PS3 so past development has no bearing here.
And no, there is no announced or known DLC for the PS3.

Eh? You can't be serious? You do know that manufacturing games on Bluray discs is not that much more expensive than on DVDs. Sure Bluray discs cost quite a lot more than DVDs if YOU buy one from a store, but for publishers of movies & games, the cost is a lot less. Let's just assume that the publisher pays 10 cents for a DVD, they might only pay, like, 12 cents for a Bluray. Sure it's more, but in the end it doesn't warrant the higher price that the stores make you pay for the PS3 versions of games. And that's what it is. The STORES themselves price the PS3 versions higher. At least if Capcom is to be believed, they had nothing to do with DMC4's higher pricing on PS3 in the UK, that's probably the case with GTAIV too.
