Coin stuck in PS3 slot loading drive? Don't Panic!

    Public Service Anouncement

I few months ago my 2 year old decided to feed a few coins to my ps3. Most were stuck near the entrance in the dirt catcher, but one of them he pushed all the way in. It seemed very difficult to get out without killing the warranty so I left it in. It continued to work fine (except I can't use my ps3 vertically) until yesterday. Apparently the coin inside had shifted at one point and when I went to play a Bluray from netflix I heard some bad noises and quickly removed the disc. On the disc there was a wide circular scratch. (Disc is screwed)

I figured enough of this crap. I'm going to get it out even if I void the warranty, I don't want to risk destroying another disc. So I tried a needle nose pliers, knife blade, playing cards and tweezers. None of it worked. So I decided to just face it drive side down and give it a few good *strong* whacks. Low and behold it did the trick, I could see a penny partially sticking out of the dirt catcher. I was then able to fish it out with the needle nose pliers.

PS3 now works perfectly fine. This works well for US coins because they are non magnetic. If your country has magnetic coins it will probably be much harder to do. I've heard a story about an English bloke whose coin got stuck on a magnectic part of the drive loader.

Nice. Congrats for getting it out man. This is another (good) story of a PS3 taking a beating and still ticking.

Good thing that blu-ray was only a netflix blu-ray and not one you bought.

Who has magnetic coins? lol. I can confirm you can stuff your PS3's with Aussie dollars and their not magnetic.

Wow you had coins in the drive while playing games and movies? I'm surprised it even worked at all! I would have thought they would have at least scratched the laser or gotten in the way of the discs. The PS3 and Blu-Ray discs seem like tanks when it comes to physical damage and reliability!

Crazy crazy stuff it reminds me of them TV's that operate on coins lol.

Look on the brightside I nearly burnt down my parents entire house today from a cig...I looked we had a table 10 mins later and it's gone luckily the wind wasn't up and didn't burn anything else....just imagine trying to explain that I burnt down your house from a cig.

That story is a prime example on how I hate little kids.

Good luck man, that would of sucked if it broke your PS3 or something.

im suprised my kids have not found a way to get to my ps3 yet, i have goin threw a few cdroms, i lost a couple numbers on my laptop one of the many times they have taken all the keys off, 3 dvd players, 2 or 3 printers, and the list goes on, and on. but now they are old enough where the 4 year old puts a cd in, clicks the icom and goes to town, that and they have the snes which they both blow in the games when they dont work, fast learners

I keep my ps3 well out of reaching range of my almost 2 yr old daughter lol.

Wish i could say the same about my tv in my entertainment stand . I will definately need to get a wall mounted tv as my next electronics purchase.

I hope he doesn't jam a 360 game in there! If he does, it's a sign from the devil!
