Has any actually tried to sync 7 controllers to the PS3 yet? Or for that matter, has any tried more than 4? I know the PS3 can handle up to 7 bluetooth devices, and since the lights on the controllers only go up to '4' I was wondering what do the lights do once you exceed that and if you can still control the XMB with the 5th, 6th or 7th controller...I know there aren't any games that will use that many (or probably ever will be), it is just mainly a curiosity question.

I have done it. I only have 4 controllers but each one of my rock band instruments acts as a controller. With them plugged in I have seen the 1 and 4 lit up on a controller to deignate it controller 5.

Yeah. I've often wondered if the 7 limit is because in order to sync 8 controllers you'd need to light up 4, 3, and 1. :P
Also, when it shows the led-representation of the controller number on the screen, if you're using the BD remote, you can see 4 and 3 lit up because the BD remote is always controller number 7.

I think it is because a master bluetooth device (the Playstation 3) can only connect up to 7 devices at once:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetoo...and_connection
A master Bluetooth device can communicate with up to seven devices. This network group of up to eight devices is called a piconet.
A piconet is an ad-hoc computer network, using Bluetooth technology protocols to allow one master device to interconnect with up to seven active devices. Up to 255 further devices can be inactive, or parked, which the master device can bring into active status at any time.
At any given time, data can be transferred between the master and one other device, however, the devices can switch roles and the slave can become the master at any time. The master switches rapidly from one device to another in a round-robin fashion. (Simultaneous transmission from the master to multiple other devices is possible, but not used much.)

Imagine playing a game with more than 7 players. That would be hectic and it would sure be fun. What games could utilize that besides sports games without having tiny splitscreens?

I don't think you can connect 7 bluetooth controllers.
It's only 4 and then the rest, you need to hook them up through the USB.

If you hold the PS button then go to controller settings and you can set it as 5, 6 or 7...then you will see the lights light up

I was just joking about the 3 leds lighting up thing. I hadn't bothered finding out the real reason for it, though. So thanks for the clarification.

That would leave the 40gb folks with only 6 capable without a USB hub. It's 7 through BT.

Ok hmm, interesting. Well, I wasn't 100% sure because I never tried it lol but I remember hearing about it a long time ago that it was possible through USB only...I guess those were speculations as well or maybe the design changed.

I have done 6 controllers at once on the ps3. I played it with Nba Nk7 3 on 3 with friends. It wasn't chaotic at all. I had too much fun and wish to do it again (made game winning buzzer shot). Problem is, it's hard to get that many people over to play a game.
Note: Forgot to add that all was wireless. NO USB required!!!

Along the same lines, can I default my one controller to set to USB 1 every time. Some games require it be set on 1 but I can't change it intil intro finished (COD4 example)

what about if you have seven controllers with a mic? this would mean you would have to have only 6 controllers to use the mic right? this is my logic but if true that sucks if you have four players and only three of them could use a mic
