I just got done watching Neon Genesis Evangelion and the movie End of Evangelion.

Can someone tell me what the hell did I just watched and why is this series considered a masterpiece?
    Seriously my brain is scrambled

It's considered a masterpiece by "some" because of the psychological parts of it.

It can be confusing and hard to understand. "Rebirth" or something like that is pretty good too. It shows extra stuff that was absent from the 26 episodes.

I love Evangelion and plan on getting the remastered and remake version of it.

I understood and liked some of those parts but they left too many questions unanswered and the 26 episode was just a mess.

EDIT: I had to read extra interpretation of the ending and such to finally understand some of it. I think its safe to say it was not my kind of anime

just watched .hack//sign. It was a bit odd at times, but overall i liked it. Had good characters IMO and kept me interested. havn't seen any of the other .hack stuff, but its a pretty good series if you want something character driven and not too action-y. Tsukasa was a major twat at the beginning, but i forgave him by the end haha.

That being said, i'm looking for a shortish series to watch. 15-40 episodes total. Nothing too cutesy, but it dosen't have to be action packed either. I'm actually in the mood for something thought provoking...hook me up with your suggestions! I want something that tells a story, or that is character driven. I'm not opposed to an action or fighter thing, i just want something with more depth.

I'm looking for something aswell. I just finished the Black Butler series and I thought is was fun while it lasted. The Specials and OVA seemed boring so I skipped those.

For those who have watched it, how is Soul Eater?

Have you seen Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood?

I haven't seen it myself, but some members said it was better than the original. The original is very good, so that's saying a LOT.

I'm still finishing up Full Metal Alchemist at the moment.

    Elfen Lied is cut-you-into-pieces driven.

Elfen Lied is legendary. Right up there with the likes of Deathnote, Code Geass, FMA:B etc

just watched the first few eps. of high school of the dead. Despite the constant big boob jokes, i've enjoyed it so far. pretty gory. Not what i really wanted at this moment but it'll tide me over until i can find something with a more robust storyline.

@black wolf: I think the first 1/3 or so of FMA: B is pretty much the same as the original FMA but the art style is much better. Then it starts changing up and it is monumentally better. You'll be blown away at the quality difference. The characters, story everything is way better.

ADDENDUM: Ok after watching a few more episodes just now i can say there are waaaay to many boob jokes. I get it, men like to wank it...but jesus, its kinda crazy how over the top they are with the sexual connotations in this series. Now...it has detracted my interest by any means just be warned its gory and pretty hyper sexualized.

I strongly disagree with Elfen Lied being legendary. Apart from the gore, it was horrible. The story telling should have been much better.

Or maybe it is good, and it's just not my type of anime.

I guess we have different tastes I don't even like gore, It was the story and the characters that did it for me. Elfen Lied is in my top 5

just started watching Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit. Its great so far. The story is pretty interesting, the environments are lush and colorful, teh characters are very likable, and the fight scenes are animated beautifully. Recommend this one if your looking for a shortish series.

That being said, i'm looking for a really robust fantasy world anime. I know there are a ton of series classified as "fantasy" but they aren't offering what i'm looking for. Usually fantasy is just "not earth" or "not japan" but they don't really have a fantasy world. its earth by another name. What i'm looking for is a really interesting fantasy setting. To me, the world itself in fantasy is just as important as the characters themselves. Why I always loved Harry Potter, the fantasy setting was really robust and interesting. I want a rich world thats different. I'm not a fan of future-y things. set in the past is good for me. Swords horses etc. etc.

You could give Escaflowne a shot. It's older, but hey, who knows? You might like it.

If you had said you were a fan of future type anime, I would have suggested Outlaw Star, Gundam Wing, and even Eureka 7.

IDK why, i just want the swords and rustic-ness more than lasers and robots. I kinda liked the Sacred Blacksmith, but they just didn't take it far enough. it had potential as a fantasy setting, but just never followed through with it.

One more mature and dark anime you can give a shot is "Claymore". It's very dark and rough so you've been warned.

Give Bosou Renkin a shot I think you'll like it. It was pretty good same mangaka who made Rurouni kenshin.

There is plenty to watch! i've been watching a bunch of stuff i said no to at first, just trying to broaden my horizons and i've loved it. Pick something odd, something you might not like and see where it goes. Its worked well for me so far.

I think btbam should give "Legend of the Legendary Heroes" a try. Highly recommend it and it may fit into the fantasy thing you want.
