    Blu-ray vs. Hd-Dvd

this thread is for your opinions of which format is better:

I made this thread to ask if anyone can show me the image quality
difference between the blu-ray and the hd-dvd.

or if there is any difference at all.

your opinions will affect my descision on which to buy

image quality is more dependant on the players not the media, so you're going to have to wait until they are released.

Yeah, the two disc formats can both put out 1080p, but the initial lineup of HD-DVD players only do 720p/1080i. Blu-Ray will support full 1080p support right out of the gate. However, with the storage capacity on HD-DVD the longer movies may require higher compression to fit, which cuts down on picture quality.

If you get a PS3, which it appears that you are based on your items, you'll get Blu-Ray anyway. The only variable is whether or not an HD-DVD player will become necessary later on in the case that Blu-Ray (God forbid!) doesn't win on the movie front.

Then perhaps you shouldn't call the thread "Blu-ray vs. Hd-Dvd"

But in all seriousness doesn't Blu-Ray have a slightly higher data transfer rate for movies? Wouldn't that equate to higher picture quality, even with more compression?

As far as i know the very first blu-ray player is only going to be capable of outputting 720p/1080i resolution just like the HD-DVD ones, later on the Pioneer Elite, which is a high profile player, will support 1080p among other extra features though the price varies.

How can anyone show anything when they're not even out in the market yet? Anything that we might have is what the creators claim to be the image quality.

And like people say... it's very dependant on the player and your TV. A CD won't sound too good if you have crappy speakers, now will it?

I have found a great blog which showcases new developments in the format war between Blu-ray and HD-DVD here:
    http://hd-dvd-vs-blu-ray.blogspot.com/
It seems to be pretty well informed.

    Hey Justin,

Go ahead and send me some fresh questions. I'll make sure the team gets it done this
time. Also we do have review discs that have gone out (2/2 embargo) but we can make
    sure you get one too.

Was it sent by DPD? I've had a missed parcel from them today, but I think they might be a European parcel delivery service.
